NHL Draft and UM recruits

Submitted by MGoAndy on
2009 UM recruits Chris Brown and Kevin Lynch both went in the second round of the draft. Brown to Phoenix - who loves taking UM players - and Lynch to Columbus. 2010 UM mega-recruit Mac Bennett went in the third round to Montreal.

mac bennett is a mega-recruit? i lose track of who is awesome in 2010...though it seems from the ravings about the class that a lot of them will be mega-recruits

I would call him a very good recruit, but not a "mega-recruit," yet. I think high first rounder when I think "mega." He's suppose to possess excellent skating and offensive abilities, but lacking in the defensive end. He certainly could develop into a mega-recruit, and I hope he continues with his plan to come to Michigan. I didn't see the interview with him the last poster mentions in which he says his parents are pushing him towards major junior (I find that interesting, if true). The mega-recruits for 2010 (as of now) are defenseman Jon Merrill and goaltender Jack Campbell. Forward Luke Moffatt at one time was considered a mega recruit (IIRC he was taken #2 *overall* in the WHL draft), though he struggled a bit with the U.S. NTDP U17 team this past season. Hopefully he can make some strides next season as he's suppose to be very talented. Bennett, Jacob Fallon (another skilled NTDP forward), and defenseman Kevin Clare (very solid NTDP defenseman) round out the class right now. There's a couple other recruits who are 2010/2011 options.

For those that are interested, I got a local news special of Bennett preparing to go to the draft on my blog, nothing special though.
