Van Bergen article/quotes

I recently interviewed Van Bergen for the Muskegon Chronicle and the subsequent article was released today. Most of the quotes used in the article were relatively straightforward, but some of the quotes that I was unable to add were among the most interesting to me (paraphrased obv.):

He believes Cam Gordon is going to be a star and said the same about Courtney Avery.

He thinks Pryor's story would have been different if he had committed to U of M.

He doesn't care about OSU bending the rules in regards to them beating us seven straight years.

The Denard-to-transfer talk was way overblown. Denard loves the Michigan family and appreciates the tradition. Wants to leave his own legacy behind.

Hoke shoots straight with the players and his honesty with recruits is helping him.

Just thought I'd share these with you guys.

But not hooray for me being home in it for the summer. I need to remember never to come back unless I secure my own place first.

Looking forward to seeing RVB bust out this year like never before. I never met him, but he knew a lot of my friends who went to high school with him in Whitehall.

Love this RVB quote -

"In the past, it was more of us adjusting to what the opposition's offense was showing us," VanBergen said. "We're going to be less tactical and force our will instead."

Can't wait to see this team take the field.

That is EXACTLY what you want to hear from a defense. Most people consider D reactive, but you can see they are going to be proactive. Force them to run where you want them to and throw the ball where you want them to.

It's good to see the confidence of the staff trickle down into the players so quickly. I am excited to see this "forced will" come this fall. GO BLUE!!!

Just through interviewing him, you can tell that the mentality Hoke has pressed upon them is definitely rubbing off. As stated in the article, he never said "Ohio State" once. It was always Ohio. He probably said the word "attack" 20 times. He's obviously hungry because we've had a lack of success lately, but there's a sense of hunger combined with focus that really shone through in talking to him for the half hour or so that we chatted. Stepping back as the writer and simply as a fan and observer I was really encouraged at what I was hearing.

Please stop short of assault charges, anything else will be fine.

I truly hope that a few of the upperclass players have an opportunity to make opponents long for the past.

Oh, and thanks, aquaman!

But, getting Pryor to commit to Michigan was hard when Tressel was possibly using unethical tools to recruit that Michigan was not using.

Great article! Thanks so much for sharing it and the additional info.

I loved reading that the defense is taking a fundamentally different approach, especially with the players having had so many different coordinators, techniques, and schemes. They've been a defense that looked hesitant; perhaps now they can use their talent more to their advantage.

RVB seems like a terrific young man.

Worst superhero ever - great work constantly getting captured by the legion of doom. Maybe you can get some sharks to rescue you, oh wait what's that? They can't help you because you are on land and they are fish? Ok, I guess just wait for the alien and the guy with the utility belt to show up.
