Gunner Kiel has a top 2?

Submitted by HairyPalms on

There is a rumor going on around the Scout boards that it's down to Michigan and Indiana for Gunner's services.

It's Tom Beaver, so I really have trouble believing it. Anyway, he's been high on Bama and Oklahoma forever, it's a highly unlikely story. These kinds of rumors come out all the time for highly touted prospects, I wouldn't give it much credence.

in that he's often the first person to know when someone has committed (Scout usually beats Rivals to the punch on that stuff).

He's just...indiscriminate.  He'll pass on silent commitments that he's heard of from someone on the staff and rumors he's heard of from who knows where and won't make a clear distinction between the two.  There's some "Michigan leads for recruit X!!!" stuff, which will be followed 2 weeks later by the guy committing elsewhere.

He's a good source if you take him with a grain of salt, which most Scout subscribers do not do.

I could be wrong here but I'm going to bet not... My sources say he's going to Southwest Los Angeles Community College Santa Monica Campus.

Must be why he is planning on making another visit to bama, after he just visited OU which was after he visited bama which was after he visited OU which was after he visited bama which just so happens to have been after he visited OU.

Gunner would not be worshipped in Indiana if he stayed...they don't care about football.

I won't believe anything until I see it at this point.  Cannot believe anyone that is the top player in the nation at their postiion would consider Indiana.  I just won't believe it.  When is the last time Indiana got a 4*, let alone a 5*?  Have they ever?

To be devil's advocate, consider that if Kiel goes Blue, he'll probably redshirt his first season and then back up Devin Gardner for two years before getting a crack at the starting job--which he knows he'll have to compete with Shane Morris (and potentially others) for.  But if he goes to IU, from where Ben Chappell has just graduated, Kiel likely starts as a freshman and plays four years.  That's in addition to IU being a good school in a fun college town.

Dusty Kiel is a RS sophomore QB at Indiana, so that means Gunner will have to compete with his brother for the starting job for the first two years and then with others after that. How is that better than competing for the job at Michigan? At a minimum, beating out your older brother would be awkward.

Dusty and Gunner, eh? Pretty good names. Also, I don't believe this story at all, but if it is true and we lose the #1 QB in the country to goddamn Indiana I am just gonna lose it like Will Ferrel in Old School after his failed mascot stunt.

Indiana would be the next best thing to Michigan.  IU is Sparty's annual cross-over game.  I've been trying to figure out how they're going to be good enough to knock Sparty off once in a while.  Gunner would help.

He generally abstains from sharing things that he feels the athletes might not want known, though.  If this Top 2 is just conjecture, or information that was not supposed to be shared, Tom wouldn't weigh in on it.
