Michigan vs Colorado in Sportsnation Entrance Tradition Poll

Submitted by ish on

in this article: http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/27947/better-tradition-colorad… espn debates which is a better tradition - our players coming down the tunnel and jumping to the GO BLUE banner or something w/ a mascot named ralphie.  i am an avid college football fan, have been for more than 25 years, and have never heard of colorado's mascot's name.  anyway, vote and crush them.

Mod Edit: Fixed the title to make it more informative.

1. A lot of empty seats in that video

2. CU is a pretty 420 friendly university, pretty crazy to see a buffalo when you're high

3. It has been a while since Colorado has done anything in football

4. The buffalo says beat msu, maybe we should take it to EL this year

5. Buffalo's die (taste pretty good), banners do not

I noticed that a lot of these traditions are not fan friendly traditions.  By that I mean that they are done by the team behind closed doors.  Most teams tough something whether its rope, or a sign about playing like a champion, but the fans cant see any of it.  I personally think traditions like Michigan's banner or FSU or even Colorado's buffalo thing are better than those, because they are fan friendly.

That being said, Michigan's still the best.

if you've never heard of the tradition at CU of running Ralphie. If the Buffaloes were a more prominent program that played routinely in front of more than 100,000 fans, Ralphie would be every bit as noteworthy nationally as touching the M banner.

Ralphie is a girl.

Also FACT-- there are plenty of stories about players stepping in buffalo poop before their own home games.

The Go Blue Banner Jump has never involved poop in any form.*

*Justin Boren notwithstanding, of course.

Unfortunately a lot of people will watch the EA sports videos on that page and have that as their most recent memory. The Michigan video doesn't do it justice... it actually looks pretty lame. Someone needs to post this instead (best one I could find):

There's no denying the following:

1) The Colorado football program has seen better days.  Not good to see that many empty seats in the stadium.

2) Buffaloes die.  (Although so do banners sometimes, as we Michigan fans found out after the Fab Five/Tractor Traylor scandals.)

3) Ralphie is a girl.

Unfortunately, there's also no denying the following:

1) Running onto the field with a live buffalo is pretty badass.

The power that is MGoBlog has now flipped the %'s to 67-33 in our favor.   I love this community.

I'm so pi$$ed at the damn lone voter in Rhode Island that likes Colorado and deceivingly makes that state look like a Buffalo lovin' juggernaut.   C'mon, UM alum in the greater Providence area, make your voice be heard!

After all these years, they STILL haven't put a better recording of The Victors into their games. You have a whole Blu-ray to use up now EA, SO DO SOMETHING WITH IT!

I went to CU and can attest that the running of Ralphie is pretty sweet. However, as someone who often left CU games to watch Michigan games, I'm voting for the banner.

might have been that Ralphie is so versatile. Everyone loves Buffalo wings, even Jessica Simpson.

FWIW, my favorite tradition from another school goes to FSU. That Appaloosa is a gorgeous horse, the burning spear is cool, and the war drums are pretty catchy. Great overall entrance.

BUT you've gotta love that our banner is so iconic that that newlywed couple had it above the entrance to their wedding. (If you haven't seen it, one of our posters put up a YouTube vid of his sister's wedding reception, and as everyone entered, bride and groom included, they touched the banner. Coolness)
