USA has had multiple chances to put one in the back. Shots haven't missed by much. Good defensive pressure has led to breakouts for Cheney/Wamback.  If USA continues to keep possesion I would expect this to go our way in the second half.

Much needed goal there. Force Japan to have to take some chances now instead of sticking back and trying to lull the USA to sleep and get a cheap one.

Japan hasn't had great touch out there all day. They've had some chances as well, but bad passes and touches have ultimately ruined alot of their great opportunities

Now for 15 mins NO more prevent D and trying to be cute with it....we live by attacking and we have to die by attacking. Dont give Japan another cheap one again.

Probably wasnt the best day for the U.S. backline to take a crap on the field in front of their goalie. Hell, I can live with the corner kick goal but that 1st goal was just plain sad.

It's time to get greatly younger on the backline. 30 and under should be the new rule because they got gassed.

Wow, heartbreaking.

Also, that reporter that just interviewed Abby Wambach is a total sack of shit.  Questions like, "How's it feel to get so close then let it slip away?" and "How is it possible to go up twice and still lose?"  WTF, are you serious??  Douchebag should be out of a job.

It's not the questions themselves as much as the way they were phrased.

There's a difference between asking questions and rubbing someone's face in it and kicking them while their down.

The way they were phrased the guy may as well have said, "Hey, you guys just shit the bed on those penalty kicks, how you feeling about that?"  And keep in mind this was mere minutes after it happened, while they were still on the field so this was all very fresh at this point.

I don't have an opinion on Peyton Manning, but LBJ is an ass-hat and i really don't care what he gets asked, or how.  Wambach, however, is a class act.  Many pro athletes won't even talk to the media after a heartbreaking loss in a championship game.  Wambach was gracious enough to give an interview.... right after the game, not in some press conference after an hour long delay where she and her teammates get a break in the locker room... and questions like that are what she gets in return?  Come on, that's ridiculous.  She and her teammates had just fought for 2 hours and those are the questions she gets??

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this if it were after a pro game, but this is our national team.  How about a little respect for those that represented us damn well on an international stage....not just with excellence on the field but with grace and charm as well.

trolling?

how about we lost the game by falling asleep immediately after each goal. japan responded 12 minutes after the first goal, 8 minutes after the second. everyone I was watching with was screaming at the tv as they just aimlessly kicked the ball around hoping to run the clock out, playing neither offense or defense.

pedal to the metal, and all that.

...and now we all collectively stop pretending we care about women's soccer... or, soccer in general.

Exactly. The whole "world cup mania" is such a media creation. This entire thread is one guy who couldn't play a real sport in high school having a conversation with himself in some pathetic attempt to make it look like anyone in this country cares about some glorified version of kick-a-can.
