TomVH: Ondre Pipkins to Narrow His List in June

Submitted by TomVH on

Defensive tackle Ondre Pipkins (6'3", 325 lbs) may currently live in Missouri, but he still has a soft spot for his old hometown teams in Michigan. Pipkins has seen his recruitment take off with offers from Michigan, Iowa, MSU, and Tennessee to name a few. He's still taking things day by day, but here's a look at his combine film and where he's at in the process.

TOM: Have you heard from the Michigan coaches recently?

ONDRE: Yes, they came out to my school [Monday].

TOM: Was it for an academic evaluation, or did they watch you practice?

ONDRE: They saw me lift as well as my grade evaluation.

TOM: I know you've said before that you're going to try to visit Ann Arbor, have you set anything up or do you know the date yet?

ONDRE: Yeah, I'm going down there in June. I'm not going to camp, I'm just visiting.

TOM: I know it's still early for you, but where do you think Michigan stands in all this for you?

ONDRE: They're a school I really like, that's home for me. I have a great relationship with the coaches. Coach Heck[linksi] is my recruiter and he's serious about winning. They all really want to win.

TOM: Do you know when you're going to narrow down your list yet?

ONDRE: Yeah, I'll narrow it down to a top five in June sometime. So it's getting real close. Besides Michigan I don't know who else will be in it yet.

TOM: Will those schools that make the top five be the schools that you take official visits to?

ONDRE: Yes, and I'll probably make my decision after my season. I don't mind waiting that long, it doesn't get annoying if you can manage it and prioritize things the right way.

I saw this kid play freshman basketball at Rochester Adams.  He was an absolute beast.  He was huge but could run, and had some athleticism.  Would be a nice pick up.

O'Brien is an animal in that video!  He is so quick off the ball and seems to have many moves in his arsenal.  How the hell did Tennessee get in so good with him!?

He looks like a beast ... but some of those OL looked  really small.

That being said, he handled most of the bigger boys too.

Whenever you're ready Ondre we'd be happy to have you

I played against this kid when he was a freshman at Rochester Adams, as a matter of fact I played guard and was faced with the challenge of blocking him. After a play which I by some miracle removed him from the hole he picked me up and threw me to the ground. Never gonna forget that game

im sorry, but honestly who cares? a kid is going to narrow his list in over a month and this is news? i know its down time but i think this exemplifies the whole ridiculous-ness of following recruiting.  let me know who might pick michigan a couple days before he's going to decide, this is way over the top

Since when is a TomVH interview with a big time recruit with serious interest in Michigan ridiculous? He is providing insight into the thought process of a big time recruit who is strongly considering coming here. It's not like he is facebook stalking the kid.

I think he will open up to Michigan.  When I think of childhood favorite I think easy get.  What else?  I also think it is thrown around too often.  Why would a player who is offered by his childhood favorite not comit?  I have no clue.

Sure, he'll struggle a bit against talented upperclass OLs who have similar physical attributes, but against everybody else he's going to be a difference maker as a freshman. If lightning strikes and he ends up at Michigan, he'll be part of more than one conference championship.

this summer.  He was just named to the Army gameYou had mentioned him in February when Ferrigno was out to Oregon to visit his school.  It looks like he is taking some trips to USC and UCLA to see if he could get some offers.  I'm wondering if there is still some west coast inertia in the staff seeing as how many were focused in that direction only four months ago.

Thanks for this Pipkins update.  DT is huge this year for the D.
