OT: How are your fantasy football seasons going?

Submitted by go16blue on

I thought we could check in on how our drafts have panned out since we are officially in the season now. Mine couldn't have gone better. Not only did I draft well, but I was able to trade some high risk-high reward players I drafted for better starters. Now my team is completely dominant.

QB: Drew Brees

RB: Chris Johnson

RB: Matt Forte

WR: Greg Jennings

WR: Calvin Johnson

WR: Santana Moss/Miles Austin

TE: Jason Witten

D/ST: Ravens

K: Stephen Gostkowski

This is in a 10 team league.

I by far have the best team in my league, thank god i have a few people who are in their first years of playing fantasy football.  Team is:

QB: J Freeman (weakspot)

RB: Chris Johnson, Forte, Bradshaw

WR:Megatron, Jennings, Kenny Britt, Brandon Marshall

TE: Vernon Davis, Gronkowski

D/ST: Eagles

K: Bryant

I see your Tom Brady and raise you a Wes Welker to compliment it.  Plus I had Brandon Marshall.

QB - Tom Brady

RB - Chris Johnson, Cedric Benson, Ahmad Bradshaw

WR - Welker, Marshall, Vincent Jackson, and some random

TE - Rob Gronkowski(I should have started him), Kellen Winslow

Defense/ST - Jets

K - Robbie Gould

My league uses defensive players too so I have

LB - James Farrior, Ray Lewis

DB - Charles Woodson (Homerism? Yes Indeed), Patrick Petersen, Donte Witner

Considering Jamal Charles is one of the top running backs in the game you have to start him every week. You don't draft a player with your first pick and not start him based on the match up. Few running back like Charles are lock for plenty of carries and considering his home run threat everytime he touches the pig skin he is a lock starter. Flex positions are where you are more likely to look into the opposing team.

I lost by less than a point (.66 of a point to be exact) in week 1.

I haven't yet decided whether to blame Nate Kaeding for shredding his knee on the opening kickoff of the SD/Minn game or Miami's lulz-inducing secondary for allowing Wes Welker to crabwalk into the endzone if he so desired.

Fantasy Football looks like lots of fun.  I might get into it next year.  Can anyone give me good advice on what types of league I should join/start if I am a newbie.

I would do something like a 10 team standard league with a snake style draft.  I like auction drafts but they definitely can make it harder to assemble a good team if your new, where at least in the snake style you are guaranteed your picks.  Also, leagues with more than ten teams really make it necessary for you to know a lot about football as the back-ups of back-ups can be fair game.

And as stated previously, a league in which your with some good friends is the best.  For proof, just watch a few episodes of The League to catch my point.

Would definitely recommend cutting it off at 8 teams, 10 max.  After that, talent starts to get thin... I'm in one with 14 teams and some weeks (especially the major bye weeks) you're trotting out third stringers just to fill your roster.  And while there is some fun to finding diamonds in the rough, it's not as exciting overall.

because there is no way I end up with this team in a standard draft with 10 teams:

QB:  Stafford, Freeman

WR:  Megatron, Andre Johnson, Jennings, Santana Moss, Devery Henderson

RB:  McFadden, Felix Jones, Hightower, Best

TE:  Owen Daniels, Pettigrew

K:  Josh Brown

DEF:  Green Bay

Just FYI, nobody really cares about the good or bad luck of your fantasy football team.  Just sayin.  It's similar to the people who complain about the bad beat in poker.

QB: Big Ben, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis, Frank Gore, Fred Jackson, Pierre Thomas

WR: Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Lloyd, Jordy Nelson, Plaxico Burress, Sidney Rice

TE: Vernon Davis

D/ST: Bears

K: David Akers

Even though I lost week 1 (Big Ben - 3 picks, 2 fumbles, several sacks for a whopping 6 points) I think my team is easily top 3 in my league

I'm in a 16 person league this year so the rosters are really deep, nobody has the perfect roster. We also have a option position instead of the WR/RB flex so everyone is putting QB's there. My game plan was to go RB and WR early and load up on QB's late to rotate throughout the season.

My team won it's first match by 8 points agianst someone with Vick, freeman, and gronkowski. Went 5/16 overall

My team:

QB - Sam Bradford

RB - Ray Rice (1st round pick at 4th)

RB - Mike Tolbert

WR - Larry Fitzgerald

WR - Marques Colston (out for at least a month now with a broken Clavicle)

WR - Mario Manningham

TE - Tony Gonzalez

OP - Tarvaris Jackson

K - Stephen Gostkowski

D/ST - Packers

Bench:

QB - Cam Newton

QB - Luke McCown

WR/RB - Dexter McCluster (Great bye week pick-up)

TE - Ed Dickson

WR - Devery Henderson (grabbed off waivers to replace Colston until he's back)

WR - Titus Young

RB - Maurice Morris

D/ST - Titans, for the packers 8th week bye (titans v indy)

My QB choices really suck but having 4 lets me pick and choose better weekly match-ups. It's not too bad for a 16 person league. Going to be a touch week for my Qb's though as they all play top 5 D's

I am doing terrible and all my *other* picks that I would have taken if on the board have also been doing terrible....I've never been in this position before and in a 14 team league which means absolutely no help in terms of FA.

Your Thoughts on my team?

12 Team:

QB: Flacco, Fitzpatrick

RB: Deangelo Williams, Benson, Bush, Leshon Mccoy

WR: Fitzgerald, Boldin, Desean Jackson, Jordy Nelson

TE: Gates

DEF: Eagles

K: Feeley

Keeper league so my 7th round pick was Deangelo.

I would package some wide receivers for the best running back you can get. Considering Steven Jackson just got banged up and also is up there in years his stock is on the down swing. And Darren Sproles is part of the Saints backfield which is just about as bad as Michigan's backfield minus Toussaint.

QB: Mathew Stafford, Ben Roethlisberger

RB: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Peyton Hillis, Matt Forte, Law Firm

WR: Hakeem Kicks, Roddy White, Brandon Marshall, Kenny Britt, Julio Jones

TE: Jermichael Finley, Todd Heap

D/ST: Jets

K: Janikowski

Its a 8 team keeper league I got in on last year (McCoy my keeper).  The team I took over was shit but I had a solid draft this year.
