TomVH: Bri'onte Dunn Update

Submitted by TomVH on
If you read the Weekly update you know that Ohio RB Bri'onte Dunn might visit for the BBQ on the 31st. I spoke with someone I trust today about him and I believe that Bri'onte's situation is starting to change. By that I mean he has seen what decision Kyle Kalis made and it's making him think about what he's going to do. I had said previously that the two year bowl ban would be the key, but it's starting to look like that might not even be the main factor. Playing early and playing in bowl games is what he wants. I'm not saying he's decommitting, but I'm saying he's starting to think about everything a little differently than before. Again I'm on my phone so excuse the formatting.

To do the o$u or m$u thing since those guys are big into scUM or walverines. Check the FAQs.

<br>Also, FYI, do not use big blue referring to UM, they will find you and burn down your house.

Thanks for the info, I'll revisit the faq section. Been here for a decent amount of time, but maybe I missed that so-to-speak rule. I'd have been more apprecitive of this feedback of yours though had it been your first one to me on this topic. That would've come across as something better than--you know, classes or hypocritical.

Wow, that is both unexpected and amazing. Thanks, Tom. I know he doesn't want you to say, but it seems like this might be thanks to Kyle Kalis on the recruiting front.

Taking OSU's top two recruits? Yes, please.

He'd still want to take in Penn St. and other schools, right? Not just Michigan?

This was scaring me at first when talking about seeing Kalis' decision. I was thinking it would be bad news because of the bad reaction Kalis received. But I guess that's not the case

After reading the seething hate, ignorance, vitriol, and overall douche-baggery, I would think Dunn sees the Ohio fan base in a whole new light. Even if those fans aren't formally attached to the university in any way, who would want to endure that bile for four plus years. I know Herbstreit didn't want to put up with it anymore.

If I was that big of a recruit, and knew I had the clout for teams to "make room" for me at the signing deadline, I would consider intentionally flipping on the last day after seeing how the OSU fans have handled themselves lately.  It would be a dick move, but certainly an intelligent one from a competitive advantage standpoint.

I think doing something like that would just fuel their anger towards you, or whoever is flipping at the last moment, even more. Probably to the point where they would definitely take it a little bit more personal because you were committed so long. I think Kalis did the right thing and let them know early so they still have a chance to accept other kid's commitments and keep that spot filled. He will have the entire season to keep him focused and forget about what the OSU fanbase is saying about him. I would love to see how hard that kid is going to play knowing that fans from opposing teams are probably going to say stuff to him all game long about this...(I hope they wouldn't, but it is that "state down south"). Could give him some additional motivation, not that he really needs any.

I see this a lot so my comment isn't directed entirely at you, but it was your post that brought on this thought.

In many posts about our distain for all things OSU some posters seem to lump the entire state of Ohio (and all its inhabitants) into one giant group of cooler shitting maniacs. In the past I didn't really have much of a problem with that because I really didn't know anyone from Ohio so I figured I would give the benefit of the doubt to those of you that do.

Now, however, I have come to get a better idea of what people from Ohio are like and have come to the conclusion that not all are bad (having seen all the interviews from TVH with recruits and families). This kind of stereotyping isn't a good thing, especially considering we currently have a number of kids from Ohio on our team and a number of commits/targets in this recruiting class.

I guess my point is we know many of these kids read mgoblog and I have to think that when they see posters here lumping all of Ohio into one group using pretty harsh descriptors, some may take offense to that. I'm just thinking we might want to keep our anger/distain for OSU fans directed at them and not all of Ohio since a lot of these kids come from there.

I would upvote your comment if I had enough points.  I know many crazy, intense OSU fans in the area but they are also crazy, intense Browns, Bengals, Reds and Indians fans.  So, many Ohio residents are rational people, just very irrational sports fans.  Some of them let the craziness bleed over into their everyday life but I'm sure every fan base has that to a point.

That's all good news.  Seeing who will be blocking for him at UM must be a pretty good reason as well.  Hopefully Kalis can stay in his ear.

Also, it sounds like having Shaw be the starting RB this fall might help.  If Hopkins and Rawls get most of the carries it wouldn't bode well for a guy like Dunn.

Short-term (2012) you have a senior Denard and a veteran OL with possibly 4 returning starters.

After that, you have Gardner/Morris at QB and a 2012 class that, with Kalis, is looking pretty strong for OL.

Given the above and the unsettled RB situation at Michigan, it's hard to imagine a better spot for a RB that wants to contribute early and go to bowls.

That said, he's in a position to sit back and wait.  Michigan isn't close to taking another RB that we know of.

tosu getting sued, now Mr.Dunn seeing the light. Tell me how a guy is supposed to do anything for more than say, 15 minutes or so and not get a fix.
This is crazy! Why could we not have 30 spots available?!
Thanks Tom, we all jump when you post.

...especially the part about the bowl ban not being a huge issue.   I always gather it was almost the ONLY issue.  Kalis in Dunn's ear, perhaps?

CR509

it could be huge for us. If he can hang with our current commits and coaching staff in a family enviroment and feel the energy thats happening in A2 it may very well get him thinking hard about what it would be like to play here.

The bowl bam is still an issue, but what I meant by it not being the main issue is that other factors are creeping in his mind. Like I said he wants to play, that's one of them. So the concern about bowl bans is still there.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but do we really want kids that are only picking Michigan because the team they actually want to play for is falling apart? Just food for thought.

Yes. First, we need a RB. Second, who cares how we got him? I've been through plenty situations in my life where I did something I didn't really want to do, and it was amazing that I did. Hell, I didn't even want to go to UM out of high school. I wanted to go to State (yes, yes, it was a dark time in my life). But UM had the program that would Be the best for me, and it turns out it was probably the best decision of my young life.

Come on Romey, are we really going to be picky why they want to come here?  Chris Spielman wanted to go to Michigan, but his dad made him go to OSU.  Do you think the Buckeyes were ready to tell him no because of it?  It's not like we'd his last choice, if he came here because OSU was falling apart, he's still be picking us over every other team in the country that he could go to (which is a lot).

Think of it this way - If the hottest girl you knew decided to sleep with you because they guy she originally wanted to sleep with got herpes, you wouldn't kick her out of bed.
