Be Vewy, Vewy Quiet Comment Count

Brian

Okay:

  1. The bug where your username was randomly replaced by someone else's is fixed according to a few readers.
  2. I am aware that the site gets shoved down the page in IE 6 and am attempting to fix it; give me a week or so.
  3. I'm also trying to fix the flyout menus showing up under flash content.
  4. I know the tabs look weird for some, but it's been really hard to track down why because it's been intermittent.
  5. The recruiting board has been ported over. It now lives under "useful stuff" on the nav menu.
  6. I am not enthralled with everything yet but I wanted to get the site live so I could spend July working out kinks instead of August or September. If you have suggestions I am open to them.

Update: Forgot one bug in the queue: anonymous comments are apparently getting registered -- they bump up the comment count -- but not displayed.

ESPN Conversation has a great commenting system -- text-based, compact, and quickly scrollable -- look into this!

EDIT: Youtube also has a good commenting system.

EDIT2: Can you change the word "Save" to "Post"?  It confuses me with the other save button, which is for settings.

Any way you could have the post titles on the main page have the background like before, instead of the minor post information (By Brian, date, etc.) having the blue information? I just think it looks a little nicer that way.

I lost the "Be Vewy Vewy Quiet" post and couldn't get it back until I hit the "Back" button a few times. Even refresh couldn't bring back this post. Weird.

The only thing bugging me so far is that the Fanhouse links aren't on (yet?). Honestly the only time I'll go there is if a link in the sidebar catches my eye. Other than that, it's gravy.

I may be in the minority here but I liked having your FanHouse posts easily accessible. I like reading your stuff there but am not a big enough fan to visit the site regularly. Maybe it's around and I'm just missing it. I'm all disoriented with this new sight.

The photos seem to take up too much room. I would like to either see them go away entirely as they are unnecessary, or for them to shrink. Even so, I am very happy that there is now a login for commenting. Please, let this be the end of 'first!' 'first!' 'oh man, I thought I was first!'. That shiza is/was(?) infuriating.

Is anyone else unable to change the way the comments are displayed? I want to see the oldest comments first, but it seems to automatically change to the default of newest comment first.

I agree we need the AOL stuff back, Also could update the Michigan Blog roll with a few new Michigan Blogs. Maybe put the Diaries down the page a bit. Rather have the AOL Posts and Links up higher. Thanks!

Wow, if there are this many diary entries already, I can't imagine what September is gonna look like. Anyone care to wager an over/under on the number of new diaries after the first game?

Also, why does the spam filter think this comment is spam?

Brian - Try using firebug + the Web developer toolbar for Firefox, it is a lifesaver. Also, IE 6 is notorious for having display problems. The first thing to try is adjusting the margin, padding, and overflow.

Is anyone else unable to change the way the comments are displayed? I want to see the oldest comments first and see more than 10 comments at time, but it seems to automatically change to the default of newest comment first. maybe this will post this time for some reason it keeps coming up as spam - I hate capcha.

far so good. Looks like there are new and more varied ways to waste time on this site (MGoBoard, Diaries.. Whee!). Not sure if that is a good thing. I have been promising myself that I will address my MGoBlog addiction before I start work (and probably get fired soon after for spending all my time here). Looks like a lost cause :) Others have commented on this, but seriously, the comments take up way too much screen space. I find that I have to scroll constantly on my widescreen laptop monitor. Wouldn't just text comments do?

Is there going to be any sort of index for tags/labels like the right sidebar on the old site? There was nothing quite like clicking on "west virginia is a post-apocalyptic den of insanity" whenever I was bored.

I love this upgrade, most of all because now I don't have to worry about my work firewall blocking the .blogspot address and flagging me for fraud, waste and abuse. Woo undiscovered IPs!!

Nice job Brian! I also agree about the Fan House section, I liked reading what you wrote over there and it was easily accessible on the old site. All in time.

Michigan fan for over 30 years now living in Morgantown, West Virginia but originally from the dreaded state of ohio (sorry to say). So you can imagine the flak I take when I sport my Michigan hat and tee shirt. That's OK, I'll just enlist the help of my new buddy Brian at MGOBLOG and the rest of the Michigan nation. I've been following your site for over a year now and I love it! I'll read no other blog but yours. You are the bomb! Keep up the great work!

In Firefox 3, sometimes a page will load, then go away, with only an ad for some "think before you drive drunk" ad or something like that. It seems then to just stick there with no further content loading. If I click back and click stop at the right time I can prevent this from happening. Anyone else see this?

anytime i hit something i get sent to a page with just the yard barker ad. it is stuck in a continuous loading phase. i have to hit stop after every time i go to a new page. so annoying!
