ESPN Rumors: Burbridge More Comfortable with UM Coaches

Submitted by ryebreadboy on
ESPN Rumors had a post on Burbridge today indicating basically, that Ojemudia and Funchess are trying to sell him on Michigan (no real surprise), and that he's down to Michigan vs. MSU (also, no surprise).
What I found interesting was that he said this to SpartanMag's Paul Day:
Right now I feel kind of more comfortable with the [UM] coaches than I do at State.

Maybe not breaking news, but I think it goes back to what every recruit's been saying about the coaching staff, and the feeling of family in AA. They note that he still considers himself a Spartan fan, but it's clear that the coaches have made a great impression that could (hopefully) translate into a committment. After all, you can be a Spartan fan every other week of the year.

this comment says a ton about how Hoke does his business...Hokefully this translates outside Michigan and Ohio...there are huge targets that now I'm optimistic about for no other reason than this kind of info.  Recruiting is going on 24/7 in A squared with playing time front and center.

Based on ESPN Rumors' recent performance, I was afraid it was going to be something like, "Michigan wide receiver Roy Roundtree was eaten by a pack of wolves today. He will be missed. On the bright side, this could be great news for their hopes to land prized recruit Aaron Burbridge"

I'm trying to think reasons why any WR commit would choose MSU over UM.

The only reasons I can consider are that maybe he'd get earlier playing time at MSU and would prefer the campus life and style that East Lansing offers.

He'd have better QBs throwing to him here.  Devin Gardner and Shane Morris have to be better than Andrew Maxwell (a 3-star, IIRC) and Peter Badovinac (can't find much info on him).

Could he get earlier playing time there?  I wouldn't imagine so.

Their reasoning for this is hilarious. They've produced a few above average receivers and think that being a Spartan receiver makes you a lock for the NFL. The fact of the matter is that we've got better degrees to offer, we have two of his best friends in the fold, and we've churned out more professional receivers than Sparty could ever dream of. Burning couches isn't that appealing, and Burbridge is realizing it.

I mean this in only a half-joking way, but who would possibly feel more comfortable around the stone-faced, humorless Dantonio than the jovial, enthusiastic Hoke?

Yesterday there was a post re: a Sam Webb article about Washington and Stanford. Something was said about our chances of stealing the pair from tsio. Then people threw in what if Wormley wants to commit? My question is if Washington and Stanford want to commit and Burbridge gets academically eligible and wants to commit. What do we do? Washington so far is the third ranked DE. You don't want to pass on that kind of talent. I personally think that Burbridge is something special as well and would love to have him. Do we make room for him?

It's counterintuitive to think that receiver is a big need because we have 12 total right now.  If class size weren't a concern I'd take 2-3 WRs, not including Funchess.  By the time they arrive there may only be 3 non-slots (and 2 slots) on the roster (if Williamson transfers), with JJ Stokes being a Senior.

love to have him in the class but like others have said until he gets a *for sure* qualified status I wont get my hopes up.

Bein' that he has an entire year to get moving I would assume he will end up Blue.
