OT: NCAA 12 - Xbox Live: containing the edge

Submitted by natesezgoblue on

so im out about 10 games in online.  Am i the only one that finds it almost impossible to contain the edge?  Typically rushing yds are in the 250+ for each team.  Any suggestions or formations?  There use to plays to box your ends but I havent found any of those yet.

Yes I know you can slide the line but you typically get smoked faster if you guess wrong.

to play man coverage (I usually run a 4-3 cover 2 man) and press the corners and bring the safeties both close.   When the corners are pressed they usually don't give up their ground, which either allows me to get their with my safety, or they turn the play back in to the middle.   I also user control the safety, in case you didn't get that.

With this strategy, you have to make sure you are good at reading run/pass/PA so you don't get fooled.  The nice thing though is that people who just constantly run to the outside tend to not be very good at other aspects of offense, and once you take away the outside run they usually struggle to move the ball.

Just run cover 3 and spy a line backer if the guy likes to run with his qb. Always blitz manually and never blitz a safety. I typically run cover three the entire game and most people never catch onto it.

Safety blitzes NEVER work in this game...every single version of the game, they just don't work. The safeties ALWAYS run into the line and get nowhere. The corner blitzes are way more affective.

Sorry for the triple post, damn phone. I forgot to add that you should try moving your linebackers closer to los or further outside. That usually works for me.

Do they still have the 3-2-6 DE Contain?  That works for outside run plays and guys who like to play out of the shotgun and run the qb waaaaaaay to the outside.

NCAA 12 general question: What is the best way to use Denard?  I've had some success with the read option and the speed option of the edge, but it doesn't look like the standard Michigan playbook has much else in the way of designed QB runs that are any good. Do I have to make a custom book, or are there some other things in there I should be working on getting down?

Denard is very good in the PA roll-outs, and in the 5-receiver sets that pull the LB away for clear scrambles. He's a bit fragile in the game so i tend not to run him very much.

I'm two seasons in and have Vincent Smith in contention for the Heisman over Denard, but man, is Vincent ever fragile in the game. Every single game he goes out for a quarter or two with a minor injury.

JT Floyd is a beast too.

Simply use Pitt's playbook for the offense from last year, since Calvin McGee went there to be OC.  It's most of the stuff from last year...though I will say it's super hard to get that QB power (aka, The Denard Play) to work even remotely effectively in the game.  Maybe I'm using him wrong or spamming the turbo too quickly, however...

At least in the old game, you could put linebackers in contain when you played people who liked to cheeze with mobile QB's.  Also, you can make one of your safeties a spy.  I once held a guy playing as OSU to -25 yards this way in last year's game.

I haven't had any real issues against mobile qbs. My biggest problem is against a full house type set and they run off tackle. My guys can't seem to shed blocks or make tackles..

<br>Ha anyone found away to effectively throw the ball. It seems denards favorite receiver is tacopants.

If you step up in the pocket and step into your throw I've found the throw to be more effective and accurate.  It's a little touch of reality I find startlingly awesome to be honest.

As for containing the edge...I don't play online so I don't know if this would work, but in Dynasty on AA I typically use the 4-3 under (the over and regular sometimes to switch it up) and the "extra" man on the line either blitzes or plays a zone close; this tends to help with contain.  I usually control a DL (usually Roh) so that helps as well.

A defense that works for me is the Normal Nickle, click the stick to the right 6 times and you have a play that will send both LB's up the middle, leaving 5 O-line to block 6. It can be dangerous as your CBs are all alone with no backup and sometimes won't align correctly. Feast or famine, but if used correctly in small doses you can set the opponent in a 3rd and long.
