OT: On the Adidas/Nike Issue
It's clothes, people. Friggin... AHG! Nike makes clothes. Adidas makes clothes. I have never had an article of clothing from either of these companies fail to meet the requirements to which I held it, which were, "Cover my ugly body up." The jerseys are Maize and Blue in either case. The designs are acceptable in either case. The corporate logos are secondary in size and location to the rest of the design in either case. Wearing one or the other brand is not going to cause our teams to perform any better, nor make your fat ass any more attractive when you wear the year's latest sideline polo.
To sum up: Nobody cares what you think about clothing manufacturers, and I'm tired of having it interjected into the middle of half the threads I open.

I care
March 24th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Did you say thread?
March 24th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
I think I honestly might prefer this option.
They worked for Walter Payton.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
You can keep all kindsa things in that pocket. Handy!
March 24th, 2011 at 11:36 PM ^
I loved Roos as a kid. I always got the high-tops. I thought they made me cool, but they didn't because I wasn't cool. Oh well.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
I wont buy anything Adidas. I will buy everything Nike. SImple. I even will put a block M on my Nike hat. People stop me in the street to ask about it,
March 24th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
WE DON'T CARE. This is a board for Michigan sports, not your wardrobe preference. Would you let us know if you preferrred Gucci to Louis Vitton?
March 24th, 2011 at 10:53 PM ^
gotta be gucci mane
March 24th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
Sticky side down bro.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
Come on you should know that, it's probably on your hand bag. Kidding, but you do raise a good point. It just seems the players want Nike.
gotta go with bold colors
March 24th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
I love the adidas gear. I am so glad we don't have nike and have to worry about michigan wearing that pro combat shit or the throwback garbage that osu brings out for the michigan game, which btw takes away from the atmosphere of the game in my opinion.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
I think the blowout score year after year took away more of the atmosphere than the unis.
March 25th, 2011 at 12:55 AM ^
I lol'ed
They dont make the pro combat jerseys for every team. Penn State, USC, and other traditional teams dont get them so I think its more up to the school plus at least Nike continuously updates their stuff
March 25th, 2011 at 10:24 AM ^
They made them for Penn State and they said no thanks. IIRC a part of the reason switching to Adidas besides the money was Nike wanted full control of the unis.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
I have both Nike and Adidas gear. I don't have anything against Adidas, but I do think that our uni's materials look cheaper than the Nike ones (example: the up-and-down curves running across the numbers for the first 2 years with Adidas). I also think Adidas hasn't done a good job of modernizing their equipment to the extent that Nike has. Nike is always coming out with titanium belt-buckles and specialized "bubble-pads." Little things like that are enjoyed by the players and recruits (not too mention advertised weight reduction and increased mobility). When they finally rolled out with the new jerseys players complained they were way too tight... so adidas' R&D Team screwed that up.
This week they are trying on a new pant... so maybe it's a sign of things to come. I do hope they get the new "Fit" jerseys to actually fit correctly. And I would like to see a white pant away alternate, but thats probably up to the coaches.
March 24th, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^
But I was amazed that our football players apparently chanted, "Nike, Nike, Nike!" at the conclusion of their meeting with Athletic Director Brandon concerning the coaching change. I've never heard of such a thing in our football program.
It doesn't matter one bit to me, what brand of golf shirts I might wear. Personally, I always sort of preferred Nike apparel and adidas shoes. Nike sure had some explaining to do about its weird cleat design that it brought out for some of the bowl games. But no matter what, our football players deserve a hearing, and I'd like to know what that whole thing was all about. And if our guys are complaining, I hope that Dave Brandon hauls some adidas big shots on to the carpet at 1000 S. State and tells them what our guys want.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
I was going to bring this up, about the players chanting Nike. Most of us don't care, but players and recruits care. I doubt it would make or break a recruit's decision to go to one school or another but when Nike schools get special edition jerseys it definitely puts them in the spotlight and makes that school look cooler and more appealing
March 24th, 2011 at 11:22 PM ^
Fuck special edition jerseys. WE'RE MICHIGAN, we don't need no stupid special edition jerseys. And anyway, all the Nike combat crap last season looked terrible.

