OT: The Jazzmar Watch

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

Our favorite LB prospect Jazzmar Clax has begun to draw increased national interest.

In fact, recently, Clax has been blowing up (try saying that 5 times fast) with BCS offers.

After an initial Rutgers offer, Clax has garnered new offers from Arizona State, Duke, Minnesota, Oregon State and the powerhouse Monmouth College.

If you recall, the RR staff was high on Jazzmar and the prospect of having a LB with the name "Clax" on the back of the jersey drew considerable interest.  Of course, we are happy with our LBs.  But no harm is keeping tabs on an MGoBlog favorite.

My only hope is that ND doesn't offer.  This kid deserves having his name on the back of a jersey.

Am I justified in my concern that if we really would take a fifth or as some are saying sixth(!) linebacker, it would hurt us longterm.

They are all being recruited being told by the staff, "You got a shot at early playing time." Five/Six LB's are gonna have a tough time all getting early playing time all at once.

Seems like it could be a set up for failure?

Mario won't be a LB at UM, I know he is LB sized, but he's been playing DE and even DT at Farmington Hills and that's the position he's better at.

You can think of Brandon Graham, he had the weight to play DE (both SDE and Rush DE IMO) but he hadn't the height, it didn't matter that he was 6'1" (way undersized to be a DE).

And you can also think of Craigh Roh, when he arrived at UM he was too skinny to play DE but he played at DE anyways (perhaps because we didn't had enough depth and he should have redshirted, good news is that UM has enough depth this time so MO will redshirt if needed, he could also reach Roh's freshman measurements by the time he enrolls at UM= 6'5" 230ish)

At 6'5" 250ish Roh has the size to be a monster SAM or MLB perhaps, but he doesn't have the skillset and we already saw what happened when Gerg tried to use him as a LB, at college level ability is way more important than size....

you could think about the fact that he has a good 8 months to year and a half until he steps foot on campus, with another 1-2 years until he touches the field... think thats plenty of time to put on some positive weight.

If my college days are any indicaiton, he can put on 30 lbs his first year easy.
