TomVH: 2013 QB Shane Morris Offered
Warren De La Salle QB Shane Morris (6'3", 183 lbs) was offered by Michigan this morning. You can check out his sophomore highlights here. He's in the 2013 class so this is way early, but he already has verbal offers from Michigan, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, and Toledo. He's supposed to be one of, if not the top prospects in Michigan next year.
The offer came this morning. We called Coach Jackson and talked to him and Coach Borges. They said that they'd love for me to be the quarterback at Michigan, and that they want me to come there.
Morris was up for the Tom Lemming photo shoot on Saturday and also got to take in practice.
I had to leave early, but I got to watch practice. Everything looked good. I actually saw a lot, I went to practice last year and everything is a lot different. It's real upbeat and it's more of the traditional Big Ten football, which is good. I'm going out to MSU's spring practice on Friday, and I'll sit down with Coach Dantonio. I've also been talking to a coach from Stanford.
It's too early to even talk about decisions or timelines with him but Shane is just trying to take everything in for now.
I'm just staying humble, and I'm not satisfied with everything. I want to keep getting better. I'm really keeping my mind open to see where I fall in love. I don't want to say I'm a pro style quarterback because I can run too. Michigan is running a lot of stuff under center, but keeping some of the other stuff from last year which is the best of both worlds really. My dad is a football coach and that's the offense he likes to run too.
I should also point out that Morris and his family are all Michigan fans.
I'm good with anybody named Morris. Darius. Zack. Philip. Anybody.
Let's get him!
Day?
The Time...
Nice Nice! that's all good with me. Jack especially. Jamie. Of course.
I'll also take Morrison. Jim. Brendan.
Morrissey? For Brian.
Even me?
- BAM.
I hope he's not finicky.
Jamie?
Sounds good to me. Not to change the subject, but I like what he said about our offensive diversity. Best of both worlds. Hope that is actually true.
I like hearing that as well. I'm very optimistic about how our offense is going to look this year.
What in the hell is "diversity?"
It's that thing where you don't run the same damn zone stretch play 30 times a game, or the same damn QB lead draw 30 times a game.
Ahh.. I see. I was under the impression it was an old, old wooden ship used during the civil war era.
I thought it was spanish for "a whale's vagina."
Diversity is an old wooden ship.
It's nice for our head coach to finally be able to offer this far in advance. Hopefully this young man will get to learn under Gardner and Pike.
The Mighty Mighty Pilots
Need to re-establish that Warren DLS pipeline from the Allan Jefferson days.
I am all for opening up the pipeline, but there have been very few high D1 prospects to come out of DLS between AJ in '86 and today. hard to create a pipeline on a kid every 25 years...
Still, hard not to think this one may be in the bag as long as we don't F it up.
You watch your tongue. The 'ole number 1-0 from the class of 92 was one hell of a QB.
Tony Boles and Torin Dorn all graduate saem year as AJ? I think Dorn went to UCLA. What astable we had that year. i thinkit was Boles, Jefferson, Hoard, Tracy Williams and I beleive J.Bunch?
that when you have a kid who should be disposed to play for Michigan, and you think he has the talent to play there, you get on him early, make him feel good about the school, and stay on him for the duration. I look forward to the day in a year or two when Michigan's reputation has been re-established and we have half the class locked up early instead of scrambling at the end to fill spots.
I've always liked that. Congratulations kid.
Please leave your laptop at home when visiting MSU
Or properly lock it up.
This is the QB I want more than any other out there. Unbelievable, ever since I saw his sophomore film. I sort of feel bad, like I'm turning into an SEC fan, because of my interest in this kid coming to Michigan...
Morris has the tools to be one of the best quarterbacks in the 2013 class. It's good to get in on him early.
A south paw
We'd have time to start beefing up the right tackle spot too I suppose.
against Devin and Inkster in the state semi game in 2009. I didn't know he was a freshman while watching the game but thought he had a good arm and was good in the pocket. Then somebody told me he was 14 years old. I'll be sure to hit a few of his games this fall.
DLS is my alma mater.
This news is awesome. Go Pilots.
What year did you graduate, I also graduated from DLS

Class of '07. We should've beat Muskegon in the title game if it wasn't for the fumble at the 2 yard line *sad*

I graduated in '08 from La Salle. This would be awesome to see...apparently the kid is special
I graduated from DLS in '06.
I really hope he goes Blue.
Holy poop I'm feeling old right now. Class of '98. Go Pilots.
You feel old? Class of '85 here.

La Salle!!
My football team played against De La Salle my freshman year of high school. They were up 42-0 by halftime before they put on the brakes for a 50-0 win. They were so much bigger, it was ridiculous.
I like him. Sign him up, coach!
The kid looks damn good for a sophomore.
I hate to be the blind optimist, and it's way premature, but what if we get an elite QB (like Pike) and this kid? Not too bad...
Yes, that is very optimistic of you. However, even the realist approach is quite positive - if we don't get an elite QB in this class, we have an even better shot at snagging the elite QB in our backyard.
If Morris sees that in the two classes ahead of him UM signed a 3 star QB, he'll be even more likely to jump on board, knowing he has a very good shot at being a multi-year starter for the home team.

I like the jump for a touchdown at 1:18. Shows he can play MANBALL

He should be back up to Michigan soon, potentially this weekend. This was a really good offer.
Weird that we're offering guys now who won't set foot on campus until after Denard and his class are already gone.
watched his highlights and he seems to throw effortlessly and with great touch. his deep ball seems to glide pretty well too, and as a soph in hs throwing the football is as much about natural talent as it is taught talent. i think as a thrower he will only get better and stronger.
only critique is in the highlights (havent seen him run..just in highlight film) his runs were not very impressive, but moving away from a running qb he seems to fit exactly what M should be looking for. hopefully he stays in state and plays in AA, wish him luck his final 2 years.
