Pryor shines in "Stupid QB Camp."

Submitted by mackbru on

Among the highlights from Terrelle Pryor's appearance on Gruden's "QB Camp":

*He does not know the words to the OSU fight song.

*The quarterback he idolizes is...Tom Brady.

*His favorite expression is "I feel very heartfelt."

At some point, I think we have to start treating Pryor with some respect! He is a human being! Leave the guy alone.

Who's with me?

At some point we have to start treating Pryor with some respect. Definitely. For me that point is probably about 6-7 years away.

For now I will stick to ridiculing him behind his back. I don't think he'll neither notice nor care.

I loved the Tom Brady bit. Then when Gruden said, "You know he went to Michigan, right?" Pryor seemed disconnected, when he just retorted, "I hate Michigan!"

<br>Despite the support and praise yay Gruden sometimes gave terrelle, anyone else feel like he was treating him like a toddler?

Yes. Gruden was kinda patronizing TP. Then again, he should be testing and pushing the guy, given all the question-marks. And he did catch Pryor flat-footed a few times.

I felt like Gruden caught both he and Cam Newton flat footed repeatedly, even though the questions were real softballs.

I specifically remember Gruden asking Newton to say any playcall the way he would in a huddle, and he couldn't come up with a single one.

Pryor came off the same way, to me. They both remind me of Vince Young. Theyve both been so good they never knew what it was to meet people who can compete on the same level, and arent able to handle it mentally when they have to actually work to be better than everyone else.

I don't think the Cam Newton thing was really Gruden catching him flat footed or anything like that.   It's simply the system that Auburn runs.  Pretty difficult to talk about calling out a long verbage play in the huddle when you don't huddle and your plays are all numbers.   Seriously, Auburns plays are formation + a number, so Trips Right 36... that's an actual complex passing play for them that could easily be 10+ words in other offenses.

I personally thought that Pryor looked by far, not even close, the worse out of anyone that has been on the show.

Cam Newton yet he was taken #1 overall. Tebow, on the other hand, was an even better college qb minus the character issues and +the ability to call plays and throw a football and almost slipped out of the first round. Funny ol' world.

Tebow isn't a NFL QB IMO. Slow release, bad mechanics and struggled to read defense(pretty much did 1-2 read offense at Florida).  Can't believe that McDaniels spent a 1st round pick on Tebow but then again, McDaniels did a lot of stupid things during his time with the Broncos. He traded away a lot of talents and now the Broncos are rebuilding because of him.

Even though Tebow did well in limited duty as a Broncos, it was really more with the coaching staff playing to his strength. They did screens, quick throws and QB running. Tebow never had  to do progression reads which is something that he struggled from what I've been hearing. No doubt he's a good person with high character and outstanding work ethics.  I feel he's better off moving to H-back where he can use his size/strength to his advantage.

Tebow was a better college quarterback in his sophomore season, not in his other three. But his real skill was not as a pro style quarterback. I watched both players a lot. Newton has more potential. Definitely needs work, but he has a much better arm than Tebow. Not worthy of the first pick by any means, but he has enormous potential. I liked watching Tebow play in Florida's offense. But I just can't see him making the throws a pro QB must make. Newton potentially could. He has a gun if he can learn to throw.

Cam Newton might have a better arm than Tebow, but more potential? I don't know. They are just about equal as runners, especially in an NFL context where even a guy of Newton's size isn't running through linebackers. Further, Tebow has a better mind and more work ethic than Newton from what I have seen, though the sample size with Newton is obviously limited.

My bet is Tebow ends up being a unique oddity in the NFL for a number of years and Cam Newton has his career go somewhere between Vince Young and Jamarcus Russell, trending towards Russell.

Pryor is a joke. He cant talk to people and when ppl question him he looks down his nose at them. He's a self promoting, all about me kinda kid and he will not succeed at the next level. Im glad he hates michigan because the feeling is def mutual

Pryor was still much better than Newton. At least it seemed like he had an inkling of what anything meant other than throw, hand off, or run.

Where are you coming up with Newton being smarter than Newton in terms of football? Did you watch both videos with Gruden. Most of the time, when Gruden asked Newton a question about play calls or formations Cam looked at him like he just asked him the square root of 39876. Pryor, meanwhile could give some sort of legitimate responsine and could actually give reason to certain plays. Pryor played in a system that did have some complication to it. There were more than a few formations and it seemed on the show that he had an idea of how to adjust. Newton didn't have a clue. I'm not saying that Pryor will make it at QB (I actually don't think he will) but in terms of knowledge of football and playing in the NFL, he is so far ahead of Newton it isn't funny. He had no idea what Gruden was talking about most of the time.

while TP has not shown any level of intelligence in interview(and I don't mean Gruden camp).  Newton showed the ability to grasp the playbook quickly and succeed in his 1st year at Auburn.  TP has played in Tressel's system for 3 years and have not been super productive or didn't live up to the hype.  Newton have showed the ability to read defense competently while TP can't read defense.

TP is a pretty much a one read and run QB and OSU really limit him in passing plays because he's dumb to grasp the advanced concepts and can't read defense to save his life.  Cam Newton, on the other hand, executed a much tougher plays.  Gus Malzahn may seems simple but it's not.  Malzahn has some NFL passing concepts that Newton was able to execute successfuly.
