A few minor recruiting notes

Submitted by Gobluegr on
The newstribune had an article about Zach Banner and Joshua Garnett the included interviews with each of them. There were not any mind blowing revelations that came out of the interviews, but they do talk about what interests them most in schools (Michigan looks like they fit with Garnett's interests very well). Link: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/preps/2011/08/14/football-recruiting-upd… NOTE: The good stuff is about one minute in on both interviews. Sione Houma got a 2 star rating by rivals, he was previously unrated. Rivals still lists him as a running back, which seems odd. With Helmholdt being promoted to Midwest Recruiting Analyst - I don't see why people would choose Scout over Rivals.  Unless, of course, Helmholdt's replacement sucks (Drew Sharp I am looking at you).

He plays in a full house backfield and doesn't lead block so why should they consider him a FB?  Not to mention he is extremely small for a FB considering our walk on FB, Joey Kerridge, was 225ish at the same point in his HS career.

Brionte is a good 20+ pounds heavier than the FB who is going to be his lead blocker.  Wyatt Shallman who is a year younger and also being recruited as a tailback is 30+ pounds heavier.

Well these sites rate kids at the position they project to - there's a reason Pharoah Brown isn't a quarterback on these recruiting site even though he plays quarterback for his high school.  That's why I agree that they are a step behind by still listing him as a fullback

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette today:

Monday's subject is Fox Chapel's Adam Bisnowaty, the 6-6, 275-pound offenisve lineman from Fox Chapel. He's definitely one of the more colorful high school players I've talked with in a while. Good sense of humor, has insightful answers and interesting comments.

As for Bisnowaty's recruiting, he said he also plans to narrow his list of schools to five or six soon. The kid has gotten around this summer. He visited Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Florida and even went to Oregon. He's also been to Pitt and the Panthers will definitely be on his final list. Penn State will not.

"Penn State did offer me," Bisnowaty said. "But they said they were taking four linemen in this class and they have four. Now they might have two openings, but I'm not sure if they're still recruiting me or not. It's sort of a deal where they're out of it. It's a great school and a great program, but it's just not for me."

Haven't heard lately where Michigan is at with him, but at least he won't be going to happy valley.

I recently retweeted something from Scout's Bob Lichtenfels where he said Bisnowaty's gotten a whole host of written offers since the date they were allowed (August 1st) but Michigan was not one of them. Could be nothing, could be something, I don't know..

That makes sense. I would be shocked if we're recruiting anyone other than Jordan Diamond, and the elite guys on the west coast for OL. Diamond is in the bag once the staff decides to accept his commitment.

I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE JOSHUA GARNETT THE #1 GUARD IN THE COUNTRY WE HAVE A FEW TACKLE COMMITMENTS AND I THINK STACEY'S BEING GROOMED TO PLAY CENTER SO GARNETT WOULD TOP OR O-LINE OFF VERY NICELY

That is Banner talking about the responsibilities of being class President.  He is now my favorite recruit.

If his athleticism is all its made out to be, I would love to see a 6'9" 330lb beast on the hardwood for John Beilein.  Of course, watching him line up next to Kalis, Magnuson, Braden, Bars and Stacey would be priceless.  If M is able to pick up any of the trio of Garnett/Diamond/Banner (or, God forbid, two of the three!) there is no way the O-line haul of 2012, in addition to the front 7 of the D, doesn't lead to a national championship in 2014.  That will be D. Gardner's RS-Sr season with Shane backing him up. I wish I could time-travel...

Garnett is one impressive young man. He's ambitious in the classroom and a wrecking ball on the field. Sounds like a Michigan man to me!! I've wanted Diamond forever but this kid really fits our program. Wish we had two OL spots left.
