The New Guys Comment Count

Brian

Tim and Tom's departure has caused major consternation on the message board, but maybe this will help: there are new people.

Ace Anbender

image

Ace is the victor of the duel for the recruiting ninja job. For the past few years he's been building The Wolverine Blog into a contender in the Michigan blogosphere; before that he was writing on a daily basis for The Ace of Sports. He spent a year in there interning for The Wolverine, as well.

Ace is taking over the recruiting portions of Tim and Tom's job. Obviously, it's going to take some time for him to get up to speed, as Tom's had years to build contacts. Weekly updates are not on the table in the immediate future. We'll build up to that. Ace is also planning on chipping in hockey and other coverage.

Ace identifies himself as "Ace."

Heiko Yang

Heiko's taking over the beat reporter aspects of Tim's job: he'll go to press conferences and media availabilities and be the MGoBlog representative in the press box. Heiko spent last year covering water polo and volleyball for the Daily; he's in the midst of getting an MD/PhD.

Heiko identifies himself as "Heiko."

The Mathlete

Known only by his masked alter-ego, you know the Mathlete from such posts as "Never Punt With Tebow" and "Depressing Charts About Michigan's Defense," for which I'll omit the link. He'll use his massive database of plays to post weekly interesting things.

------------------

I'm still around, of course, as is Misopogon. We are also planning on adding a couple intern sorts, one a photographer, the other an Ohio-based recruiting guy who will hit up some of the many Ohio high school games that will feature Michigan commits.

Heiko and Ace's official duties start Thursday. The Mathlete's already started. Wednesday is Tim's final rodeo on the site and Tom has already departed. Thanks to both for their efforts the past couple years.

Really excited about the Ace pick up. Should do a great job. Haven't seen much of Heiko's work but looking forward to that as well. Welcome both of you.

Wait, Tom is already gone?  I thought we'd at least get a teary-eyed "I've had a great time here, and thanks for the support" type of front page post.

I feel jilted.

Brian, you missed an awesome chance to turn this announcement into a hello post.

I would have given Heiko's claim that he is pursuing a PhD/MD while doing this job 5 FAKES out of 5.

Writing for Ace at TWB was a tremendous opportunity for me, and now that he's moved on, it's time for me to wish him the best. He's a great guy to work with and I know that you will appreciate his work as he excels here.

Good luck man!

(and you too Heiko!)

Did Tom post some sort of "goodbye" note to the MGoCommunity?  I never saw one.  If not, isn't that a bit strange??  Not to be a d-ck, but its pretty standard in the corporate world to say goodbye and thanks (even from people that are being laid off!).  In a way, we helped make TomVH what he is today - without any readers and interest, there's no job with ESPN, I presume.

If he did post one, please disregard my entire "rant."

I was really hoping for a goodbye post from Tom. I feel like a girl left the morning after while I was still sleeping and my watch is gone from the dresser.

Kidding aside, welcome to the site guys. I have confidence in Brian's decision. And thanks to Tom and Tim for literally bringing excitement and happiness into the mundane experience that is my daily life, if only for a few minutes at a time. Success and nothing less to you guys.

Tom and his amazing connections and timely updates will take time and effort to replace. There's already less snark in some of the thread responses from the new guys than most of Tim's posts, so we might be headed to an interactive etiquette upgrade there.  Congrats to the new guys, thanks for their dedication, and look forward to seeing their work.

Tim and Tom will be missed as their content was significant and top notch. That said, I think Ace is a great addition and the Mathlete is solid as well. I'm not familiar with Heiko, but look forward to his contributions.

Welcome aboard guys!

Au Revoir to Tim & Tom and welcome to the new guys.    Heiko - don't be shy bout posting about WP from time to time - I play on a Masters team & His Dudeness and others do as well, so keep us updated on UM's teams.

GO BLUE!

Happy trails to Tom and Tim... you were both excellent bloggers, and your writing talents will be missed. Best of luck in your future opportunities.

And of course, Ace, Heiko, and Mathlete: MgoWelcome!

I called out Ace Williams on twitter, nothing mean, just asking him why he seemed to be running a scam.

He responed by blocking me in twitter.  I may never recover.

Good luck to the new, legit Ace!

Congrats to the new guys but you have some big shoes to fill. Congrats to the Mathlete, I've always enjoyed your posts. Onward and upward!!

Leave it to the foremost Michigan blog to have one contributor who is an MD/PhD candidate and another who goes by the handle "Mathlete."  This merits five NERDs on a scale of five.  But yeah, we are a smart bunch.

Finally, Brian has someone who can equals his two computer engineering degrees, and we have a resident guru to discuss sports injuries.

Best of luck to the new people.
