Michigan Stadium Scoreboard UPDATE
Drove by this morning and noticed the screen is going up on the North scoreboard and they look HUGE! (apologies for the pic, took it with my phone)
Also, here is the link for the live feed:

Can't wait to see these things in action.
that no one cares about, but I wonder if they are in 16 by 9 format? It looks a touch more square than that to me.
The new video screens are supposed to be 47 feet by 85 feet. That's pretty close to the same ratio as 16 by 9.
I drove by this morning also and tried to take a pic, but I was asking for a car accident. But it looked like they will really stand out well as I was driving south on main street. Can't Wait!
I know what I'm doing when I wrap up this study session.
...Yes, my study sessions are puncuated my a few minutes of lurking on MGoBlog each hour.
mine too!
I wonder if they are designed to keep sound in like the boxes?
So beautiful. I can't wait to see them lighting up the stadium. There will probably be reflected brightness off of the boxes also...I can't wait to walk into the stadium in the fall!
Seeing the stadium lit up in December the night before the Chill was amazing. I was on a balcony at Hill and Oakland and it was almost like a living thing, especially since winter is so still.
a few of my friends got a house on Division, right next to Elbel Field. I spent a decent amount of time there chilling, playing FIFA 10, and in the summer, enjoying being practically the only people in the city of Ann Arbor. North Campus in particular is a ghost town in the summer time.
I'm planning to get a ticket for Purdue when they go on sale tomorrow. I'm also planning to get one for Ohio State, if they're still available at 8:30 AM.
My uncle graduated '78 and basically never left (well he went as far as Dearborn). Suffice it to say he has a few friends around. To get to the point, unless his friends come through with Nebraska tickets I'll be at Purdue.
And by still, I was going more for no leaves to blow around, there were no clouds that night, that sort of thing. Plus it was really late so no cars to speak of either.
I'm sure there will be plenty of MGoTailgating opportunities. Hopefully we'll meet in person at one of them.
I hope you guys meet at one of them too, I hope the sex is great!!!!!!! (NTTAWWT)
How did I know you were going to say that?
Were they working over the weekend? I drove by Friday evening and didn't notice the solid section.
I hope they go up quickly. It is hard to justify the amount of time I spend sitting at my desk watching the damned old scoreboard come down.
I can't see the picture or live feed...
Yeah, I tried to open the image in a new tab, and it just linked me too some Gmail link that I didn't have access to. The live feed doesn't seem to exist. Or at least I couldn't find it on MGoBlue.
For some reason, a link to the live feed isn't on the mgoblue.com multimedia page (which is where I used to be able to find it). But doesn't this direct link work for you? It does for me.
Here's a screen capture of the feed:
where it's clear someone needs to show Lewan how to wear a collared shirt - iron that up fella
Thanks for posting the still. Dumb question: what is the black square in the center? Wasn't sure if that was part of the new thing or still a virtual comparison to the last scoreboard
The black square is part of the new video screen. It's being put up in sections.
There goes the view of the skyline!
There is only The Stadium, and her proud defenders.
Than not seeing the monstrisity that is the Dennison Building.
I can't wait for this to be done so that the Big House will be even bigger. I am also looking forward to checking out google maps when all is said and done because you will probably be able to see the scoreboards from there, that is if those deadbeats update it.
Looking at your avatar, I sure hope that they use the proper block M on the back of the new boards (and use the dark blue from the facade of the luxury boxes for the background color). Or, better yet, it'd be perfect if they used the dark blue background, but instead of a block M...the art deco letters from the top of the old press box. They'd look tiny, but that's ok.
Has it been confirmed that the outside is going to be the block M again? Some folks kind of liked the outside of the pre-1998 scoreboards...
Also in regards to google maps, last time I checked, those haven't been updated since 2009.
I'm not aware of anything having been confirmed. I wouldn't mind a version of that old look you posted (maybe replacing the helmet with a block M (just not the stripped, "Michigan" M thing). Still think it'd be neat to have the old lettering appear on the new scoreboard:
Those letters are already mounted inside the concourse, aren't they?
Yes. West side, middle-ish sections (15-25 maybe).
Seems like a shame to hide the old signage inside of a concourse. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll return to a position of prominence at some point. Or, I'll be happy as well to see a simple block M...or, frankly, anything other than the "Michigan" line-M or a playlist for the day's Jock Jamz lineup. My best guess is something nice and clean to match the simple look of the skybox facade.
Brick with a gigantic block M in the center would be pretty epic. Make it happen DB!
Brick on the scoreboard? How would you pull that off?
I had the good fortune to be in Ann Arbor today to pick up some things for a fundraiser the Central Ohio AAUM is doing (I live in columbus, ugh) and drove by Michigan Stadium, and well, it sort of took my breath away. It was awesome, in the true sense of that word, meaning : Extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.
While I was not afraid of Michigan Stadium, it was, really, awesome.
Also, for all of you Wolverines living in exile, I stopped by MDen to pick up my "Hail" t-shirt and notice that they had a shirt that said "I Feel HoMe" with the M being a Block M (it's not on the website). I was really close to picking it up, but thought that others not residing in even Michigan might think it was cool.
Anyways, I digress. Thanks for the pics since the stadium cam was not working for most of last week.
Can't wait for 9/3 baby.
I love that shirt as well, but if I remember correctly its a bit on the pricy side so that was a bit of a deterrent.
I thought that shirt was based on an O.A.R. song. I went to a concert last year and they were selling them there.
They're Buckeyes.
I've been by the stadium several times with my camera and have taken a number of photos, but they just don't capture how freaking ginormous these signs are in person. UM fans who don't live close enough to see the progress in person are going to poop their pants when they show up for the first game.
I wish they would zoom the stadium camera out to show the scoreboards against the side boxes/suites.
Aside from the cup of coffee I basically bonged 2 seconds ago, this makes me all kinds of excited. I'm sick of waiting, I want the season to start now!
Strangely, in the top photo, they don't look that huge.
How far away is that?
Nevermind. All of a sudden, I can't copy and past pictures. Argh.
I like the rendering where they have the far away picture with the scoreboard blue with a Block M on it.
Can't wait to see it in action.
Too see them, countdown is on. (Not going to happen but..) Imagining an early completion for the BBQ, then hooking up NCAA '12 to the screens for the recruits, followed by several 'Hello...' posts
sounds possible. Maybe sans the NCAA '12 and Hello posts, but that could be a huge recruiting draw.
I'm obviously biased, but do that and any recruit would have to commit immediately. That is the coolest thing ever. I want to do that now.
Remember how bland and generic The Big House looked a mere 5 years ago. Has an almost classic, throwback look now. Absolutely beautiful job the University did in totally reinventing it.
Wondering if anyone in A2 can answer a question...
It seems that the aerial photos (which are really nice) show some differences from the North scoreboard webcam (seen here). The most recent aerial shots are from yesterday (and the webcam today looks the same as yesterday), so I'm wondering if the south scoreboard is being completed at the same time. Anyone know the answer?
[and, yes, I'm clearly bored and eager for the season to start]
