OT: 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Fund Raiser

Submitted by exmtroj on

On a slow day, I figured this would be the best time to bring this up:

On September 9th at 7 p.m., I'm going to be running the GoRuck Challenge in New York City as part of the Tenth Anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and as a side cause I'm also trying to raise awareness of the Green Beret Foundation and hopefully collect at least $500 in donations for the foundation.

The Green Beret Foundation supports wounded/ill Special Forces operators and their families during their time of need.  Their mission statement can be found here.

The GoRuck Challenge is a 10-13 hour, 20-25 mile team challenge event conducted while wearing a backpack full of about 20 lbs of bricks, and led by former Special Forces community members.  I've done the challenge before, and it's a great time, but pretty tough.  I highly recommend doing one if you have the spare time. Their website is here.

By the way, after I complete this challenge on the morning of the 10th, I will immediately shower and hop a flight to Detroit to catch the Night Game in Ann Arbor.  Any MGoBloggers who donate to the cause, shoot me a line at [email protected] and I'll buy you a beer in AA after we kick Notre Dame's ass.

The link to my donation page is below.  Thanks for taking time to read this, and thank you in advance to anyone who donates.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.  Go Blue!

Inside job, huh? Amazing how 10 short years can bring out the cynics. Even if you think it was an inside job, why not show the smallest bit of appreciation to those who voluntarily put life and limb on the line so you have the freedom to make an asinine statement like that, sarcasm or not.

I would prefer to donate to the green beret foundation directly.  That way you avoid giving this first giving company either 7.5% or 10.8% of you donation before it even gets to the non-profit.

Also, looks like you just set up your account. Why not ask friends and family before reach out to your MGOFriends?

So besides me being a dick it's great you're doing this and I hope you reach your goal. I"ll also be at the ND game.
