TomVH: Armani Reeves Will Include Michigan in his Top Three

Submitted by TomVH on

A few days ago Massachusetts DB Armani Reeves had reported that he was again talking with the Michigan coaches. After discussing Michigan's intentions with Brady Hoke, Greg Mattison, and Curt Mallory, Reeves decided that he would think about adding them to his top list, which already included Penn State and Notre Dame.

Tonight he decided that he would continue with Michigan in his recruitment plans.

I'm going to put [Michigan] in the top three. Just because I like them so much that I was willing to look into what they have to offer. Pretty much everything I said before that they have academics, the whole thing with Michigan. I haven't really thought about what's next or if I'll visit any time soon yet. I don't know when I'm going to make my final decision either, this kind of changes things a little bit.

It says a lot that not only were the coaches able to get him to consider them again, but that he has included them in the top three. It's probably a good indication of how serious he is about Michigan and also how serious he is about his recruitment. As he said he hasn't thought out the future yet, but I would imagine he'll use an official visit to see Ann Arbor one more time.

Would the staff take a commitment from Reeves at any time, or would they for sure need to know that Terry Richardson is out the door, taking visits, no longer committed?

Was looking at a few rankings today and was stunned when I saw this. Wayne Morgan's fallen from the #19 safety on Scout to #95. Can't recall a drop that bad before.

Everyone else had him as a corner.  He's struggled in 1-on-1 matchups at some camps, though, so maybe people aren't sure he can play corner anymore.  Would explain the drop.

One of the Rivals guys called Reeves the most impressive guy he's seen in the class (although he was quick to say he hadn't seen everyone--not sure if he's seen Darby, for example).

Do we still have a shot with Yuri Wright? And how had his stock been through camps and what not. He is my favorite just for his height advantage over the other corners.

with either the quantity of current CB's or the quality, and I'm not sure which is more concerning.

Both Talbott and Brown were rumored to be considering leaving at various points so maybe the staff is worried about attrition, particularly with Talbott's brother being done with football.  Or maybe they are considering switching someone to another position (i.e. Taylor to WR or FS)?

Otherwise it would seem like we have enough young cb's with: Avery, Brown, Talbott, Countess, Taylor, Hallowell, RIchardson, and Standifer.

i dont know what i'd do without TomVH. we've honestly got to be the most informed fanbase in terms of recruiting. we generally know what our big targets are thinking on a weekly basis. What other fanbase has that for free??

Thanks, Tom. It's great to be back in it with Reeves. Him, Standifer, and Richardson would be a pretty impressive CB class to add to our classes of OL, DL, and LB. Love it.

These last five commits are going to be great. First come first served, except for Dunn, who will have a spot up to the point he decides. I really like O'Neil, but I think he is overplaying his hand. He may be the the odd man out when all is said and done. I think the coaches are going to close the deal with the next four top guys that step up.

I think a lot of this has to do with Mattison.  Think about it.  The man coached one of the most fierce defenses in the NFL, and coached Ray Lewis.  I'm not even a Ravens fan by any stretch, but even though Lewis isn't in his prime, he's still a beast.  Mattison is a mastermind and has the credentials to prove it.  What young kid wouldn't want to play for a guy that had so much success in the NFL?  Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with coach Hoke as well.  However, I feel like a lot of these guys want to come play under the scheme Mattison is about to destroy the B1G with for many years to come!

I am only cautiously optimistic at this news. It's great to be in the top three for him but surely our cooling off on him for a bit has to stay in his mind with us at least a little and hurt us.

Hopefully Reeves will see how excellent this class is and want to be a part of that when he realizes how bright the future is and how much brighter he could make it

I'd love to see Reeve's commit to UM. He is a great athlete and could play CB or WR...or both. On that note: TomVH, has he said anything about the coaches possibly looking at him as a WR as well? I know he liked the idea of being able to play both.

Is a Saginaw guy who played for Toledo and then the NFL.  His son has committed to PSU.  I can see a strong gravitational pull in either direction (us and PSU).  Hopefully is is a big fan of our uniforms versus "black shoes, all blue, etc..."

I have a hard time believing that this has nothing to do with Terry. The Michigan coaches are obviously gonna pitch that it doesn't, but they have to cover their own asses in case of T-Rich's possible departure.
