Seems like an interesting event. I don't remember them having one last year. UPDATE: I received another email: "We have filled our available slots for the Chalk Talk event. You will receive a separate confirmation if you received one of the reserved slots. Reservations are now closed." That was fast.
That seems like an odd location. Are they trying to draw the GR and Chicago people without getting too far from Metro Detroit? It's a smooth and easy 30+ drive from Ann Arbor, especially at that time of day.
There is already a similar event scheduled.
as they want to get to Lansing.
Not an odd location when you consider Al Glick of Alro Steel has donated millions to the University of Michigan.
Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if this is intended as a personalized presentation to Al Glick that just happens to be open to the public. Although Jackson is kind of a shitty area, there is still a huge Michigan following there.
You said "Although Jackson is kind of a shitty area,"...sigh, yes it is with regards to a small city that has not survived the automotive failures very well. The area/county is nice but the city is not so great.
I agree. I have to drive out there everyday for work and refuse to buy a house in the area just because theres nothing to do in Jackson.
In days gone by Jackson seemed like the capital of inexpensive, well-kept public golf courses (most notably: http://www.cascadesgolfcourse.com/). I wonder if that's still the case.
Jackson indeed had lots of courses and they were cheap. The Cascades was always a good one another is the Sharp Park course. I grew up playing on that one, I didn't realize how expensive golf was until I left Jackson. http://www.ellasharppark.com/golfcourse/GolfCourse.aspx
I didn't mean to disparage the residents of Jackson, who I've found to be largely great people. It's just that Jackson seems to have suffered from some of the same problems other mid-lower Michigan cities have. Some of the industry went away, and nothing stepped in to replace it. Also, there seems to be a very high concetration of Asian massage parlors there.
Jackson is a fairly rund down area. I'm from NJ, but my Grandma lives in Jackson and it's not the type of place you'd want to live.
will diagram how to squeeze dollars from a turnip
It is a city that needs a bit of love.
go forth gobluemagnus and report back in great detail.
They will be in the DC area on the 12th at an event to show support for students from this area.
...will you please edit the thread title? I'm fairly certain there won't be any chalk talkin' going on, especially in 90 minutes.
I apologize for the confusion as the name of the event is "Chalk Talk". And I can't edit from the app so there
I think this was geared towards a specific group of people (big time $$$$) because I tried to RSVP for myself right after I got the email and they said it was already full.
