New UM Stadium Scoreboards
I know the guy that owns the crane company installing the new HD boards. He is out at the stadium now putting up some steel. We thought the actual boards maybe going up but that is not the case yet. I was going to go for ride in the crane when the boards go up. He is indicating that the new boards are 60H x 120W. Probably old news on this blog. How much larger is this than the old scoreboard?
When you do get to go in the crane you should take pictures.
Hopefully it works out since I have a few trips planned in July and August.
Be a team player; cancel them
Using pythagorean's theorem to get the standard measurement of televisions gives us a TV with a diagonal of 84.9 ft. Holy crap, I am excited. Please take some pics while up the crane.
I'm curious about your math, young Pythagoras.
I get: ~134.16407865 ft.
God damn it. I minored in math and went all they way up to differential geometry. I can calculate point groups and symmetry but I cannot do simple trig.
Can't do simple geometry, either!
/s
PS: How do you get negative 86,071 pts?
Doesn't the diaganol have to be at least as long as the longest side? So at minimum it would be 120 ft. Unless I'm reading something wrong, don't know how a TV is measured, or just an idiot.
Maybe try 134'. Unless of course, you're using a different Pythagorean theorem than I learned in school.
Overused gif ^2 + bad math skills ^2 = youdonefuckedupson ^2

<br>But don't worry. Your comment was definitely the loudest, craziest and best student post EVER
Oh I make one mistake. God forbid. I am sure you so perfect
You should probably be able to do basic math.
My fellow friends in physics have noticed a trend with us. As we get deeper into mathematical and physical theory our basic math skills decline. I can solve third order PDE's but god forbid I use basic trig functions I have not seen since high school.
in high school and went on from there and my basic arithmetic really suffered but I knew my alphabet, when I became a display carpenter my arithmetic went through the roof.
Can't wait to see the new boards. They should really kick the stadium experience up a notch or two.
+1 to you because your name made me laugh.
Looking forward to seeing the new boards up soon.
looks like they're erecting the frame for the scoreboard on top of the posts now. we go to Michigan Stadium tonight so I'll shoot some pics then.
That's quite an erection.
the old scoreboards were, but I'm going with hella-fuckin' larger.
What does that [hella-f*ckin' larger] convert to in the metric system for our Canadian posters?
my guess: hella-f*ckin' larger, eh?
is that DBrandon is planning on adding another 10,000+ seats to fill in either side of said scoreboard in the south endzone. He figures that because the waiting list for season tickets exceeds this number, the seats will be instantly sold. He went on to mention that he would leave it to another AD to fill in the seats in the north endzone later down the line. I bet filling in the endzones with more seats will increase the volume in the Big House even more. I look forward to going to games where the attendance is something scary like 135,000 in my lifetime. Go Blue!!!
I bet filling in the endzones with more seats will increase the volume in the Big House even more.Did you really say that?
If you are wondering how much bigger they are than the old scoreboards than this should help.
Do they not have a webcam like they had when the old scoreboards came down?
DB said in one interview that they will be about 40% larger than the original ones.
Only nearly the whole surface area can be used.
I've seen the mock-ups and it looks awesome. Scoreboards are one of those things that I don't think can ever be considered too big (as long as sight angles aren't compromised).
While it is an unfair advantage since many Ohio students are still taking geometry (kind of like how intelligent adults get rocked by 5th graders on that one TV show), they are going to have a field day with this.
I just drove by them on the way to go grocery shopping. Right now there is a big steel beam sticking out the top of all the round support posts on the north side of the stadium with some diagonal ones between them for support. These scoreboards are going to be huge. When I went by there wasn't really anything going on on the south side.
I'm lucky enough to live a few blocks from the stadium. Took a couple snaps of the north end during a stroll today...will try to keep you eager out-of-towners updated on the progress. (taken with my phone, sorry if the image quality2 is so-so)
because it's the opener. it will be a much better atmosphere week one than week three, plus easter is REALLLLY bad.
