Proactive Alumni Bar Location Advice

Submitted by Michigan Shirt on

As the season approaches, we start to see more and more "Where can I catch the game in (insert city here)" posts. This is meant as an informational posts to all new users out there who recently joined, as well as keeping (trying as I know this can be a lost cause sometimes) older members pleased.

For those that don't know an actual MGoBoard exists apart from the ticker on the right hand side, there is a very helpful Michigan bar locator thread. This thread can be found on the MGoBoard page or the mouseover on the tab above, that will help you find any bars that you might want to go to along with being able to ask for other locations. If you forget to look here and post on the board most people will be helpful, one or two will point you to the appropriate thread, and you will also get responses such as this everytime (similar to double posts).

Also, here is the link to the google maps page containing all (known) Michigan friendly bars.

I know this will be forgotten by next week, but maybe some people will remember. Also, these always got deleted really quickly last year with the response to just check the correct thread (from the Mods).

Ahhh! Why is Benny's Pizza set as a Michigan friendly bar on that Google Maps?  I bartend at Lucky's and they are our competitors in Marysville.  I don't work Saturday's, but if you want to grab a beer from a Michigan fan, come to Lucky's Friday nights.  I also may pick up a few game days on the OSU campus, but I doubt anyone will want to venture down that way for a beer.

- Signature's in Columbus (Gahanna) is also very Michigan friendly.  The owner's wife is a Michigan fan / may have graduated from M.

Mad River in Chicago has switched affiliation from us to State. Not sure why this happened as there are tons of State bars in the city, but I thought I'd pass this information along.

Sadly????   That bar is awful, period.  I'm not a fan of Duffy's but at least they play music and have a rowdy crowd.  Also, they don't call it "Man River" for nothing (always dude heavy, not a knock on the gay community).

Not to sound like a complainer, which is how I'm sure I'm coming off, but we need some new M bars in Chicago.  Particularly in Wicker Park, Bucktown, or Ukrainian Village.

Jack's on Southport is a new Michigan bar this year. And Moe's Cantina (at least the one in Wrigleyville) continues to be a Michigan bar as well. As for the West side, I hear that Can's is supposed to be a Michigan bar, but have not been there to verify.

Sad in the sense it switched affiliation. Honestly, I live across the street from Duffy's and really only enjoy the Sunday brunch (all you can eat and all you can drink mimosas for $20!). Neither Mad River or Duffy's strike my fancy - Rockit River North is more my scene.

However, I do agree this town needs more Michigan bars. Seems there's a State bar on every corner; I NEED MOAR VARIETY.

Matilda's on Sheffield and Barry is a Michigan bar, unofficially. The owner is a huge Michigan fan, and a great guy. The crowd is usually not overwhelmingly crowded, but is a great environment to watch the game. Thankfully, I have moved back to Ann Arbor, and you won't need to put up with me screaming and slamming the bar. BUT in summation. Matildas is a great place to watch a game for Chicago people. Not crazy like Duffy's but filled with good fans and good people.

My front porch on the SE side of Grand Rapids will be this years hotspot for WMU Grad Michigan fans, from now until I sell the place.  Come find me.  We will be rooting for the Wolverines on 9/3 with no regard for alma mater loyalty.   Bring beer.

Buffalo Billiards, the one on that official alumni assoc. list, is a great time. I go there for every game, but you must get there early to get a seat. A few thousand cram in there and it gets difficult to walk around. Hope to see and meet anyone in DC that happens to be reading this!
