TomVH: Bri'onte Dunn Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Ohio State commit Bri'onte Dunn was in Ann Arbor yesterday for the BBQ. I caught up with his father to talk about how it went and if it helped Michigan at all. Here's what he had to say.

He said it made him more comfortable and that he's liking [Michigan] more and more. Kyle Kalis and him talk to each other, too [Kalis was also at the BBQ]. The [Michigan] coaches told him that there's playing time there and that he could be the man.

As you can see by what he said this was a success for Michigan. It seems like they're chipping away and making more and more progress. With football starting up his dad doesn't think that he'll decide anything one way or the other any time soon. It's clear though that Michigan is doing an excellent job.

Thanks, Tom!  Seems like we are in a good position that we don't have a dire need at RB and can sit back and let him take his time to decide.  Would be a huge get though!

Can we?  What if Pipkens, O'Brien (or Day/Shittu), Diamond (or Banner/Garnett), Payton, and Darboh all want in?  (geez I can't believe we're down to 5 spots)

Unless we're going to put one of them on hold, there's no spot for Dunn.  I know, I know, he has a talent that you wait for - but don't all those others (or play a position of glaring need)?

Yes, yes, we're only taking 1 DT.  But no that can't be true.  But yes, it appears Godin may already be the other DT.

Good point, but I'm sure no one will be upset if Dunn's (hypothetical) spot gets taken by one of the players you mentioned.   It seems lie we're in a great position (once we get a WR and a DT (or 2) where the last three (or 2) spots can just be open to whichever of those very talented players want to come, regardless of position.  Won't kill us not to get a RB this year is the point, with so many already on the team, and a couple of good ones we're in early on for 2013.  We'd gladly take Dunn, but it seems like we can afford to wait it out, and if the 26 spots fill up, we're okay.  Diamond would be great too but also seems more like a luxury than a need at this point.

If Dunn was commited to say LSU or Florida State then I would say you can sit back an just see what happens. But hes commited to OSU an if hes as talented as they say he is I would rather steal him away from them so we dont have to face him in the future.

Just a heads up: TVH is actually admin, not just a user.

Also, 'Suckeyes' is unaccpetable.

Also, correcting people on the internet makes me feel cheap.

Great news Tom.  I hope Michigan tradition and coaching are the deciding factors and not playing time, but you can't blame a kid for wanting to get on the field early.  I hope Bri'onte  goes Blue and starts recruiting his cousin for 2013.

I would argue that with how Blue he is leaning, Thomas is probably doing the recruiting of Dunn, not the other way around.

Would be a huge get at what should be a position of need (depending on what happens this year..), and I would never say no to taking OSU's top 2 recruits. Beautiful

You've made it clear that the Dunns have been keeping things close to the heart and not really saying much regarding decommitting or their interest in Michigan. It's really indicative of the job the staff is doing that they seem to be getting more open about their interest in coming to UM.

Awesome news!!! I've been waiting for this update to hear how Bri'onte's visit went.  Great to hear that he had a good time and that he's getting more comfortable with Michigan.  Hopefully this eventually turns into a commitment for the Maize and Blue.

Well seeing his former commit mate and other OL and future QB and cousin lovin some AA...OSU will just say they didn't need him anyway, followed by death threats.

Diamond, Pipkins, Dunn, O'Brien, a WR to be named later would be a nice finish.

Does anyone else find it very revealing that his Dad is talking about a decision timetable and when he'll be deciding "one way or another" yet he is an OSU verbal?  Doesn't sound like a commit to me....

This is the update from the BBQ I was looking forward to the most.  I think I'm a little too caught up in the 'Victory for M/Loss for O' factor that involves Dunn.

OMG.  It's official.  Hoke is selling these kids on playing time.   What a rotten thing to do to a kid.

Wait.......isn't playing time what ever single kid who plays college football wants?

Nevermind.
