One of the most thoroughly documented summaries I've seen. A lot of programs would look bad under that microscope, but the sad thing is there are probably a lot of things we don't even know about yet.

Not only that, most of us really haven't rehashed the Maurice Clarett thing yet. Clarett made a lot of these same accusations in 2004 or so, and OSU publicly portrayed him as a mentally ill thug. Now it comes out that the Clarett accusations were probably accurate. If so, Tressel and OSU have a lot to answer for. I'm not sure how the OSU can claim that they had no idea that these things were happening under Tressel currently in light of the previous accusations. I just wonder if any of the powers that be are interested in reexamining that situation, because if they were to do so, I would expect that OSU would be in an even more damning situation, as difficult as that is to believe . . .

"damning" is the exact word to use in this situation.

At first, I couldn't believe that Tressel didn't report this last year. Now it is abundantly clear that he has swept stuff like that under the rug before and was either never caught or never punished for it. So he kept doing it.

It will be interesting to read the SI article coming out and I hope they detail just half of what Genuinely Sarcastic wrote. With everything coming out, I really now believe the NCAA should slow down and take the time to find out every last iota of what went down at TSIO.

The NCAA is a joke. The fact that osu has had more violations than any other institution over the last few years and that the NCAA hasn't done anything about it is a testiment to this. I realize that they are worn thin, but seriously... how could you not have investigated osu five or six years ago for what was going on then? Just as you say, there are probably a ton of things that we don't know, in part because they've left osu to do whatever it is that they want to.

The article hits tressel dead on when calling him a 'gangster'.

You're the one who posted that garbage and it's remained on your front page for months. You never came around to defend yourself then, but you're here to bask in the glory of your recent post. I don't need to rehash anything that's been said here.

At one point you contributed a lot to this board and that was awesome. At some point you became part of the problem.

I'm sorry. I didn't see that post and discussion when it was made. I didn't avoid it; I just didn't see it.

And I'm sorry if I've said things on my blog that anger you, or others. I'm opinionated, and often times I come across as a jerk (to put it lightly), but honestly, I'm past the point of putting much value in what strangers on the internet think of me. That's not me being an ass, or trying to insult you or anyone else. I just have more important things to worry about in my life. I've been battling clinical depression for basically six months now. Things began to crater for me in the latter third of last season. My disappearance here and erratic blogging had nothing to do with suddenly not wanting to say anything because UM was struggling. It had everything to do with *me* struggling. I spent a week in the hospital in late February and early March. Everyday now is a constant struggle. When I finally get the strength to get out of bed, I look myself in the mirror and wonder if I'll have the strength to be here tomorrow. So I'm sorry I've upset you and others with things I've said, and my apparent ducking of people calling me out. I'm just trying to do my best each day, and I'm trying to do things I enjoy.

Look dude we've had our differences, I've been a big dick to you at times. But fuck what that guy thinks, you're entitled to your opinion, you are an outstanding writer, be proud of that. You aren't required to explain yourself to anyone. Stay strong dude.

Like Dark Blue said, you don't need to explain anything. The people who enjoy your posts don't need the explanation, and the ones who don't like your posts probably won't believe it anyway.

Hang in there, buddy, and GO BLUE!

This is exactly what i've needed in discussions with my "friends" who are OSU students/fans

I'm gonna carry around a printed version of this haha

That timeline...is insane. It seems like OSU under Tressel wanted to become the Miami Hurricanes of the 1980's.

I don't even remember Santonio Holmes getting arrested the week before our lone victory over Tressel. We were on fire the 5 games leading up to that game and I remember feeling pretty confident of our chances to win and go to the Rose Bowl. I guess I was just in another world.

I hope the Maurice Clarrett stuff does eventually get investigated. OSU was just a little too eager to write him off as a nut in 03. When that all got swept under the rug, I remember that awful feeling of knowing that Tressel was going to be untouchable as long as he was in Columbus because of his 2-1 record against Michigan. That's why I can't wait for this SI article to come out. Any more chances to expose Tressel for the cheat he is, the better. I never thought this day would come.

