I saw this on ebay today.  Im not sure what to think. Part of me thinks its a total abomination and part of me thinks because its for charity its ok.

I noticed only 10% of the total sale price goes to the Susan G Komen for the cure foundation.  Is this normal?   Bid starts at 749.99.

Ideally, proceeds from charity sales should mostly go to the foundation they support.  It's definitely a sketchy sign if only 10% of the proceeds actually go to support the stated cause, because 90 cents on the dollar supports the charity itself rather than the cause.

That's just my own personal opinion.  I don't know anything about this particular instance other than the numbers.

it's a gimmick. if you want to give money to a charity, you should generally look for 90% or more of donations to go to their actual programs and not administrative costs (mainly office space, executive salaries, mailing and other fundraising). personally i don't donate to any charities with more than 5% administrative costs. but this isn't a charity. this is somebody looking to make a profit, and giving a cut of the sale to a charity in order to get people to bid more and, just maybe, to do something nice. think of a supermarket giving a percentage of its sales for the day to local schools--10% is a pretty normal but decent number for that sort of thing.

I can't believe we actually had a discussion about helmet stickers.  Clearly this is the helmet the team should be wearing (including autographs).

The 2010 Football Team isn't exactly in the top 30, or even 50 Michigan Teams that I would want a signed helmet of.

Also, any pink team apparel is just appalling to me.  It brings to mind Jessica Simpson at Cowboys games (http://checkraise.com/rants2/archive3/PINK_PHOTO_2.jpg) and that annoying chick at games who has no idea what is going on, but insists that her boyfriend buy her another pink shirt because its 'SOOOOO CUTE'.   ....barf....    I think a traditional helmet with a Susan G. Koman for the cure Foundations sticker on it would be much more successful.

*Props to whoever posted the eBay auction pictures...congrats for only knowing who RichRod, Tate, Roundtree, and Hemingway were...where are the props to Tom Pom!

After the UM-Purdue game this past fall, in West Lafayette (obvi), my brother and I waited to congratulate the team as they were getting on the buses. Some players were held up to family, some fans (including a woman whom I remember had her little son take a picture with "Denard" which happened to be Je'Ron Stokes lol), and two dudes getting autographs on these pink helmets... Now, there were some kids getting autographs as well. These two dudes were older, and the players signed and told others that it was for charity...

10% is very sketchy.... WTF, 10%? Really?

PS: I've heard no news in WL regarding Michigan's snake oil on Russell Bellomy. Fans here have their heads stuck up basketball season's ass.

"In addition to raising millions of dollars a year for breast cancer research, fundraising giant Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a lesser-known mission that eats up donor funds: patrolling the waters for other charities and events around the country that use any variation of "for the cure" in their names.

So far, Komen has identified and filed legal trademark oppositions against more than a hundred of these Mom and Pop charities, including Kites for a Cure, Par for The Cure, Surfing for a Cure and Cupcakes for a Cure--and many of the organizations are too small and underfunded to hold their ground."

...who is a cancer survivor and she is not a big fan of Komen or the American Cancer Society.  She felt like they weren't necessarily interested in finding cures for cancer, but looking for profits for their organization.  She walked a walk I had never experienced, so I trusted her opinion over my limited experience.  Just a thought from a cancer survivor.

are just looking for a new way to sell their stuff faster.  They are also looking for an easier way to get all the players to sign their crap.

A lot of times you see the players sign stuff for little kids and fans and brush by these jokers.  They aren't difficult to spot.

Also, 10% to charity is garbage.  Keep a little for yourself to pay for the helmet, but it sure as hell didn't cost you $600.

to launch a line of "Pink Is Not A School/Team Color" shirts.  If you want to wear pink, then wear pink, but don't screw up established color schemes just to shoehorn causes into them.

Leonardo Da Vinci was the first person who designed and drew sketches of interior design of a flying machine with a helical rotor in 1493. The first attempts to build a chopper and powered flight were carried out in twentieth century, and efforts to design an aircraft were started. These aircrafts are museum objects now, and have attained the popularity and prestige of vintage aircraft.
