This Week in Schadenfreude Predictions

Submitted by BornInAA on

Any nominations for a game of unfathomable sadness?

I personally believe Notre Dame is ripe for an upset - looking ahead to the Under the Lights. USF line is ND by 10, but I believe this shifty USF team can suprise and cover that spread.

BTW: Brian, is This Week in Schadenfreude returning for 2011?

BSU may be higher ranked, but people rank them grudgingly.  BCS conference teams still get irritated when losing to guys that play on blue turf, and the loser of that game will take a big hit to their hopes for the season.  BSU still has to prove that Moore can succeed without Pettis and Young, and with a new OC.  They will be good again, but the offense might take a little while to really click.

As a member of the georgia fanbase, I don't see us melting down with a loss to boise.  Most of us are expecting a really hard game, and going 6-7 last year doesn't give us the most confidence going forward.  Any wins this season will be nice.

With that sad, I do look forward to watching georgia destroy boise after getting home from the western game.

I predict Kirk Cousins will make an impassioned pre-game speech to his fellow "student"-athlete teammates regarding the importance of faith, morality, and leadership...and then throw a touchdown pass to the co-conspirator in an international computer theft ring.  Or the drunk who likes to assault people and get tased.  Not sure, my prediction on this particular point is admittedly hazy.

Oregon or LSU. Two unstable fanbases with excellent photoshop skills, and one gets a potential dream season derailed in week 1.

The first loss is always the worst.

If Oregon loses a close game to a Jarret Lee lead LSU, then LSU turns and drops their annual grudge match against a LA-Lafayette/Monroe/Tulane.  Then everything would explode.

You can't deny that would be awesome and have the maximum mayhem.

/has no soul after App State.

One I'd love to see is Minnesota over USC.  With Marqueis Gray going against a relatively young team that has struggled against mobile QBs and still doesn't have a bowl game to play for, who knows?

Is it just me or is this tempting fate to make a prediction about which fanbase will suffer the most schadenfruede? I mean it's not like we've had the best luck when it comes to opening games(admittedly two coaches ago, but still)

Notre Dame.  Florida teams, no matter who they are, usually have athletes.  Anytime you have  athletes anything can happen.

If ND goes down, and then get Denarded under the lights, then they face MSU...they could potentially be 0-3...the dome would melt.

But are we really ever in the position to play this game in week 1 of the season given the horror?  I would rather keep my mouth shut, at least until I see the product we are putting out this year.

I always like to pick against TSIO .... so I'm pulling real hard for the Zips!

[even though I know that any school with a mascot called the Zips deserves to never win a game....even when playing against TSIO]

Appalachian State at Virginia Tech

William and Mary at Virginia

Montana at Tennessee

William and Mary might actually be favored to beat Virginia if there were a line on that game-- it'd be close either way. I'd expect the FBS teams to win all three of these, but the FCS school could win any one of those with just a couple of breaks.

Baylor over TCU in the Texas Jesus Bowl.

I think TCU will get caught up in a fight against an experienced Baylor team, they won't expect it, and they'll suffer for their insolence.

It will be the biggest massacre in Waco's history.

It's about the only thing that gets me through Mondays.   Got to go with ND as the upset of the week -  USF is going to give them fits.  Oregon-LSU?  Nah, no shame in losing that one.  The Tears of Unfathomable Sadness are reserved for the contender who just had their season derailed by an FCS team.  Not that us Michigan fans know what that's like...uh