I was expecting to find some sarcasm… but it was not sarcastic at all. Well done and a good read.

These OSU guys are making the USC people look like angels.

I had no idea that many Ohio State players had been arrested or how habitual it was for Tressel to just turn a blind eye to whatever his players do. And the whole Clarett saga always struck me as vicious on the part of Ohio State. I realize Clarett was no choir boy, but I doubted he was lying about what was going on in Columbus. So they trashed a guilty man, always a preferred option of the cheater.

The summary at the end is beautiful. Ohio State knew exactly what it was getting in Tressel and did not care, and Tressel did exactly what he had always done at Youngstown. Nothing predicts future behavior better than past behavior. He didn't learn any lessons, he felt bulletproof after getting away with it at Youngstown. And to think of the number of people who talk about how much they look up to this guy, not only Dantonio but recently Pat Fitzgerald.

"Nothing Ohio State has accomplished in the last ten years is valid anymore."

That sums it up in a sentence, even though it doesn't really make me feel any better. Buckeyes fans will still tout their record against Michigan and it won't be tainted in their eyes. It makes me wonder if they have completed a single season under Tressel without players who should've been declared ineligible on the field.

It's a damn shame to see this happen and cast dispersions on what should be a great rivalry played between two iconic and honorable programs. Addressing it may clean it up, but this hurts the Big Ten too.

After the Dari and Mel show today on ESPN, someone should forward this to Mel (aka-fuckin' moron) who professed that one mistake shouldn't condem that idiot in the sweater vest. Does anyone really think that tressel's behavior was an aberration rather than habit? This behavior is habitual and if anyone thinks it isn't, then they'll need an MRI of the brain. Fuck you Mel...

The "other Brian"s" summation is spot on. I live here and i can tell you that the blistering hatred they have for us blinds them to anything that stands between them and victory. All the people calling for Tressel to be fired realy don't get it. 9-1 against Michigan means they will literally follow him into Hell if need be.

Unless the NCAA demands it he will be in Columbus for as long as he wants.

Is this the first ever Genuinely Sarcastic blog post that wasn't about the Free Press or Southeastern and Renaissance?

That was a very nice read. I needed a summary of what has been going on down there. I really hope that program down there gets what they deserve sometime soon.

God bless you Genuinely Sarcastic. You always know the right things to say to me. Strange with a nickname like The Senator that no-one in ohio thought he'd be a shady underhanded corrupt lying sleazy weasel. It goes without saying....

I know this is Off-topic, but is there a reason that none of the voting mechanism is appearing for me? The scores of the posts are being displayed, but no drop-down box or anything for the voting of a post. I am confused. I've checked on each browser on my computer- I had wondered if it was a browser issue as I just updated to Firefox4, but it appears the same for Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.

Thanks for the help. Didn't think my singular issue was really worth its own thread.

Edit: Nevermind, it seems to be working now. Not sure what was going on earlier. Or maybe somebody else posted with my username. Yeah, that must have been it.

I shared this with an osu fan I know and he replied that this is a typical M fan response and that we can't accept defeat. I replied that we don't accept defeat when our opponents cheat. Do you have any suggestions for other things I could say to support our position here?

Edit: After a few more exchanges, during which he presented no evidence to support his position, he attacked the credibility of the Michigan blogosphere as a whole. Hilarious.

If after his coach has been caught lying, cheating and trying to cover up his lies all the while having enough players arrested to fill Alcatraz prison ...he STILL writes it off as Michigan fans not being able to accept defeat, there's nothing you can say to him.

I would, however, like to know how he feels about the millions of non-Michigan folk across the country who have been blasting OSU and making fun of Tressel as well. It's not just that state up north who has pointed out the obvious.

All these allegations and violations have me hoping that the NCAA gives Tressel and OSU exactly what they deserve. Nothing more but certainly nothing less.

To get rid of the state Ohio? It really makes states like the Dakotas and Idaho look cultured. Maybe we can break out an old alumnus like Ted to do the job.
Just kidding about that........ But still consider Ohio to be an arm pit.
