OT -- Name of the Year Blog 2011 bracket released (finally)

Submitted by Sommy on

Many of you may not care, but some of you may remember the epic faceoff between former UM student Iris Macadangdang (with whom I had Spanish 232, FWIW) and LSU recruit Barkevious Mingo in the finals of several years ago.

The bracket is officially out, and there are some truly epic names out there, including my suggestion of No. 13 seed Neptune Pringle III, a composer from the New York area, I believe.

Im calling Leviticus Payne in the upset over 4 seed Mercedes Bunz.

Also: Stonegarden Grindlife? Shalom Dreampeace Compost? This is the funniest thing ive seen in a while.

Jihad Larry sounds like a terrible wrestler name.

My Final Four:

Shalom Dreamplace Compost, Delorean Blow, Taco B.M. Monster, and Yu Arafuka. Also a fan of Col. Many-Bears Grinder

If it makes you feel better, the bracket has since been updated by the NOTY high committee out of sensitivity to the Jihad Larry situation.  Jihad Larry has since been replaced by another candidate.

Basil Smotherman is a 2013 target for the basketball team out of Indiana. I know he's well thought of, but past that I have no information on him. I like to think that he's a shut down defender with a name like smotherman.

Monquarius Mungo

Delorean Blow

RexAchilles Imperial

LA'Peaches Pitts

The names can't be too ridiculous or they aren't as funny to me.

Rockwell Bonecutter

Solo Alone

Orel Oral

Rev. Monster Box

Going to be a close match with Solo Alone vs. Yolanda Supersad, but I give Solo Alone the slight edge to win.

Honorable mention to Philander Moore.

Solo Alone is also a good one.  I imagine beatniks snapping their fingers and contemplating the poetic nature and melancholy of his (her?) existence.

Not in the pool, but there was a hockey player in the OHL a while back his name was Robin Bigsnake. And a hof NHL player named Dit Clapper, that was always my fave.

Courvosier Winetavius Richardson

Chuntania Dangerfield

Margarita Villa

Monsterville Horton IV

although I could have second thoughts and go for Philander Moore or Solo Alone at the last minute of filling in the brackets...

I've also got Monsterville in the final 4, along with Shalom, Delorean, and Neptune

A few notes:

How the hell is Lola Porch a 3 seed?

Joe Shortsleeve and Monty Hardware are certified badass's

The Dragonwagon region is going to be gruesome

Joe Shortsleeve is much classier than his cousin, Joe Wifebeater.

After performing quite well for the Norwegian Olympic hockey team, I'm rooting for Tore Vikingstad, but Stonegarden Grindlife is going to be a tough out from that region. Aside from Stonegarden, these are really weak #1 seeds in my opinion. My prediction is Stonegarden Grindlife, Margarita Villa, Flamur Kastrati, and Col. Many-Bears Grinder, with Stonegarden grinding out the win over Many-Bears for the title.
