Big Ten Media Days: Call For Questions Comment Count

Like this, but in a suit. And at a podium. And with other Big Ten coaches and players as well. So basically not like this at all. Sorry.

Since yours truly will be at Big Ten Media Days on Thursday and Friday, time to crowdsource some questions. Those of Michigan players (Denard Robinson, Kevin Koger, and Mike Martin), and coach Brady Hoke are most likely to be asked, but if you have things for other players/coaches that are interesting enough, I may get a chance to ask them at Friday's roundtables.

So, if you have a pressing question (WHEN U SCORED TOUCHDOWN HOW U FEEL?), drop it in the comments here, and I'll ask some of the best ones. You have a couple days to give it your best shot.

Q: If you know something about the "Kellen Jones situation" could you kindly tell us instead of like knowing something, but like totally not telling us because that's fucking annoying as fuck. Thanks.

"Coach Hoke, what's the most important game of the year?"

RR always said the next game.  I wanna see if Hoke breaks with the Coach Speak and actually admits it is OSU.  I also wanna see him talk up the OSU game and piss off MSU fans who will exert predictable inferiority complex.

Do human beings have a definitive, core identity, or are our identities fluid and change with every new expierence?

So do you believe we are born with an innate sense of self, or self is formed through the perceptions of our senses? Or both? Or a lot from column A, a little from column B, or vice versa.  Or neither?  I need your help.  I am starting to think I'm really only a lie that I tell myself.

Short answer: both. Longer answer: we're designed with an innate need to form an identity. This identity is formed through genetics, life experience, interpersonal relationships/feedback, the filter that this feedback goes through, and the way we want to view ourselves (e.g., "fake it 'till you make it"). These systems interact with each other constantly in all sorts of ways.

You're not just a lie that you tell yourself, because at some level your brain notices discrepancies between who you want to be/pretend to be and who you really are (based on interpersonal feedback, your conscience, etc.). For example, if you wanted to be Mr Rogers, no matter how many times you told yourself "I'm Mr. Rogers" (unless you have psychosis), deep down you will know you're not Mr. Rogers.

Many theories of psychotherapy are based on the presumption that the discrepancy between who you are and who you want to be is at the heart of distress. To increase well-being, you can either change your behavior to reflect who you want to be or work on accepting yourself as you are (or mix-and-match based on specific characteristics and their importance to you). Hope that helps.

I'm a clinical psychologist and athletics liaison at JMU, working with college students and supervising doctoral students and post-docs. Technically I'm not a professor. I got bored with teaching/research (though my PhD program at Arizona State was designed to pump out Research I profs) and prefer counseling. I've taught a number of classes in the past, most recently sport psychology. I did my undergrad at UM, hence the mgoblog obsession.

"Coach Hoke, with respect to the defensive line, do you feel that with the scheme change they will be more aggressive and effective in both pass rush and run support? Is there any shift of intensity or focus based on the different systems that you have noticed? Secondly, how do you mean to address what many perceive as a tackling issue the past few seasons?"

I be interested to hear you ask Denard this question. After a season as the starting quarterback and now a summer leading off season workouts do you think your leadership role has changed? and if so how?

P.S. also what toothpaste brand do you use?

I wanna know if Denard ever practices his smile in the mirror and knows how magical it is.

And I'd really like to know some 2012 recruiting questions, but that's off-limits, right?

Denard, can you give a sense how you feel this year, as a second year starter, compared to last year at this time?

Coach Hoke, could you please point at His Dudeness and tell him you'll be cutting off HIS pinky toe if he doesn't STFU?

Or how about, "How much do you value winning and fielding a capable defensive team over the previous regime's preference of running up gaudy offensive numbers against bad opponents while struggling to score against decent ones and conceding touchdowns on 70 percent of opponents offensive possesions?"

At what point did you find that your ability to point was hall of fame material and is that how you get recruits to commit so quickly? That's all it would take for me to commit.

What is it like being the Hulk?

Do you do Yoga like Ed Norton?

Anything to say to the MSU hack who clipped you last year?

Can you bench press Denard a few times? Maybe a military press would look better for the camera.

Real Question:

What's it like playing when you're being talked about as one of the best draft picks at your position? How do you stay focused on the current season? (I believe he's projected top 2 rounds)

Can you also quote the owner of this blog and use the term "Sigourney Weaver's penis" in a question (for those who don't know, look for Hoke's Profile in Cronyism from 2007).
