Kalis & Wormley

Submitted by jbibiza on

I just listened to the Recruiting Roundup podcast and Sam was clear that he did not expect any commitments from these two on SATURDAY.  Excuse the caps lock but I felt that Sam was giving a hint by continually saying the word SATURDAY with extra emphasis - perhaps meaning that committments are more likely on Sunday/Monday?  Maybe just wishful thinking/hearing on my part, but in any event  he reaffirmed that we are looking very good for both of these guys.

I'm not sure why people expect him to commit so soon? I mean he has never been on campus and he just decommitted.  I realize recruiting isn't always rational, but I would think fresh after decommitting he would take his time a little bit. This all comes with the same caveat as other posted have said: then again, I don't know shit.

I"m hoping he's the kind of kid that committed early to OSU b/c he doesn't like the recruiting process and when he found the right place he said yes and got it over with.  Then it quickly became the wrong place in late May...

Now that he's not committed, let's hope that UM is the right place and he'll want to be committed again and get it over with.

Otherwise, I see your point.  Because if the only reason he committed early to OSU was because he had only ever thought about being a Buckeye, then he (and Dunn for that matter) may wait until February and eat up the experience and 5 free campus visits before deciding.  This is what the 'Bamas, USCs, and Floridas are hoping for.

sorry this doesn't revolve around Kalis but word is from the osu training camps is that Dunn is now solid with osu. he was apparently in Columbus on Thursday with his family and visiting with coaches and talking to at least one families recruit in derrick green. I've also seen all of the bill green tweets about Dunn decommitting this week sometime so its hard to know what to think. anyway, that was just the info from bucknuts.

The shift in recruiting to early commitments has turned many fans into spoiled brats who can't wait fifteen minutes between Hello posts. If some of these folks have to wait until Signing Day to find out where their favorite 5-star is going, they're going to need mental health counseling.

You may be reading too much into Sam's statements, but at the same time, I think that we are in great shape with both of these guys.  Landing a 5* OL (Kalis) and a highish 4* DE (Wormley), along with the possible to likely commits of a highish 4* OL in Diamond and Dunn (4-5* RB) would seriously take this class from very good to elite.  What's crazy is that it is likely that we get at least 3 of the 4 names that I mentioned.

Other than Jeremy Clark from Kentucky, yes I think this wraps up the DB recruiting. Sam mentioned this morning that the coaches may offer Clark a scholarship early instead of the greyshirt if Wilson decides to go elsewhere. We're battling ND and PSU for Wilson's commit, so there's good competition for his services.

Once the visit takes place we'll be in a great position with him. Visiting campus with these coaches would put most kids on commitment watch. This process has probably been hell for Kalis in Ohio but Hoke uber allies will make him feel very comfortable and reassured. Heck I feel that way every time they give an interview, they're very engaging.

Not sure if it meant anything.  He talked about both guys earlier this week, and said he didn't expect a commitment.  Don't remember if he said don't expect it SATURDAY with the same emphasis.

Some poster on the Scout Free Boards who claims to be close to Kalis said not to expect his recruitment to last past this weekend. That seems to be the only (not-even-verified) source of expectation. Other than that, it seems to be all conjecture.

What is it like to be simultaneously so trusted and well respected on this board, and yet so consistantly ignored/second-guessed/doubted? "I know Tom talked to the guy, and the guy said his favorite food is pizza, but I have to imagine based on random conjecture that he likes burgers more." You're like the scientist in every disaster movie.

I don't think I "ignored/second-guessed/doubted?" Tom at all, but thanks.

All I did was infer that when Tom said the OP was wrong it meant that Kalis was MORE interested than the OP thought.  What did you take form Tom's post that the OP was wrong about Kalis?  Care to share your "random conjecture?"

Not everyone reads every post on here, so it's bound to happen which is fine. I do sometimes wonder if people are actually reading my stuff sometimes if there's a front page post or a diary and someone posts the exact same thing from elsewhere.

It happens on Twitter a lot, too. I'll post something and someone will ask a question that's answered by my tweet. It's like a weird game of Jeopardy. I don't mind though, I like talking to everyone.

In that update, I want to make this part clear, that it's not 100% that Kyle will take the other visits. I'll explain everything that happened once it's over if someone reminds me.

The decision to take visits was decided by he and his coach so he can think about things. Visits can sometimes change that, but we'll see.

I am usually very skeptical, but for some reason I find myself believing a random poster on a Scout free board.

He's had an account for 2 years, has only 11 posts on the Michigan site (31 total of all sites), and the bulk of them are about Kalis.

Either he's got some info, or is a sleeper-troll who has been waiting for the prime moment and was activated when the Kalis decommit happened..

With cheddar, grilled onions and pickles with a basket of shrooms plz.  As far a Kalis goes he may be feeling pressre only in that if he figures he's going blue anyway, it's to the benefit of his future team to commit early, maintain this bizarre momentum,  and help with landing the next guy.

Tom, since you're up and about, I was wondering what you thought the State of the OLine was outside the Big Fish people are all giddy about? Specifically, with Thurston looking like a Husker, Mullen gone, Olson gone, and Bars about to drop, where do we stand if we don't get Bars?

I guess Bisnowaty is the only name left, does he have any real interest, or are we trailing Penn St. and Pitt?

I think thhe coaches have gone back and forth on whether to take 2 or 3 more linemen. With Diamond and Kalis in the position they're in, the coaches at most have one more spot to fill. You mentioned Bars and Bisnowaty, Bars as he said in my interview is announcing within a week. If they miss on those two the cochra can sit back and wait for guys like Garnett and Banner to visit and see what happens. If they were to only get Kalis and Diamond I don't think they would mind. You might see a few new names pop up too if they decide that they do want 3 more in this class.
