T- Rich cancelling the Press Conference. Can't be good news, but we'll see.

Mod Edit: I can't remember peoples' nicknames. It's probably because I'm an idiot and don't really follow recruiting. [zl]

For as long as you continue to confidently exclaim he's going to Alabama without any supporting evidence and contrary to what pretty much every analyst says, absolutely.

But we're the ones who create the environment that blows these commitments out of proportion.  This is the cross-section of a multi-billion dollar industry and a kid choosing where he wants to go to college.  Bill Gates didn't compete with F. Lee Bailey for my services coming out of high school, and I didn't have a recruiting profile on the internet.  These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and 17-year-olds are immature* and indecisive. They are also going through this process for the first time.

We give these kids a HUGE megaphone, whether or not they are ready for it.  And for a big-time player at a school like Cass Tech, we essentially insist that he use that megaphone. So while I understand the frustration, I also refuse to be surprised when occasionally these recruits show their age by waffling.

*I'm NOT calling Richardson "immature" in the Terrell Owens sense.  I'm calling him (and other recruits) immature in the "not very old and experienced in the ways of the universe" sense.

I totally agree that the recruiting game is blown completely out of proportion. Personally, I don't think schools should give student-athletes a microphone to make these announcements. Earning a Big 10 scholarship, regardless of how talented a person is, is a great accomplishment that speaks to a solid work ethic. However, in a school district that is excited about its high school dropout rate plummeting to only 19%(!), it may be better to focus on students whose academic achievements have made them successful.

I had a good friend do Teach for America in Detroit, and every single kid in his class wanted to be either a rapper or basketball player when they grew up. That speaks to a lot of things, but it sucks no matter how you look at it.

Thank you for clarifying. I admit I have no idea why he's delaying the press conference, but based on everything that has been said about him the last week, i.e. he's playing around with the media a la DeAnthony Arnett, it doesn't sound like he's being noble about this whole process. Yeah he's 17 and immature if that's the case, but you didn't see any of our other recruits mess around like this.

A lot of 18 year olds have announced today which party they will be attending this weekend.

By Thursday it could change.

Come Friday it might change again.

Let the process unfold, don't judge.  Better to wait until sure than to decide, announce, redecide, reannounce and then maybe change again.

How many times has he cancelled/changed his announcement so far? I know at least twice, and maybe more. Has he cancelled any visits either? Obviously this is one of the biggest decisions of his life, so he should take his time, [deleted content]

Mod Edit: No politics. Don't even mention the names. [zl]

he played a fast one on RJS.

This time, he's playing everybody. He'll be announcing tomorrow.

Or maybe he's waiting until May 21, 2011 to see if the world really ends! It would be no point to commit if it did /s

HAHA!!! Ed Orgeron told him to wait until he can get the kid out to LA, take him to Manahattan beach with the sand and girls, then take him to Beverly Hills and walk him down Rodeo Drive before going to a Dodger game and hanging with Shitzeneggar, Bush and Odoms and an entourage of hot girls in Hollywood.

If he really wants to go blue he shouldn't stall. Especially at the rate people are committing to us. We might get three DBs to committ by tomorrow. Then it's see ya!

This is one of those times where the difference in outcome between inserting "then" and inserting "than" is vast. Something tells me you didn't want your sentence to take the form "I want a minorly annoying thing to befall Michigan fans followed by a much worse thing or an example of a prospective player feeling like the coaches are being douchey."

Did the coaches know something we don't, when they threw an offer out to Allen Gant. They orginally told him to camp to get an offer and now he gets an offer two days before richardson was suppossed to announce. Now we hear that that the announcement has changed.

Very keen to hear the premise of all this and its implications -- hopefully nothing more than an 17 year old high school student basking in the attention (perhaps rightfully so, but before he is broken down and humbled). However, they do come in all varieties - such as Joe Bolden who took a trip to Ann Arbor only to commit in person with a gentleman's handshake.
