Donovan Warren: Potential Quote Machine

Submitted by UMichGA on

Was watching the Bowling for Brock video on mgoblue.com and found this little gem when Warren was being interviewed:

"It's a good opportunity for us to bond together as a team, and also to give back, ya know. We're just real fortunate to be alive today, ya know, some people are less fortunate."

Pretty sure he intended to mean that it was great that the football team could help out the less fortunate, but you gotta love when you get a teenager in front of a camera and ask em questions.

I know some people have talked about gettin a quote page up and running and I for one want to throw my hat into that, because there's just too many gems out there and I can't remember them all.

I have to say though, it was great to see the football team helping out the Mealer family and it was also great to see how they have been able to handle themselves through this tragedy and through all the adversity. For me, this is just one more reason to love Michigan Football.

And I do love it, some might say a little too much, but they're all just dirty, dirty liars. That is all.

UMichGA - Just a lil correction here: It's not the Brock family, it's Brock's family, as in Brock Mealer, as in Elliot Mealer's (UM Olineman) older brother.

I enjoyed Brian's unearthing of Chad Henne's motivational speech at QB camp last year that I bought the "Excellence is Good" t-shirt.

I've read the quote like 7 times and I can't see what's funny. They were at an event for a kid whose parents died, and Warren said they were fortunate to be alive - some were not as fortunate (ie, Mealer's parents)...where's the mis-speaking?

it's the quote taken out of context, if you just read the quote with not knowing anything about the situation, that is what i got the chuckle out of..

nothing is funny about what happened to that family, and my heart goes out to all of them.

I didn't think you found anything funny about the situation - I just thought I was supposed to be looking for some really big gaffe with words or something.

Well, thank Christ we've got chitwonblue telling us what to think is funny and what not to think is funny. What happened to the Mealers was horrible and I wouldn't wish it on an OUS fan. What GA was pointing out was that deceased people are not normally referred to as "less fortunate". There's the gaffe, stretching it as it may be.

Here's the irony: chitownblue's blog - "Wolverine Liberation Army" (which I whole-heartedly enjoy) - has a post up entitled "Glorious Accomplishments of Socialism". It satires Castro's reign of terror, Zedong's oppression of the majority of the world's population, and Stalin's murder of millions. I ask you what do you find more amusing: an elderly driver making a mistake behind the wheel and tragically killing two people or numerous bloodthirsty dictators murdering and oppressing millions? Neither? Same here.

The rub: I found the quote to be of some interest (and mild amusement at best) in  light of the whole deceased being described as "less fortunate" thing. I also found chitownblue's indignation about it quite ironic even though he didn't pen the post on his blog. I still love the WLA even though I know from reading some of the contributor's posts there and elsewhere that they are quite on the liberal side of things here at home. Satirizing communist USSR while supporting more government dependency, taxes, and the "gov't knows what's best for us" mentality by supporting the liberal politicians would be a lot funnier though, if it wasn't so damn scary. God help us all.

According to my right hand I'm promiscuous, but according to my left it still cries itself to sleep at night. Juggling relationships is just downright hard.

And for my money, numerous bloodthirsty dictators murdering and oppressing millions is ALWAYS funny. Perhaps we could pay more taxes and hire one? Oh, nevermind- we already have an Islamic plant in the running.

Voting is gay - I've never even seen a ballot. My odds of making a difference are about the same as me getting hit by lightning on the way home today while three brazilian shemales service me in a jacuzzi outside the unicorn candy factory.
