OT - CN Tower EdgeWalk

Submitted by TorontoBlue on

For all you thrillseekers, EdgeWalk just opened on the top of the observation deck of the CN Tower here in downtown Toronto.  For $175, you get a 90-minute experience which includes a 30-minute walk around the edge.  That's 106 stories high in the open air with no safety net.  My friend Mischa did it Monday for a birthday present to himself, here's the vid:

I have more than 100 logged jumps from military aircraft and probably another 100 unlogged and there's no way in hell that I would ever do that, much less pay for the experience. It's strange how jumping is somehow easier than standing on the edge.

to me, it doesn't seem that much different from doing a tail jump or standing at the door of a C-130. Or even a blackhawk jump, for that matter. You just sit on the edge and push off.

If you've ever jumped out the tail of a small aircraft . . . this seems almost identical to that. Except you jump instead of walk back inside

I'm not saying standing in the door, tailgate jumps or any other jump didn't scare the hell out of me every time (for some reason Blackhawk jumps were the least scary/most fun for me). I guess it's just that you're supposed to fall, you have a chute, a reserve and training which leads to trust in your equipment and the people you're jumping with.

If that made your toes curl, then this will surely get you worked up.  I was worked up for the rest of the day after I watched it.  This guy free-climbs (this means while not tied off) a 1768 foot transmission tower.

EDIT: Sorry, I don't know how to embed yet.

My hands are sweating after having watched it!  The narrator is the worst - he's explaining the process like some chef explains whipping up an appetizer, like its no big deal.  And that sound of thunder they worked into the narration, I about jumped out of my skin!  I hate you for posting this video.

Those guys that do this insane work had better make at least 5,000,000 times the amount of money I make sitting here on my a--.

I'm even worse with heights than I remember.  I almost vomited just looking at the video for two or three seconds and had to turn it off.

They'd have to pay me more than $175 to do that.  It's probably a relatively cheap thrill for people who are into that though.  Your friend is very brave.  I've rappelled before and the time from having your weight on your feet to putting your weight into the rope and harness was the scariest for me and I was only 130 feet in the air.  106 stories up is sick.

It looks so high and insane that it almost looks fake.  Now I understand why they say that people often die of cardiac arrest when falling from great heights before hitting the ground!  Holy sh-t.
