M is in on at least couple WR's as good or better than Burbridge. And, given the recent past, M shouldn't hold spots for guys with academic issues, especially given all the other viable candidates.

Also, who the hell will MSU's next QB be? I don't think a kid would choose to play with some no-name QB over Devin/Shane.

Andrew Maxwell is MSU's next QB.  He was a 4*, Elite 11 QB in high school... so not exactly a no-name.  After that they have Connor Cook and Tyler O'Connor... neither was/is as highly regarded as Maxwell, but they both had pretty decent BCS offers.

Darboh and Payton. Both listed an inch taller than Burbridge according to Scout. Any of those 3 is fine by me! If that matters to anybody....

I'm glad that all his hard work to get his grades up paid off for him. I think a major factor in his decision was he knew that once he qualified, it would be easier for him to stay academically eligible at MSU instead of UM. Good luck AB, I'd hate to be you coming across the middle with our headhunters looking to lay you out

I don't see what the problem is with accepting a guy who has borderline grades as long as you keep recruiting other guys and make it clear that you are doing just that.  With Stanford off the board, we needed this guy.  Right now, our 2013 receiving corps consists of the following:

Jeremy Jackson

Rodriguez slot midgets

hypothetical true freshmen who have yet to commit

Jerald Robinson (?)

We'll be fine.  He seems like a solid player and will do well at State, but if his academics weren't looking good (a report from a couple days ago said, in short, he would not qualify)...then it's best for both parties to move on.  He can follow in the footsteps of other great MSU receivers like Andre Rison and Plaxico.  We'll pick up a couple of 4* guys as well and hopefully they don't ever shoot themselves or get their house burned down by Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez.

MSU has the same qualifications standards for athletes as we do.  A guy who doesn't qualify at UM won't qualify at MSU either, and it's not like they need receivers desperately and we don't.  If he commits to you and he doesn't qualify, then you have lost nothing, unless you turned away quality guys to make room for him.  It's not like you have to honor the commitment if he doesn't qualify.

You'd have to turn guys away to hold a spot for him, because signing day is before school is out. It's a calculated risk, one MSU can afford to take. And I'm not so sure the standards for the two schools are completely equal. By NCAA definition, yes. But while we take an occasional chance, we're a bit more risk adverse than most. It's like how we COULD take Juco players, but rarely do.

I think the concern isn't so much that he won't meet the minimum entrance requirements, as much as it is that he could fall below the minimum academic threshold once he's on campus.

The last thing Hoke wants to do is have a guy taking up a scholarship spot in the class if he's only going to spend one or two years on campus and then get kciked out of school for academic reasons.

Good luck to him. He may not qualigy from what I've read. He was the best WR on our board by some accounts. We need a playmaker or two in this class  but I would not miss out on Pimpkins or O'Brien or Wormley or Washington or Day or Shittu in order to take a 2nd tier WR (or a FB for that matter :) ). This game is won in the trenches and we need size up front on defense.

I figured he was going to end up at MSU. Given his purported talent, he would have been offered by us already if there weren't academic or other issues.

He has finished up his summer coursework to be in good academic standing. That is why this announcement has come at this time. It's not strange timing or any sort of conspiracy. The kid wants to play at MSU instead of UM. He finally had a committable offer when his grades came in.

Not a flame or a slight against UM. You guys have a great class, but you can't get them all.

Why not wait to see what the coaches have to say at the BBQ. I hope this doesn't turn out to be another Jonathon Hankins situation where we slow play a talented instate kid who plays a huge position of need and ends up playing as a freshman for a hated rival (and yes I realize Hankins issue was not grade related)

I think Madaris might drop at the BHBBQ.  I don't see him going to MSU and ND seems to have other guys they are waiting on.  Madaris and Burbridge seem interchangable to be and I'd be just as happy with Monte.

I really wanted Burbridge, but I thought he recently mentioned that UM was not recruiting him aggressively.  Maybe it was acedemic concerns, maybe it was something else the coaching staff didn't like.  I also wanted Lucien last year, but what do I know....

...allow me to reinterpret this news as if (1) Aaron had been an OSU target and (2) it was being reported on Bucknuts:

"Burn in Hell Burbitch!  Traitor!  I always knew that kid was no good, ever since five minutes ago, when he committed to another school.  Doesn't matter, I heard from my uncle's brother's roomate's best friend that Dorial Green Beckham is all Scarlet & Gray.   sCum blows! Tressel for AD!!!!!"

That is all

to Aaron Burbridge and congrats to MSU on keeping him in-state.

On the other hand, the season is long and if Michigan gets on a roll, Sparty tanks and Aaron gets his grades up you never know what might happen.

Love to have had him, a nice get for the Spartans (assuming he makes it to campus). But we really wanted him to keep the recruiting avalanche crushing MSU going. If AB changed his mind in time, we'd take him back. But recruiting is a numbers game, and we'll have our numbers. We just wanted to take one away from Sparty.
