Judge me however you want, but I don't have the stomach to handle the defense in that game. I have no problem fast forwarding past GERG's defense.

It was on last night at 4 AM or something too. Quite a mistake letting my state friend watch that game while everyone else tried to sleep. Even worse was that it was followed up by MSU/ND from last night.

I watched it earlier today and it was just as painful as the first time.  Maybe they'll show this game to the players as an example of how not to play defense.

That was my first game. Hated watching the defense but loved the offense that day.

The place went nuts when we finally stopped the Illini.

Just watched it again. Let's agree to create an NCAA bylaw mandating that Iowa have a tight end on all plays and that the tight end always stand straight up with his hands on his hips prior to the snap. This is important people.

That game reminded me of the scene after the botched execution of Eduard Delacroix (Someone forget to wet the sponge that sends electricity to the condemned man's brain and they had to fry the poor guy for several minutes, creating a big mess.)

Anyway, afterward the warden chews out Paul Edgecomb: quoting from memory here but it went something like...

Warden: What the hell was that?

Edgecomb: A successful execution.

Warden: You call that an execution?

Edgecomb: Well, he's dead ain't he?

I imagine the same sort of conversation after the Illinois game...

Brandon: What the hell was that?

Rodriguez: A win.

Brandon: You call that a win?

Rodriguez: Well, we wound up with more points than they had, didn't we?

The Bruins/Canucks game just went to OT, during the break I'm on BTN.

We're down 59-52...and my blood pressure is way too high.

As bad as the D is, they do show spurts of quality.  Hopeful/confident that Greg (not Gerg) can finely hone those bits.  They also show large quantities of WTF.  Hopeful/confident that Greg (not Gerg) can make those batches disappear.

Now 59-59 (that TD was a gift from Valhalla).

Tate...

Our defense just looks clueless out there. You can see where the "don't watch film" comment came from. And for all the yards he got before Tate came in, it still shows Denard has lots of room to grow. There were a lot of unquarterback-like throws.

Luckily, both can and should get better.

I thought it was interesting that Brian Griese was more or less calling Tate out for not taking the open receivers, (usually in the flat) and forcing the ball where it didn't belong. He made a couple of statements in the last two U-M drives of regulation. And he was definitely not impressed with the defense. Particularly when the wheel routes were open for touchdowns twice and once again for a 1st and Goal inside the 5.
