OT: Gold Cup - US v. Guadeloupe - Open Thread
USMNT v. Guadeloupe
I think Canada beat Panama, so that helps something or other. Nevermind, Canada derped its way into a draw.

Do we have a chance for first in the group? By the way, the game is on fox soccer channel (channel 727 on Comcast in Ann Arbor if you have the Sports Entertainment Package).
Canada just yakked away a win so Panama's going to be first in the group. U.S. only needs a draw to advance.
Don't pretend you like soccer. You're watching the Tulsa Shock vs the Indiana Fever post game.
You're the only one that even realizes that there is a Fever/Shock game being played currently.
ZZZzzzzzz.......
have a live stream for this one?
FT Canada 1:1 Panama. US win or tie: US finishes 2nd & plays Jamaica in QF. US loss=out. Canada survives only with US loss.
Wouldn't Canada advance as one of the best 3rds (I know, sad) and play against Mexico ?
shirtless for starting the thread. i was going to try to start one myself but dont have enough points....
cant believe wondolowski got a start after he air mailed the tying goal from last game from about a yard away. also when is edu going to get a start? he's twice the midfielder jones is. for those wondering, tim ream is not even listed as a sub tonight. go usa! win and move on.
A very good reason to care. Not as good as patriotism, but more immediate.

Edit: Kept getting service error 503 messages: that accounts for the irksome triple post. Sorry.

Jozy just ripped that into the corner of the net.

If the USMNT lose it'll be eliminated
If they draw El Salvador gets eliminated
If the USMNT wins canada will be toasted
I totally would not want to draw the European Union. That would suck.
Sorry I copied it from a spanish written forum and didn't realize
If the US draws, they finish second ahead of Canada on goal difference and Canada is eliminated as the worst third place team.
Yep, looks like you're right
Jozy, right foot, distance, pace, wow......
Chris Wondolowski really earned this starting spot with excquisite finishing against Panama............
C'mon man, if you're not intersted, just don't comment.
I watched the world cup, but no I'm not a huge fan....but the quote was funny and he said it on the episode I watched today.
You do realize (I hope) that Colbert plays a character, and that the character he plays is the subject of his satire.
He means to mock the person you just quoted.
Do you mean to mock yourself? Is this a double layer of caricature/irony? If so, well done.
you mean that everything he says isn't true.
please don't tell me there is no such thing as Santa.
US finally off to a good start.
Granted their opponents don't have much beyond pride to play for.
Wondalowski cannot buy a goal in this tournament!
us 1-0. they are playing good but not great. i think they look pretty sketchy in the back, and their finishing hasnt been there. but hard to complain when they get something like 10+ shots in a half.
by Cherundolo, Bradley, and Lichaj. The D needs to solidify and stop those easy through balls. Offensively we need to maintain ball control better and try to get easier oppurtunities for Wondo and Jozy. All in all though a very well put together first half for them.
!!!
How the f do you not score there..... :(
???!!??!!!???!!!!
else impressed by bedoya? this is my first real chance getting to see him play and he looks great.
i also think lichaj looks good too, all things considered.
Disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing as far as soccer technique and strategy goes, but, I was impressed by Bedoya as well. Just seemed like he had tons of hustle when everyone else was looking pretty apathetic.
If we do not win this outright I think the goat is pretty easy to pick out. Two outstanding chances that didn't come close to the goal and one failed chance that suggests he has no business playing competitive soccer on any level.
How is he still in the game?
Dempsey always acts like a hard ass. It makes me sick. I'm sorry but Soccer features the largest scoring orifice in the world and that guys misses the net WAY TOO MUCH for how hard he struts around the field.
how the hell does he not one-touch the ball into the goal from about 5 feet out!? that was just plain stupid.
Please tell me you're kidding about Dempsey.
He looked pretty good against Man U.
he is our top pure goal scorer at this point.
Clint Dempsey blew more chances than John Daly.
Thought Donovan and Dempsey both looked sloppy this game. Donovan looked sloppy in every game of the tournament though. Passing wasn't crisp, too many crosses missed compared to normal. Perhaps he's still not over whatever he was sick with before the cup started?
Dempsey also didn't have his usual swagger this game. He didn't crack a smirk until he missed that last one. Just wasn't his night. Perhaps he's getting a bit of tired legs? Hopefully he can take it easy the next few days and get some juice back.
Really felt better with Bocanegra in the center and Lichaj on the left. It really solidified the center and offered some speed and aggression on the left. While I'd still like to see someone play better than Goodson, having Bocanegra in the middle made Goodson noticably better.
Dempsey had a rough game, and looked real bad last night, but he is one of our best players, and everyone has a bad game from time to time. He is one of the best scorers we have ever had and the folks at Fulham seem to think he is pretty good, so lets hope he comes out strong, as well as Donovan next game.
At least when the US plays aggresive, they look like they can play with anyone.
