RB Greg Garmon visiting Monday

Submitted by drewro02 on

It has been mentioned before that Michigan was in his top five. Looks like this is reaffirmed and a visit will happen this week. It seems like the consensus is Dunn is the guy most would want if we take a running back, but this would also be a nice pickup. Kid is a top 100 guy to Scout, and top 200 to Rivals. Again, stars don't always matter, but it also shows this kid has some legit talent. Time to GBOD like the rest of them Mr. Garmon.

At the very least, getting Garmon on campus allows the staff to apply pressure to Dunn.

Not saying that WILL happen, or it is the "right" recruiting tactic, but it is clearly what this staff has been doing.  And it's been working.  So we will see.

Seriously though, I'm not sure they're doing that on purpose.  I just think they're getting kids in for visits.  That said, I TOTALLY agree with you that the early success is pressuring others to pull the trigger.  In any case, it's working...who cares if it's intentional or not.

If we land Garmon, Dunn would drop the buckeyes and look to other schools.  I have a feeling a kid in Ohio who is Ohio bound has a lot of outside pressure to stay Ohio bound.  Going from a Buckeye recruit to a Wolverine recruit might have some serious side effects.  Going from a Buckeye recruit to say...(not sure who else has offered Dunn but) a Hokie recruit might fly a little better in Ohio. Just thinking...

So maybe in a backhanded kind of way we cost Ohio Dunn.

I think the idea of stealing Dunn from Ohio is one of the big attractive reasons why we all want him too. Don't get me wrong, Dunn seems like a complete stud, but I don't think we would be settling by any means if Garmon ended up being the guy. Like we keep saying, this is not a bad problem to have.

I like Garmon a little better than Dunn to be honest, so I would be cool either way. The guy who I would really love to swing out this way though, is Wes Brown.

the only recruiting tactic is showing a quality kid a quality school to receive a degree and play ball on saturdays.   If Dunn wants to commit to blue he will, if Garmon wants to commit he will. Both are top notch backs and we'll be good either way.   There is nothing different about what we do from any other school in the country.   The recruits have communicated via Allen Trieu and Tom that the staff is not applying pressure, the kids committing does that in itself.

I would happily take a guy like Garmon over Dunn.  If recruits like Dunn and Kalis are still considering going to school in Columbust after all this nonsense has transpired, I can't help but question their judgment and decision-making skills.  Sure this might not be a popular statement but there are plenty of upstanding, intelligent recruits that are clamoring for a spot at UM and want no part of the culture that tsio represents.  I'd rather have a comparable player that wants to "go Blue or die" over one that "settles" for Michigan only after he realizes something is rotten in the state of Ohio.

Selecting a university is an extremely complicated decision, even without taking athletics into account.  When you add the issues associated with post-collegiate football (for the top recruits), I think we need to give these teenagers a break.  Some UofM attendees "bled maize and blue" their entire lives before stepping foot in Ann Arbor, I was one who knew nothing about the University until I attended it and became Blue for life.  I have no problem with a student being a fan of another school, ending up in Ann Arbor because of certain circumstances at Ohio (love when Hoke calls it that), and then becomes a Wolverine for life; I don't consider that "settling".   I recall we have had quite a few legendary Wolverines from the state of Ohio (there was that kid from Cleveland); do we really know (or care) who they cheered for before attending our University?  When they put on the winged helmet, does anyone really care whether we were their first, second or thrid choice, as long as they conduct themselves with class and grace on the field, in the classroom and at the tattoo parlor (sorry, couldn't resist).

Other names like "O$U," "MSUcks," "Dumbtonio" and others just seem childish.  It reminds me very much of my elementary years when I would try to come up with every possible name to call someone.  "Jerk face" and "Poop breath" come to mind.  They weren't creative and neither are any of these other names.

I think a lot of the Ohio kids are great this year.  With the turn of events at TSIO, some are looking our way including Dunn.  But it sure sounds like some of their commits bleed Scarlet and Grey.  Sure, they may look elsewhere because the hammer is coming and rightly looking out for themselves, but they probably have dreamt of playing for TSIO for years.  Maybe an analogy is that you were thinking you were going to marry a girl and then found out she can't have kids (disclaimer: there are a lot of more "colorful" analogies, I just tried to keep it clean).

So, obviously we have an open door for any talented player but wouldn't we prefer a kid who really wants to come to Michigan who might be slightly lower rated, then be a second choice for another kid who is higher rated?

Knowing the attitude of Hoke and the other coaches, I don't think that's a problem.

The love and devotion that he has for Michigan, he'll make sure that we have the right kids playing for us. That doesn't just have to do with their skills. He'll make sure they're the right people personality-wise as well.

I'm not worried about that at all. It's like the story of Spielman's visit to Ann Arbor and his interaction with Bo.

I agree that a couple of their commits bleed Scarlet and Grey, but I don't think Kalis or Dunn can be included in that. Guys like Warren Ball, Tyvis Powell, Joshua Perry, Jacoby Boren...those guys aren't wavering at all. However, Kalis and Dunn have both clearly enumerated the price that will be 'too high' for them (bowl ban, tv blackout, whatever).

Need an elite rb to round out this class.  Mathers, Dunn, Garmon, Marshall, & Wes Brown are my top 5 (of the ones we're recruiting).  Go Blue!

Garmon's got a great combination of size and speed, but he's not the same wrecking ball that Dunn is. I'm working on ranking offered prospects at TWB, and while I'm going to have Garmon very high up on the list, I've yet to see a running back this year as physically impressive as Dunn.

It should also be noted that North Carolina has long been considered the leader for Garmon. Just throwing that out there.

I think as a young player, you begin to develop an identity in high school. Even if Garmon adds on weight, I think he'll always see himself as a shifty speed back. So, whereas Dunn might lower his shoulder into a defender, Garmon would juke or cut. That's not true 100% of the time, but I'd just personally prefer to have Dunn running up the gut than Garmon.

Agreed about Dunn.  Garmin looks like a good back, but Dunn seems special.

Some OSU folks were comparing Dunn and Warren Ball, the two high profile backs that gave verbals to the Buckeyes, and they also seemed to think Dunn was the best back in this region.

I think alot of these tSIO commits are taking their time to decide. Dunn mentioned he was interested in seeing how many years they were bowl banned. Besides, living in the state, wouldn't they take a ton of abuse for immediately jumping ship, especially to Meechigan?

I think the big advantage of Garmon over Dunn would be the awesome GPS-related references we and the press could make.

"Garmon navigates through the hole for a Meeeeeeechigan First Down!"

"Garmon knows the shortest route to the end zone."

What do we get with Dunn? Lame, cliched "done" parodies like "Game over! Dunn puts his name on the game with a 3 TD preformance"?? No thanks!

I don't understand why people are not wanting Dunn just because he is commeited to Ohio State. He will leave once the allegations come and he will commit to Michigan. I dont have any doubts about that..same goes for Kalis.

I sure would take either one but at the same time let's not sleep on Wes Brown. He's a helluva back in his own right coming off an injury shortened season. And the big reason is he's good buddies with Mr. Stefon Diggs and I believe they were packaging themselves as a deal so why not get Brown and get Diggs to follow. Diggs is dynamic in all 3 phases of the game. Would be a great bargain and both have offers. Just saying.

not impossible to get brown and diggs it would be extremely hard to. I wouldn't sleep on keith marshall though. I think once he narrows his list michigan could make it. But idk anything can happen.
