College Football Opening Night - Open Thread

Submitted by jcgold on

Tonight's TV Matchups:

Murray St. at Louisville - 6:00 ET - ESPNU

UNLV at Wisconsin - 8:00 ET - ESPN

Miss St. at Memphis - 8:00 ET - FSN

Kentucky vs. WKU (at Nashville) - 9:15 ET - ESPNU

In addition, you'll find Wake at Cuse and a bunch of 1-A vs. 1-AA matchups on ESPN 3

It's good to be back to college football, even if the matchups are awful.

Holy shit, man!

Don't you have enough money to buy beer that doesn't taste like the piss from someone who's just consumed a case of cheap beer? That shit's awful. Just as bad as Miller LITE.

I once resorted to drinking 40 oz. PBRs due to a shortage of funds.  That was a shitty decision when I got up the next morning.  For some reason I get a hangover off of cheap beer but not quality beer.

The dirty bacon wrapped hot dog (sold every five feet as you leave the LA Coliseum by random illegal immigrants cooking on hibachi-like contraptions) is one of the USC traditions I have embraced wholeheartedly.

I add mayo (they will try to do this at the games but don't ever accept it because that mayo has been sitting on the hot grill after riding up from Guadalajara in some dude's truck for three days), mustard, and jalapenos (instead of the standard grilled bell pepper and onion).

I will be eating these, microwave burritos, cereal, and Eggos almost exclusively until the little lady returns.

Life is good.

Through much experimentation I've learned the proper move is to grill both the bacon and the hot dog individually until they are almost done, then wrap the dog for the big finish.

If any of those Iron Chef guys can equal that deliciousness sans pork they will have my eternal gratitude.

Wiscy will put up a fight against themselves.  Kind of a little new wrinkle to the Badger's formula, might see a "what the f#%k" or two in the first half.  They will pull away pretty quick though.  They scored <80 points last year in a conference game. 80!!!  Thems Kobe numbers.

It seems like every year Wisconsin has one of those shitty performance, down to the wire games (Iowa is kind of the same way) early in the non-conference season, no matter how good they end up at the end of the season.

Here's hoping it happens again tonight.

The games start at 8:00 as far as I am concerned.  I need me some football, but there is no less compelling of a watch than Louisville football.  The equivalent of Milwaukee Buck basketball.

I'm pumped, but just sayin, could the networks have given us a little better slate here?  At least the last five years I could count on S. Carolina v. a non-patsy team. If your gonna have an opening night might as well do something tasty.  Maybe even late night west coast tasty.

That being said, Wiscy v. UNLV is gonna seem like the Super Bowl to me when it comes on.
