Royce Jenkins-Stone and Terry Richardson visiting other schools

Submitted by goblue12 on

I recently saw on my twitter feed that RJS and Terry Richardson are planning on visiting other schools. Should this be a cause for concern? I remember Rich Rod used to say something along the lines of: "If I guy is committed but still taking visits to other schools then he's not really committed, he's just interested". Personally, I don't think its a big deal but I wanted to hear the opinions of some of the more knowledgeable posters.

I don't mind. Unless it's to Alabama or USC. Wouldn't want them to get Sabaned or Kiffined....

I know tressel would tell kids to use all of their trips to make sure if they wanted to be buckeye if thy ever felt on the fence. recruits would back up his notion as well especially if they were already committed to osu. typically in interviews they would state that tressel told hem to do this. not sure if hoke has the same mentality or not but just something I thought you might like to know. also, paid trips to Florida or USC can't sound too bad to a 17-18 year old kid.

Maybe they have relatives they want to go see .... Just my 2 cents... As long as they stay verbally & eventually sign the letter of intent come nsd,  I'm all good with that.

Part of the perks of the recruiting process is the kid gets to take 5 free trips, for top rated recruits like these 2, that means anywhere they want to go. They had to deal with the annoying phone calls, let them enjoy a couple of free trips. I don't see much to worry about here. These two have been recruiting for us ever since the day they comitted.

I think with the GBOD.  It would be hard for them to de-commit.  Let them have some fun.  If they find somewhere they like better, it would be hard to fault them for that.

To be honest, it does make me a little uneasy, but you have to think about it from their point of view.

They're kids from Michigan who want to play together at Michigan, but why not get full paid trips to places like Florida, California, Texas, etc. I sure as hell would wanna go to nice campuses and be treated like a king.

Also, I don't think the guy tweeting "GBOD" will go anywhere but Michigan.

Any coach with verbals has to continually keep in touch with the kid (within NCAA guidelines of course). It's always a concern when a kid goes to another school to visit because you have no idea what will happen. Remember ROJO and his family?

It would be just like letting your girlfriend go for a weekend with a handsome, successful man who runs an established, thriving company while you are toiling back at home trying to resuscitate a once-powerful one.  What could go wrong?

I think it would be kinda like if my wife won a trip on a cruise ship and only she could go. I trust her....and i'd understand her wanting to see other parts of the world BUT it sure would make me uncomfortable and more than a bit nervous while she was gone.

Edit: i posted that at virtually the same time you posted your almost identical anology.

Has to be the second dumbest analogy ever. Funny how ignorance feeds ignorance.

A REAL man would send his wife off on that cruise knowing he would get two weeks of peace and quiet, AND she couldn't possibly find a better dick anywhere in the world. And if she did--well, so frucking what?

Look, I don't want people coming here that don't want to be here.

I think RJS and TR are solid.  Let them have their visits, their free vacations.  They will be blue, I am not worried.

I would be much more concerned if they were taking unofficial visits. I see nothing wrong with taking free trips to anywhere in the country you want to go.

T-Rich was pretty upset by the responses of some Michigan fans when he suggested the visits.

Fault on both sides there IMO. People think they have some right to contact these kids and tell them what they think when it isn't at all warranted (as evidenced by some guys telling him off for wanting to take other visits).

But at the same time, what outcome was Terry expecting by tweeting that. It's just flamebait, especially when he came out later and said he's 100% to Michigan. Twitter's useful for a lot of things but I think these kids need to recognize that it's a public forum. He starts advertising he wants to take visits, and it's easy to get the wrong impression. Getting PO'd at the couple jerks who go off on him for it isn't productive either.

One) It was probably a LOT more than a "couple" jerks. You read this blog, and there are others. Michigan Stupid Fan is rampant. Ubiquitous, and generally dumber than a box of rocks.

2) At least a few of them were probably non-Michigan fans posing as such.

But yeah, you're right--the kid should not talk to ANYBODY because, well, of stupid fucks who stalk people on the intranets~!

On the nose. I ill never, never understand the sluggish thought process of people who reach out to these kids online. As far as I'm concerned, nothing ever good could come of it. And to slander them? Do you think that's helping the cause?

On the other hand, this is what we would consider 'foreseeable consequences.' While I think the reaction reflects poorly on us and is counterproductive, I don't think any fanbase would react any different. Of course, saying a 17 year old kid should know better is a bit off the mark

Anonymous UofM fans: shut up! All you can do is hurt our cause. Nobody knows you. Nobody cares about your opinions! We come on MGoBlog to talk to each other about Michigan football.  Let's keep it here.

Sorry Terry. If we weren't all half-insane, we wouldn't be fans.

