Spring practice means more to young guys than it does to established seniors.  Even in the second year of a new coach's system.  It reminds me of when my brother in law got in trouble messing around on his wave runner.  He went to court in october and they punished him by prohibiting him from riding his wave runner for six months.  Oooooohhhh nooooooooo.  His suspension will be over before the real deal starts up late this summer.

hahahahahahhahahahaha  Must be why he turned down a press conference to announce he was coming back to ND this year, just feeding that ego of his.  If you want to get an idea of what he is like go listen to an interview on und.com

Because if there was an interview that proved that he was egotistical or otherwise cast him in a negative light, the school's official athletics website would surely be the place to find it.

(I'm not offering any assessment on his character or ego here.  Just noting the silliness of your comment.  I've seen enough of your posts to know that you're not that naive.)

I understand your point but off the top of your head where do you know you can find a media video interview with floyd?  And the majority of interviews that und.com posts are the full media interviews, not some rehearsed fluff thing, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's one or two of those on there as well.

I'm willing to bet he misses no game time this fall.  As far as ND's "standards of conduct", the only school I've ever seen back up a standards/honor code regarding student-athletes in the last 15 years is BYU.  No way the high and mighty domers let something as trivial as driving while blindly drunk and endangering lives get in the way of winning some games this fall.

His main punishment will be handed down by reslife, which will take their time and do whatever they want to do.  He has the same chance as being suspended for a semester as missing one game as missing multiple games, as ending up in the supplemental draft. Kelly doesn't decide this, the AD doesn't decide this, Reslife does

The indefinite suspension is temporary, his real punishment will come after reslife makes their decision.  I would rather they don't make a rash decision, but they needed to respond with something and that is fair at this point.

As much as ND is a rival, I actually somewhat respect their integrity, on an overall basis.  I expect that ND will do the right thing and suspend him for a few games (hopefully, 2 games or more, to be precise).

Note that I do not have the same confidence in Kelly.  I am not saying that he does NOT have integrity - just that I don't know one way or the other, as he is a relatively young HC.

Holding a player out of one seasonal practice (spring, fall) or one game is basically the standard level of punishment for a DUI in college football.

Ohio State and Michigan State stand out as the schools that fall below the NCAA standard for punishing DUIs. Wisconsin let a guy off (but he was driving a golf cart). Other Big Ten teams (Minnesota is the exempli gratia) tend to give 2-game or 2-practice season suspensions. This was exactly Kevin Grady's punishment for the same crime. So if Floyd is held out of spring and fall practices and plays in the first game of 2011, that will be basically on par with the good Big Ten teams.

I live in South Bend, and last night on the news they actually showed that on page 99 of the student handbook (or the residency code book or something like that-sorry I was tired) that a student that is arrested for a second offense like this is basically suspended from the school for a semester.  If this holds then Floyd is out for the Fall...

I apologize for any misinterpretation of what I heard last night.  If anyone else in the area heard this I would love to get some clarification or some backing on this!

I don't know how to embed the video, but here is a link that contains the news report from last night:

http://www.wndu.com/hometop/headlines/UPDATE_Notre_Dame_comments_on_football_star_Michael_Floyds_DUI_arrest.html

The statement I found most interesting:

"However, if you take a look at Notre Dame's student handbook and flip to page 99, university sanctions sealed Floyd's fate.  Bylaws state if a student drives drunk and has a prior alcohol citation, of which Floyd has two, the university must "seperate" the student for at least one semester..."

To me this means Floyd is out for the Fall term, meaning he will miss the entire season.

what's more troubling is the developing pattern of a blase air toward serious issues at ND.  I live in Chicago and the deaths of Declan Sullivan and Lizzy Seeburg and the apparent lack of accountability on the part of Kelly really bothers my Irish friends.  Hopefully, he'll take THIS incident more seriously.

You know, this is becoming an annoying meme of sorts. Every time an athlete's car is mentioned, people immediately start implying there's malfeasence going on. Now, I'm absolutely certain that there is, all around the country, free cars being "loaned" to football players, but it's crazy to assume that is always the case.

Lots of kids in my high school drove new Cadillacs, and shock of shocks, none of them were paid for by boosters or agents. It's called "they have parents who are upper class." Lots of parents buy their kids cars. Parents who don't have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition because their kid has a scholarship are in an even better financial position to buy their kids a nice car, if you think about it. And Michael Floyd, if I remember correctly, went to an expensive private Catholic high school in... Minnesota(??)... so it's probably not a stretch to think his parents have some $$.

I hate Notre Dame as much as the next guy, this is just an annoying knee-jerk reaction people on here seem to always want to go to. No offense to the person I responded to in particular intended.

Don't know Floyd's background (definitely bow to your knowledge) and freely concede his folks might be loaded.  I grew up in a solidly UMC town with many docs, GM VPs, etc., and at that time, a LONG time ago, even their kids drove meh cars.  Same went for my four years in A2, but given that was a different time, I may need to back off my grouchy thing regarding the car.  Either way, the Declan and Lizzie affairs are FAR more serious and both make me wonder about Brian Kelly's moral compass.  My ND friends have said the same thing.

Don't know how much play the other issues have gotten outside of Chicago.  They're heart breaking and really transcend whatever the story is with Michael Floyd who still can be/will be a good man if he can work through whatever issues he faces.  I believe it's Kelly's job to do whatever's necessary to make it happen.  He blew it with the other kids.

"Suspended indefinitely"  sounds like a harsh punishment, but it usually just means he'll quietly be reinstated after the story has left the news cycle.

Example of ResLife casualties?  Will Yeatman & Joseph Fauria.  One was caught with booze, the other was an unknown infraction thought to be streaking, if you can believe that.  2 stud TEs.

This suspension will not be for spring practice, like I said in the other 2 posts he will probably be gone for most if not all of next season.  This depends on ResLife, which has recently changed leadership and no one is quite sure how hard the hammer will fall.
