I need about 5 more minutes of this.
That's what she said.

I know they were probably not supposed to tackle, but seriously, the tackling makes me ill.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:02 AM ^
I know Urban Meyer is probably not supposed to be our new head coach, but seriously, Urban Meyer as our new head coach makes me ill..................................
March 30th, 2011 at 12:06 AM ^
I know they were probably not supposed to run the kickoff returns all the way, but seriously, only running a kick off for 20 yards and then stopping for no reason makes me ill. We are screwed next year if that's the new strategy.

Obviously you have never run the button hook around the tree at Thanksgiving or the fake run into the tree and hand off to the 8 year old for the TD while everyone asks if you are okay. It's a revolution.

Odoms and Stonum returning? Thank. You. So. Much.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
Catch the damn ball... oh wait they did, Good job returners!
March 30th, 2011 at 12:18 AM ^
My heart can't take another season full of muffed punts.
You know it's bad when you cringe every time the other team kicks off / punts and whisper to yourself (and/or scream loudly) "please catch the ball!" That was my life last year.
He said "Muff".

CoolBlue, you might just have he best avatar...ever!
Yummy? That is disgusting. I now imagine you as a 60 year old pedophile who sits in the window watching children, all the while thinking to himself "yummy". Gross dude, gross.

So I learned Mike Martin was driving with his right foot in front when he should have been using his left. Does this mean I can be a football coach now?
March 30th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
it looked like he was telling him to take short steps and stay square looking for the play - is that it? Whatever it was - I think Martin thought he did it.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:35 AM ^
I don't know I just figure skate. Magnus...?
March 30th, 2011 at 12:12 AM ^

Seeing Devin Gardner call that audible under center reminds me of the Hennedance and how much i miss it.

Either Smith and Toussaint are super awesome or our tackling looks scarily the same
I think its just a way of tackling but not fully tackling. If you watch the film, the runner gets swarmed and essentially stopped before the runner is let go and continues to run. I think it's to teach the runner to never give up, while not hurting him, and allowing the defenders to tackle without full blown laying someone out due to our lack of depth. Or at least that's what I thought was going on because it is what I've seen in each of the videos so far.
I think the coaches have institued a "catch and release" policy for tackling in spring practice.
This has been a common occurence during all of the vids we have seen so far: defenders swarm to carrier, ball carrier's progress stopped for 1-2 seconds, ball carrier "squirts free" and runs unfettered for an 80-yard TD. Lather, rinse, repeat.
So you are telling me Vincent Smith didn't break 14 tackles on his way to a TD? I thought Wellman had been working miracles already. Damn.
March 30th, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
Please don't use "Catch and release" with regards to Michigan football, this isn't State.
The video starts off by showing the team stretching.
Just a coincidence? Another subtle jab at Rich Rod?
Is it telling?
I think you're stretching a little there.
That's like playing "just the tip". I need more than that to get my fix.
Can anyone tell me what drill Roundtree is doing in that video. He was running with Cameron Gordon so I'm guessing that it is not an offense only drill.
It looked to me like a special teams drill, where they retreat before blocking. I have a hard time believing that Roundtree will be used as a blocker on special teams, but I guess everybody has to go through the same drills.
It looked to me like a scramble drill, as Roundtree comes back to the QB he flashes his hands.
March 30th, 2011 at 10:47 AM ^
I don't know why Cam Gordon would be running a scramble drill, though.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:24 PM ^
The are still just getting started. Maybe he said to them, "Coach, I'd like a little practice time at WR to show you what I can do. Or alternately, they may be teaching the defense to be WR's shadows, rather than 10 yard off.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
...looked to me like they were closed and the elbow posture seemed to me to indicate blocking more than catching a pass.
no Spring Practice video would be complete without Coach Hoke pointing!
Nice to see Odoms out there.
I'm hoping to make it up for a practice this week. I want to see their defensive drills.
The public is allowed at practices?
Here's 2 more minutes of video from the Detroit news, in case you need to finish up
March 30th, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
Thanks for the video.
Hoke is all over the place in this video, even spending some time with Hagerup on punts. I also like Coach Mallory's intensity at the end of the video.
Also Maguns, I think you were correct about Roundtree running some special teams, it seems like he is doing some in this video as well.
Brady Hoke vs Tony Soprano. No guns. Who wins?
Denard and Devin are starting to look like video game QB's. This is a good thing.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
Trick question. Hoke is Tony Soprano.
For the love of god tell me the defense wasn't allowed to tackle the running back. If not, goodness...
What's the song in the video? It's epic.
Didn't sound like Faith No More. And stop trying to answer your own questions.
March 30th, 2011 at 10:58 AM ^
No song can come close to "out-epic-ing" a Brady Hoke point during spring ball stretching!
March 30th, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
By some of the comments I read in here, some of you have no clue what spring practice and conditioning are all about. This is the time where they learn technique and the drills that will be ran for summer workouts. They are NOT supposed to tackle, just swarm to the ball and the coaches are looking to see if they are in the right position to make the play. Relax.

I'm almost certain that's #64. He's getting destroyed by BWC (which, nice BWC), but it's fantastic that he's even on the field. I thought he was being held out for now?
March 30th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
It must be him, although yeah, he has missed some time due to injury. Khoury is the #2 center, so I guess they're working Pace in there where they can.
March 30th, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
I don't know enough to say one way or the other, but I find myself liking the way T. Gordon plays and moves on the field. Although he really bit on that counter/fake didn't he (unless that was a broken play)?
BWC is really giving Burzynski hell on that second play as well, which he should. Burzynki's a little bit shorter, and his primary goal is be the low man and survive, so it looks like Campbell stands up a bit. But looking at it again (about 50 times), he launches low. Really overpowers him.
Khoury puts a nice pop on Ash. CC comes in late not looking to hit anyone (!)
I need to 2 more plays today to overanalyze.
March 30th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Black has been Roh's backup at WDE.
I like the way Will Campbell looks this year. It seems like the light might be turning on.
I really liked Thomas Gordon at Spur last year, but he's supposedly playing FS this year, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. He's a good athlete and tackler, but I don't know how he is as a centerfielder.