I'm sorry, but anyone that is over the age of 17 that tries to contact and communicate with these 17 year old HIGH SCHOOL kids is a loser. That's harsh but I can't see any other term that fits IME. Follow them if you must, but don't pretend that you are their actual friend and your comments mean anything. And especially, say nothing negative or GTFO.

They are going to 7 on 7 camps/tournaments at Florida and Oregon. At least Terry is. They are guilty of poor wording, or trying to get a rise out of people at best.

June 26th, 2011 at 10:13 AM ^

I don't think that they will leave. Though I'm wondering what exactly the rules are. Matt Godin wanted to be a silent commit but still make his last two visits to Wisconsin and another school. Hoke supposedly told him he would only accept his committment when he's done visiting other schools. So a few weeks later after the vists he committed. Like I said i still think they're blue but the rules should be the same for everyone.

EDIT: If they are just 7 on 7 tournaments and not official vists then nevermind.

"Terry_Rich: My trips to oregon and florida is the the opening and gridion king by espn not the schools @_maizeandblue since you all in my tweets buddy"

I do think it is a little stalkerish for UM fans to direct message recruits. That is going a little too far.

Who wouldn't be nervous with 2 of their prized prospects visiting elsewhere. It happens year in and year out where a solid verbals de commit and sign elsewhere after falling in love on another visit. The visit that makes me really nervous is Oregon. Their AthleticTreatment Center is tops in the nation ... built and paid for by the founder of Nike. Here's a youtube post of the ridiculous treatment center ... it's an older youtube clip, so many people may have saw this, but this would definitely draw the attention of a new recruit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYbqtaHdJzY   On top of that ... Dior Mathis is a Cass Tech recruit that signed with Oregon in the 2010 class, so I am sure he will be doing whatever he can to try to get him to strongly consider Oregon while he is there.

There is nothing we can do other than to show our support 100% for Mathis and Royce, and to continue to wow them on mgoblog with class and support. it's definitely not good to bash them as people on twitter obviously have done (see a few posts up). We are Michigan and we always treat people with respect, and never stoop to bashing. Unfortunately their are some fake Michigan fans on twitter that resort to bashing. That, or they are Sparty's and Buckeyes in disguise, trying to sabotage a program that is headed back in the right direction.

I am thinking this post on June 12th must have started the twitter bashing:

If I was in that position, I would definitely want to check out some "southern hospitality" from Auburn's "hostesses."  I hope they have a great time wherever they go.  Besides, it's legal for them to "recruit" their peers to Michigan while on visits.

Yeah I read something about this on another thread. T Rich kind of scares me when he makes certain comments. I think he said something along the lines of

"I thought michigan was my home and where all my support is i aint think yall would downplay me like that otherwise i couldve went elsewhere".

I really hope T Rich decided to go to Michigan because of the school and not the fans. If the fans are why he chose to go to Michigan then maybe he made a mistake. Hopefully someone can talk to him; he is an important member of this class.

Hey, people, if you're reading this, stop tweeting and Facebook messaging these recruits.  Grow your asses up.

That being said, Terry Richardson was always expected to go out of state for school.  I won't believe that he's Michigan's until he signs on NSD.  I'm not saying he's a liar or anything, but I think the main reason he committed was because of Jenkins-Stone and Ross.

So this shouldn't be surprising, and stop being a dick to these kids.  Did you not see what happened to Strobel, Kalis, Herbstreit, etc. and all those guys who went out of state for school, talked badly about OSU, etc.?  We can't claim to be better than the bastards in Ohio if we act just like them.

johngrdn82

June 26th, 2011 at 10:33 AM ^

I agree with you I wish people would just leave these recruits alone. These kids need time to grow up, I couldn’t imagine the things that would have came out of my mouth had I been put in front of a microphone like these kids. With that being said, I don’t think people will ever stop tweeting and Facebook messaging these recruits. I think we’re fighting a losing battle. People are just to pationate about their school. I think all we can do is hope these recurites chose Michigan for the school and not the fans.

June 26th, 2011 at 10:37 AM ^

Fighting a losing battle doesn't mean it shouldn't be fought.

If we try to get out the message that tweeting and facebooking recruits is a stupid, stupid, stupid idea, then maybe people will read it and get the message.

I agree with you 100%, this is something I stress as much as possible, I just think that the whole twitter and facebook thing has gotten so out of control. Just like the internet gives certain people a voice that should not have one; twitter and facebook does the same with certain fans. Theirs a small group of crazies whom twitter and facebook provides an avenue to voice their stupid opinions. I really don’t know what can be done about it, it’s a problem that O$U has had for years and haven’t been able to solve.
