meta: Beavermonkeys must die

Submitted by Brian on

Tim quoted one of Allen Trieu's scouting reports on new grayshirt commit Jeremy Clark in his recent "Hello" post. This spawned the usual thread on GBW about "stealer monkeys" and the like with some accusations from Tom Beaver himself.

To clarify the policy we have here:

1. We don't play the "I heard it from somewhere" kabuki dance found at Rivals/Scout etc. where board members repeat the info they got from another site without sourcing it because sourcing it would get it deleted. Information is going to move either way even if you put up protests-too-much barriers against it.

Instead, someone posting information from another site is expected to provide a source and a link. Same effect except the right people get credit.

2. We do try to leave premium content premium. Usually quotes from premium articles reproduced here are months old; Clark's sudden rise and commit was an unusual case. They are always small sections of a much larger whole and fall under fair use. We acknowledge that the premium sites should not have their paywall strip-mined for all available info and will delete significant C&Ps of articles.

3. Anyone who would believe TomVH is not getting his own information is willfully ignorant at this point. Beaver:

that's my beef with them among others. THV recently dropped his sub here, so he isnt even paying for it, he's 'borrowing' some else's moniker even.

It's one thing to take info, or rumors, and then independently go confirm it and then report it ... we do that too ... to me that's part of the biz - tips come in from everywhere ... we confirm everything we report, else call it a rumor

But to blatantly steal, and that's it ... just-plain wrong ... that's not taking a tip and then doing your own work to confirm it and then report it ... big difference - "ethics"

This comes less than a week after TomVH spanked Scout's ass red on Kyle Kalis's visit. "Ethics" do not include telling your cultists that the other, much more grammatical cult is stealing all your chants when it's bloody obvious their chants predate yours. As literally anyone with a fifth-grade grasp of English knows, Tom's information is his own. He has predicted or broken dozens of commitments, interviewed even more prospects than that, and... oh, hell, what's the point? If you need to be convinced of this you can't be convinced of it because you can't percieve time. You are having a very trippy life.

Nothing like a good rant to round out a Friday and set the drinking tone for the weekend. Brian, I suggest you sit back, make a stiff drink, and enjoy your weekend.

Haters goonnnn hate.

I mean.... getting nails done (hers -- I assume), getting married on a weekend, having friends in town, getting married

Beaver has a copyright on all those activities!!! He came up with them first!!!

It's kind of odd seeing this one-sided discussion here (not being able to access the thread where the beavermonkeys diss Brian/TomVH/Tim). Scout mods, why don't you make that a free thread so it's not just a circlejerk?

One of the posters started a thread about the paid article excerpt tim used in the Hello: Jeremy Clark post. He was asking about whether it was legal/copyright, etc. A few of the posters responded and basically said it was fair usage, it wasn't a full copy and it was sourced to Scout, but then Beaver came on and started ripping on MgoBlog for stealing their stuff all the time and it turned in to tomvh being flamed for not doing his own work and just stealing stuff from Scout.

Complaining about the Clark post is one thing and I think Brian made a point in this post to note that they don`t try and pull stuff if they can avoid it. The ripping on Tom stuff though was just uncalled for which I believe is what really prompted this post.

I agree. A one-time paragraph posted on an unknown recruit is OK in my book, but it's understandable for them to get upset about it.

But TOMVH?! The man does so much hard work, and seems to have better relationships with recruits than any other recruiting "expert"..

BLOG WAR! can we start a rumble, MGoBlog vs. Scout? I'm confused as to what's happening, but I'll fight! (Also, afterwards can we rumble with tRCMB just to take em out?)

Per Urban Dictionary:

Sexually active lesbian. Aggressive homosexual female.

When going to Vixen in Provincetown, the beaver monkeys were all over the fresh meat.

I'm a subscriber to Scout, Rivals, and I read this here free blog every day. Yes, I know it's total overkill and that $20 a month could be spent much more wisely.

But I can honestly say that I really enjoy all three sites, and while there's a fair amount of overlapping (stolen, borrowed, whatever) information, each site provides its own unique and valuable perspective. And more than a few laughs.

I don't think Beaver's a bad guy. More like a whacky, occasionally paranoid uncle. He's passionate, plugged in, and he's right more a lot more often than he's wrong. The Rivals guys know their stuff, too. And Brian's so damn talented, I'm just worried we lose him to the pursuit of the great American novel, which he's totally capable of writing.

What a shit. Everyone cancel your Scout subs. Just embarrassed that their "premium" info is getting scooped by TVH, Brian, Paul & co well before they even have such info.

Trolls gonna Troll.

Info is info and who works for it is generally the first one out with it and I have zero issue with it.

Beaver or TVH, posters follow both in cult like fashion, ie both boards posters saying...well if ..... says it i will believe it..... So for one board or the other to make fun of either or the other posters is hilarious....cause what would you be doing here then if you aren't following a publishers every whim?

I like the recruiting info from every michigan site I visit, I like the team/staff info as well. But to be honest, I don't really follow recruiting super close, I watch, but I don't hang on a single word that beaver, tvh, sam webb, brian or anyone for that matter posts. If a player signs, great, if not so be it...that is recruiting

The fact that the words, TomVH, Rivals, MGoBlog, Maizeman or ErocWolverine (Who is an even bigger douchnozzle than Beaver) can't even be typed into GoBlueWolverine is unbelievable. They come up in asterisks. I truly wish 24/7 would buy GBW and put the Beaver out to pasture. Unfortunately, most rumors have been that TheWolverine would be joining 24/7 rather than GBW.

Scout should be thrilled that mgoblog exists in its current form. I'm sure many are far far more into michigan football than they otherwise would be (I know I am) and are thus much more likely to consider premium sites as a result (or at least they would be, had the scout guys not outed themselves as pricks today)

But then a good Internet slap fight might be more preferable to Wedding last minute craziness. Fair use is ok even on subscription content. People subscribe to newspapers, yet they can still be quoted. I've had no interacting with Tom Beaver, but it's amazing how universally he's disliked. He must truly be an unpleasant human being. I'm sure he does his share of homework, but when I've heard him on the radio I've never been impressed with his insight into football. (i mean i agree when he says stuff like "recruiting is a numbers game", because, well, like duh). And he seems to have a higher percentage of rumors that go south than most (certainly more than TomVH). Maybe because he carelessly publicizes more. I'm sorry Sam Webb has to associate with them. (This is not MGoSuck-Up...I've been critical here at times, and I think Borton at the Wolverine is a pretty forthright guy, even if you don't agree with a his views). I guess I just don't get why you would pay to post inanities (which I do), and read stuff in the era of twitter. Beaver, you work in college recruiting reporting; the CIA is not out to get you, or anyone else.

But really Brian...your nails done? Your mancard is in jeopardy. And I hope it's not Emo black.

Forget this silliness, and try to have fun. (Though I am blaming your return for this for causing no one to commit today. Everyone knows all hell breaks out Michigan news-wise when you're gone).
