Well Tigers take on the Twins tonight. Delmon Young starts in LF and bats 3rd (THANK GOD).
1. A. Jackson (CF)
2. R. Raburn (2B)
3. D. Young (LF)
4. M. Cabrera (1B)
5. V. Martinez (DH)
6. J. Peralta (SS)
7. M. Ordonez (RF)
8. A. Avila (C)
9. W. Betemit (3B)

its Raburn...why does his name constantly get misspelled?
August 15th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
Seriously, I could understand if he was still a rookie, but Raebern's been on the roster for a while now.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
Sorry guys, my mistake, fixed it for you.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
That's a pretty solid line-up. Throw Boesch in there in place of Ordonez and we'll be unstoppable.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
Jackson (CF), Boesch (RF), Young (LF), Cabrera (1B), Martinez (DH), Peralta (SS), Raburn (2B), Avila (C), Betemit (3B).
August 15th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
Switch Avila and Reyvurrn and I agree.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
when he obliges in making less errors on field. He was a sieve last week.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
for Brian Braeburn
August 15th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
I wish Jimmy Leyland would realize that he is in the middle of a divional race and simply put his best lineup on the field. I understand guys need a day off here or there, but the way he rests guys is absolutely infuriating.
This lineup = Central Champs:
1. Jackson
2. Boesch
3. Peralta
4. Cabby
5. Martinez
6. Young
7. Avila
8. Betemit
9. 2nd baseman
August 15th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
Perhaps Leyland is giving guys more rest this year to avoid the last-season collapses that have plagued this franchise lately.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
But what he needs to realize is that if we didnt lose all these dinky little games here and there because we throw santiago, raburn, mags, and dirks in the lineup to rest random players, we could be 10 games up by now. He rests players too much, end of story. One key example coming up is him giving Verlander one extra day of rest, meaning he wont pitch against Cleveland. ONE DAY. Come on...give the guy his normal rest and let him pitch against the team on our tail. We need that win. How about some urgency here?!
August 15th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
like you think Dirks has hurt the team when he's been in the lineup. Or as if Raburn hasn't been hot since the all-star game (as he is every year)
August 15th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
Do you honestly think we have a better chance at winning with a lineup that has Dirks, Raburn (who probably has an error a game), and santiago so Leyland can give people like Betemit a rest? We traded for Betemit yet Leyland has been resting him like crazy for Raburn, who is an AWFUL fielder. Look at other teams, Leyland rests players way more than other teams.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
that I started off talking about Dirks, then I should point out that whether he plays or not doesn't affect whether Betemit plays or not (considering that Dirks isn't an infielder. I should also point out that Betemit, like you say about Raburn, is also an awful defender.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:42 PM ^
Well, Both you are right, back to back errors by Betemit and Raburn... Let's move on.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
They both are bad defenders, and dirks can sometimes provide some sparks on offense. I would just prefer that Raburn stay out of the lineup.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
The Tigers had huge leads in 2006 and 2009 and blew them. The tradeoff of overplaying the regulars from April-August might be worse than the occasional loss here and there.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
team also had a wRC+ of 94, placing them as a 6 percent below average offensive team. In addition the pitchers had an FIP of 4.53, xFIP of 4.45, tERA of 4.67, and Siera of 4.38.
Compare these numbers with 2011 where the offense has a wRC+ of 103. The pitchers have an FIP of 3.94, xFIP of 4.06, tERA of 4.19, and Siera of 3.88.
It seems completely likely that this team is much better than the 2009 version and that in 2009 the Tigers were winning more games than their true ability should have allowed for.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
Look at the orioles series. Anytime we win the first 2 of a series, Leyland rests players. Betemit seemingly automatically comes out of the lineup. Why? Why not just play with the lineup that won the first 2 and sweep the series?
August 15th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
The Tigers lost that game by three runs. I don't know that you can assume they'd have won with all the regulars playing.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
they were down by 7 in the 9th inning. They allowed 8 runs. Even with the regulars, you're not gonna normally win when you allow 8.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
They probably would have lost that game regardless due to the pitching/defense. It just frustrates me that every time we win the first 2 of a series, Leyland switches the lineup around. But I suppose I should just let the season play out before I harp on it anymore. Thanks for your perspectives guys.
August 16th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
He has rested guys like this every season he's been in Detroit. It has never avoided a late-season collapse.
There is no signs of the Tigers' second-half struggles being a result of physical fatigue. Just like in the 2006 World Series, they choke at the end of the rope.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
I would not be too upset if Young is where he currently is if he plays alright, but why do that to begin with? Young is batting over 300 since june with the twins in the 6 spot, so why not keep him in the 6 spot in Detroit? If he is a 6 hole batter on the twins, why is he a 3 spot batter with the division leadering Tigers? Plus, Peralta has proved himself on the Tigers. He hits for a little power and a high average, perfect for the third spot.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Yes, please tell me why Leyland insists on batting Peralta and Martinez 5 & 6. I like getting Dirks in here somewhere.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
Where would you want Dirks, Peralta, and Martinez to be?
August 15th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
I don't get it, they have 2 all-stars in Peralta and Avila, why don't they move atleast one of them infront of Cabrera?
August 15th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
it spaces out the lineup. the tigers can be streaky and if the big 3 bats (cabrera, vmart, perralta) and avila don't hit, they're jacked. this roster at least pushes the idea of talent throughout. Avila batting low provides enough of a chance at a rally bat to get around to Jackson
August 15th, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
Baseball god. It's his team, deal with it. We are lucky to be able to watch a player of this caliber in his prime.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
delmon young bomb
August 15th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
Great pick up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 15th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
WOW...so far so good with the trade. A HR for Delman's first at bat.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
BOOM. First at bat, homerun. Thats what I call a first impression
August 15th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Followed up by an 8-pitch walk from Cabby. I like it.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:40 PM ^
There it is. Raburn's error of the game.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^

Fire Leyland
August 15th, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
Fuck you raburn.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^
Ryan Rayburn should not be on a major league team.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
Falls over trying to turn a double play.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
Hmmm, what do you know? Poor defense costing Detroit runs.....
August 15th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
Thats why you put Martinez after Cabby
August 15th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
Good God Raburn is terrible.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:02 PM ^
I honest cannot remember a time he played without a dumb mistake.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
There you go, he is playing so poorly because he is on MGoBlog during the game.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
Surprise Surprise Raburn fucked up a double play
August 15th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
Jackson should be in the 9 hole. I know he looks like the ideal lead off hitter, but he does not get on base enough. Not even close. His runs scored numbers are brutal for a lead off man. Strike outs too much as well. Rooting for him though
August 15th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
Who else could we play as the leadoff? We dont have many guys built for it. Jackson does need to step it up big time though.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
Young flashing the leather.
August 15th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
wow, raburn made an out without screwing it up. good for him. maybe he will hit a 0.500 fielding percentage.
edit: I guess Raburn is browing mgoblog while he is sitting on the bench and marking all of the raburn posts trolling.
August 15th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
The crowd cheered when Raburn didn't mess up the play.

But I loved his face after even more, because he knew he totally deserved it.