As a runner I refuse to touch Nike. Nike's running shoes are pieces of crap. Since high school I have yet to run in a pair of nike's which did not lead to a future ligament or stress fracture injury. If I had my way Michigan would be outfitted by Asics.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
Ran XC in high school and had the same pair of Nike running shoes for 4 years, and they're just starting to hurt my feet now. Guess it somewhat comes down to luck. Can we agree that Adidas running shoes are trash?
March 24th, 2011 at 11:13 PM ^
Yes. The adidastar series is perhaps the worst shoe ever made.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:15 PM ^
Their basketball shoes suck too. Was forced to wear those as a "team-picked" shoe two times in high school. Both times they were falling apart by the end of the season.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
I ran xc, track and now marathons after high school. I have tried Brooks, Asics, Mizuno, and addidas. Every time I end injured ironically I was running in nikes. My first stress fracture was in frees. My tendinitis always creeps up if I wear Nike zoom max's. All of my best training and races come when I am running Asics gel ds's.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:54 PM ^
Ever think that people have different feet and running styles from you?
March 25th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
I dont know that this was necessary, he wasn't attacking anybody or enforcing his e-pinion on everybody...he was actually very respectful.
March 25th, 2011 at 12:32 AM ^
NOOO?!?!?! Really? You mean every human body is physiologically different? Wow! You better publish that theory. A nobel prize in medicine is guaranteed.
Soo true. Asics are amazingly comfortable for running. Nike does make great football cleats and gloves though. The vapors were the best cleats I ever owned
March 24th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
Everyone with a preference get yourcrap out here so it won't infest the rest of the board!
March 24th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
Personally, I don't care about the whole Nike v. Adidas debate. But it's pretty arrogant and dickish to make a thread berating people into not bringing something up because you don't care about it.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
Make a thread about it. New unis? Discuss it there.
But when I open a practice video thread, somebody notices white pants, and suddenly the next ten posts are bitching about Adidas, that's thread hijacking and it's not even funny. Just annoying bitching.
When we're debating the basketball team, and somebody says the yellow in the jersey isn't right, that's fine. Just don't say, the yellow in the jersey isn't right, "and it's all Adidas fault and rargh", to which the next reply will be, "But Nike blah blah Pro-Combat blah blah shut up". The thread was about the basketball team. Not about choices of suppliers in a capitalist economy.
March 25th, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
Pretty sure zero people have made that argument and actually meant it.

March 24th, 2011 at 11:09 PM ^
Without Adidas, we might not have had that sweet throwback jersey at the Big Chill.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:15 PM ^
Finally got my throwback jersey on tuesday but had to send it back for a smaller size the XL was huge hope the replacement large comes soon and fits better. Can't wait to sport that thing.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
Word. I think my big chill jersey is bad luck. I got it in Friday before the western game. I wore it to the game and western ends up crushing us. I am not wearing that jersey again for the rest of the season.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:12 PM ^
College Football's most lucrative athletic sponsorhip. Maybe everyone who is clamoring for a change can start pooling some $$$ together to make up the difference if Michigan goes back to Nike!
March 24th, 2011 at 11:14 PM ^
Any idea how long Michigan's contract with Adidas lasts?
March 24th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
I do like under armour apparel. Maybe we could all compromise and switch to ua?
March 24th, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
What are we, British? Or worse, Canadians? No, I say no to Under Armour until they learn to spell like AMERICANS.
March 25th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
no thanks. the under armour name carries with it the shame of thousands of grade schoolers wearing compression shirts like they're t-shirts. i guess it's just their way of letting people know that they are atheletes even if they don't look like atheletes.
March 24th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
I think it runs to 2015
