Neb-Iowa game to be called "The Heroes Game", submit your own for the rest

Submitted by iawolve on

How does Nebraska-Iowa become "The Heroes Game"? I guess Chilren of the Corn has a copyright. Since this seems so retarded and completely made up, I wonder if this tweet from CBS is not completely accurate http://twitter.com/#!/McMurphyCBS/statuses/96915912682250241.

If these guys can claim Heroes, I say it is time to reopen the naming for other trophy games in the conference. Not sure if you have any better ideas, but there has to be a few marketing majors on the board..

I'm a little partial towards the title "If you don't like either of these teams then you probably don't care or won't watch unless there is nothing else on TV game"

However, since the Big Ten is run by idiots when it comes to naming things, they might need more choices.

High Fructose Corn Syrup Trophy

Corndog Cup

Bib Overalls Trophy

Caterpillar/Massey-Ferguson Cup

Hawkeye-Husker Cup

Mortgaged Up the Ass and Pray for Rain Trophy

Cattle 'n' Corn Cup

I understand the marketing/branding aspects of college football.  Hey it's big business after all!

However, this news really makes me appreciate the fact that we are part of what's simply known as The Game.

I totally agree.  You can't just create a tradition without any soul.  Once coaches start stealing the opposing teams water jug and accusing the opposing fans of poisoning the water supply (you need to read the back-story for the Little Brown Jug if you never have) then you have the makings of a tradition.

Can the B1G please stop making up trophies and just let them happen naturally?

Little Brown Jug? Cool. Floyd of Rosedale? Weird, but that's why it's cool. Slab of Bacon? Awesome. Land Grant Trophy? KILL IT WITH FIRE.

I shudder to think what this thing is going to look like. And the worst part is that I won't be able to truly express my hatred for it, lest I appear to hate actual heroes, and therefore, America. The next thing I know, J Lehman is breaking down my door.

Sigh.

are getting out of hand and very VERY fruity.

But since we're in a naming thread, how about:

The Flatland Classic

High Steppe Football

Westward Ho!

Minnesota has by far the best set of trophies: the jug, Floyd of Rosedale and Paul Bunyan's Axe are all awesome (as was the Slab of Bacon). Even the Governor's Victory Bell is the best of the new age trophies.

Of course, they rarely get to hold them...
