Thats a really solid group. I'm not very surprosed that Richardson got bumped down a bit (I think he did, anyway. He was very high on one of the sites, at least), and its nice to see Funchess on there.

Edit:

Notable 5 Stars:

Kyle Kalis, Sheldon Day (will be at BBQ), Brionte Dunn (will also be at BBQ), Zach Banner (I believe were still recruiting him hard), and Jordan Diamond (might be at BBQ)

No offense to Strobel, Ringer, and Funchess, they are all terrific prospects and I am glad they are committed to Michigan, but if their rankings are 126, 206, and 224 respectively, their is no way that Bolden is 236.

got an OSU offer and Bolden, reportedly, wasn't even close.  Seems like Strobel gets a lot less hype than some of the others, but, in my estimation, he's one of the biggest commitments and potentially a 4-year starter at SDE.

Wow. That's great. M could be pulling 15 out of the top 300. Pretty hard to beat, except by Texas and Bama. Diamond seems to be heading steadily northward. I've gotta believe he's our final o-line guy, unless a five-star decides to jump the line.

The opening really hurt a bunch of players stock. A few of note:

Stanford dropped around 20 spots in WR rankings

Manguson dropped on scout and Espn

TR dropped a little bit

Shittu has really fallen and scout and Espn also

Obrien on the other hand seems to be helping his stock.

....247Sports was talking up O' Brien on Bill King's Sirius/XM show this morning, but it was in the context of an answer to an Iowa fan's question about potential Hawkeye commitments. He never mentioned Michigan or O'Brien's attendance at the BBQ this weekend, so I didn't take it to mean that Iowa had any special advantage.

Shurbutt also had nice things to say about Shane Morris based on his Gridiron Kings performance, but we knew that already from the post-event writeups.

I'm not quite sure what he was ranked before but he is now a 3 star and the #43 safety...i had read that he didn't perform well recently and this may be an indication

Also not in the top 300

Man I do not understand the huge discrepancies that exist between Scout and Rivals.

For example, isn't Magnuson the 30th player nationally to Rivals?  And he's 133 to Scout??

Granted, yes, they are 2 different services and do their own scouting, but, it seems like there'd be more consensus between the 2 sites.  A difference of 5-10....even 20....spots I could understand, but 100?  Sheesh.  At that point, how do you know which one to believe?

(Easy answer is, "Whichever one ranks our player higher."  But really....which ranking has more credibility?)

I don't know much about either site but I do know that Scout has a midwest analyst while Rivals does not so go with Scout for midwest guys and rivals in the other areas (I'm assuming that since Rivals doesn't focus on one area of the country, they focus more heavily in the others, i.e. south and the west).

There are 250,000 or so senior High school football players a year.  About 2500 get I-AA scholarships.  I think some slop in the ranking is to be expected (I'm not sure how you settle on a top 100 or even top 300 from a group of 250,000).

My approach is to pay special attention to the consensus top guys, and then look more at offer lists that rankings after that.

(I'm not sure how you settle on a top 100 or even top 300 from a group of 250,000).

I've wondered about their methodology as well. Presumably, they must have "guys on the ground" that feed them info, but sorting it all out has got to be a grind. For basketball, they've at least got the summer AAU circuit to compare the big names. Football seems to involve a lot more guesswork.

also have to take into account the fact that each individual scouting service may see the player perform at different times and places. Rivals could've seen one of Magnuson's better performances or Scout could've seen one of his worst (probably not worst, but you know what I mean).

May be I just have to be a little more patient, but I was under the impression that Ben Braden was thought to be moving up to a 4-star. I dont know for sure but do these new rankings mean that only the 300 were shuffled or were other moves either up or down seen as well?

I know TomVH, who I think is prooooobably in the know, suggested that the new 6'7'' 325lbs Braden is someone in line to move in the right direction.

Also a bit OT but does anyone have any info on any LIONS news as far signing any players??
