There was a time I thought he was a good sports writer (which may say more about the state of sports writing). He did write BO, far before Bacon regurgitated most of it. But along the way it did start seeming like a formula, where he repeated the same catch phrase over and over, etc. It was obvious he thought of himself as more than a sports writer; an artiste'. So he produced mediocre art, while lowering his sports writing to that level too.

He might have been having a bad day.  But I wouldn't be at all surprised if the reason he gave NoMoPincerBug's friend the silent treatment in the elevator was because while many people are big fans of what he does, he feels guilty about it.  Like he should be doing something more worthwhile with his talents.

I'm no psychologist..just shared a couple of beers with the man.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  He is still a wildly popular writer, and for those readers, to that audience, he's great.  He lifts their spirits.  It's been a while but I'm pretty sure I loved BO.  I'm sure Albom captured Bo's essence with world class sentimentality.  And after growing up riveted to the 10 Year War, as another poster so eloquently put it, my heart was probably fluttering like a smitten school girl.

I must say that if I really like the subject matter, I'm able to put aside my criticisms of a worn out template and just enjoy the content.  It's kind of like watching a movie with a predictable plot but you don't mind because you know the bad guy is about to get impaled...like Clancy's Patriot Games.

You love Bo.  The man, the coach, and incidentally the books about him, etc.  I came to Michigan a decade after he stopped coaching and I cried like a baby on a taxiing plane (landing in Detroit on my way to The Game) when I turned my phone back on and got a ton of texts saying he'd passed away.

Given the proper amount of access, thousands of people could write a great book about Glenn Schembechler.  Mitch Albom's dogshit writing can't produce anything like that on its own.

I am so glad I dont have to view every news article through a haze of bitter cynicism.  I am so glad I dont have to check with Brian before I form an opinion on something someone has thought written or said.  I am so glad I can appreciate a pretty turn of phraise without worrying if it is sufficiently stylish or groundbreaking to impress the cool kids.  I am so glad I dont have to have long obscure monologues just to justify routing for Michigan football.  You all must be so unhappy.  I feel sorry for you.

I pray that the world is not deprived of your keen insight, which apparently amounts to claiming that anyone who visits the same website that you visit regularly performs oral sex on the guy who runs said website.  Am I correct in my summation of your astute worldview?

Yeah, I really hope you don't wither away and die like Tom Hanks in Philadelphia.  That would make me sad.

And you just crossed it.  There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with what goes on between you and Brian behind closed doors.  It just clouds your judgement.  That is all.  You have nothing to be ashamed of.

However

There are people dying of aids right now, and its hardly a laughing matter.

In short...Dude you're an ass.

My main problem with Mitch Albom is that he has nothing to say anymore.

There is nothing unique, original, or authentic about his point of view. It's all contrived, formulaic bullshit. It's all been said. It's all been done.

Perhaps the most damning thing I can say about Albom, is that the only difference between he and Drew Sharp is the feeling you get upon having read one of their articles.
