ND-UMD is underway.  1-1 early.  Gary Thorne (ugh) and Barry Melrose (double ugh) on the call.

but I would love to have Gary Thorne calling NHL playoffs again. Even though him and Bill Clement were Avs lovers I still prefer them. Barry Melrose was cool for a while (until he became a Red Wings hater) but I would trade him for Mickey Redmond every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You are obviously c complete dork and tool.

Gary Thorne is the best hockey announcer on the planet and has been for some time. Melrose? What's your beef with him?

I mean, besides the fact that being on a Michigan blog you act like you have to hate everybody.

Melrose knows nothing about college hockey and you can tell.  I don't think he knows much about NHL hockey either, but whatever.

Jim Hughson, Dave Strader, and senile Bob Cole are all better than Thorne.  Back when Cole had all his faculties (up to about 4/5 years ago) he was the best in the world, by a huge margin.

Dork and tool in one sentence by golly!

Melrose reminds me of the dudes that used to chase us 19yr olds out of Windsor bars and tell us to get back over the river, eh.

Why the hate for Gary Thorne? I did pbp of M hockey for student radio about 10 years ago and did a couple of Frozen Fours, and, in watching/listening to various pbp guys to try to get better, I felt like, as far as the mechanics of actually calling a game, there was no one better than Thorne. There are other very good guys, too, obviously. I just thought, as a play-by-play guy, Thorne was/is pretty damn good.

Gary Thorne is great at hockey, and Melrose isn't too bad. I do like them calling games, and I can't wait to hear them call the Meeechigan game tonight.

Thought, the best PBP guys are Harry Neal and Bob Cole together.

Too bad. My non-Michigan friends that care about hockey are all ND fans. I'd love to see M drub ND in the national championship game.

From everything I've heard about UND (NTUND) we need to stay out of the box, so if everything is getting called, that's bad for us. Especially since this isn't a random game before, the referees are all together with the same supervisors in the locker room.

Any time ND fails to make the championship game is a good time, because their fans' egos get inflated when they make it to the finals.  Also, you should find new non-Michigan friends.  I hear IU fans are cuddly and harmless now that they have the fourth-best basketball program in the State of Indiana.

To get back on topic, they need to go back to Pee Wee and learn to NOT FUCKING CLEAR THE ZONE UP THE MIDDLE. They've almost gotten burned twice, and that flip wasn't exactly awe-inspiring either.

Im actually cheering for ND here because that's just how annoying I find WCHA fans. I won't be able to stand it if I have to hear about the all-WCHA final.

Then again, the WCHA-sweep would be so awesome. That would be ammunition for eternity

MICH +220

ND -1.5 goals +140

Pardon a dumb question from someone who has never gambled legally.  I know this means we are supposed to lose, and I deduce that it should be by less than 1.5 goals.  Is there any more information packed in that?
