FWIW: Possible OSU sanctions

Submitted by whyyoumadtho on

I don't know this website and a friend sent this link to me, so I am taking this with a big grain of salt. But it's on the internet so it must be true right?

Basically the article says that OSU will be hit with the following:

  • All victories from the 2009 and 2010 season will be vacated
  • Will not be televised for the 2011 season
  • Will not be allowed to partake in post season bowl games for 2011 or 2012.
  • Will lose 10 scholarships in 2011, and 5 per year in 2012 and 2013.

Seems like too much. I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Esp, TV, there is no way. If it didnt happen to USC who basically told the NCAA FU throughout the entire process, I dont see it happening to OSU, unless there is way more to the story than we already know.

What in the world is sportales and why are they worth the time it takes me to load the page? Forgive me if I don't believe what a poster called "cybertruth" says about Ohio State football without some sort of corroboration.

Yeah, not buying it.  What does this have to do with the 2009 season?  Not televised? please, even the NCAA wants to keep their cash cow.

It's a garbage site. Proven.

The NCAA will never institute the TV ban again. And although all the other sanctions are possible, I doubt it will be as soon as 2011.

some awesome examples of theirs:

or this one which featured this:

But then came Sunday.  Sources revealed that the University of Michigan is, in fact, facing an NCAA investigation.  To make matters worse, apparently star quarterback in the making Denard Robinson, a human highlight reel in 2010 until he ran into teams that actually played defense, will apparently miss the entire 2011 season after undergoing knee surgery next week.

And I'm still waiting for Tressel to retire

The caption was too appropriate to pass up.  I loved that fat dog too.  Nice laughs for a Monday lunch break.

Edit:  What the hell is with the neg-bomb?  I know the up/down votes don't count, but I'm curious to know what I did to deserve that.

but I'll believe it when it actually happens.............I have to believe that they'll get hit with some addiitional penalty beyond the 5 game suspensions, let's hope......

1) Those penalties are NCAA penalties. NCAA hasn't even sent OSU a letter of allegations yet, which is the first step. OSU ain't going to ban themselves.

2) Even if the NCAA announces sanctions, they'll start the following season, 2012, as a lot of contractural obligations have already been set for 2011. For this to be true, NCAA would've had to hand out sanctions in like Feb timeframe.

This would be the fastest response to anything in the NCAA's history, so screw grains of salt, I'm taking a whole deer lick block of salt with this. I sure would love to see the 'no Buckeyes on TV' effectively start a riot in Ohio that would turn the whole state into a Road Warrior-like wasteland.

Do you mean if the entire ocean salt was combined into one grain because, seriously, there's no way in the tOSU would get a TV ban and they won't bother touching anything from 09.

Does anyone really think there will be any severe consequences? They were already caught last year and were STILL allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl. I have lost all faith in/respect for the NCAA. They aren't going to do anything, they're the biggest joke this side of Bud Selig.

These are completely different infractions though. Pryor and Co. were Hunt and Liddy; the catalyst for all of this falling but certainly not the worst offenders. Tressel is obviously Nixon, who lied repeatedly about his involvement in the case.

Liddy and Hunt did time, but Nixon is the one who really got hammered. These new penalties (not the ones in the OP, I don't buy that, just in general there are some type of penalties coming) are for the unethical conduct violation Tressel admits, and maybe a loss of institutional control or a failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance case.

This ain't NCAA Football 08, where a good 1/3 of the programs have schollie reductions, a good 1/4 have postseason bans, and something like 10% are banned from TV.

I doubt it.

Besides, I don't think the NCAA would take away 10 scholarships for the 2011 season.  Players have already signed Letters of Intent for next year and completed their recruitments.  If they were going to reduce scholarships, I would guess those reductions wouldn't start until 2012.

On the way to work today I was listening to NFL Morning Kick and they had Ross Homan on. They asked him about TAT5 and he said they didn't know the rules when they were FRESHMAN. So unless he slipped up about their class this may go back a few years with JUST 2009/10 TAT5 and impact the sophomore year eligibility also.

I do agree it's way too early but it's fun to watch the Buckeye nation.

If the NCAA had any balls they would vacate the wins for last year and the bowl game, get all $$ back forthe bowl game and suspend the players and Tressel from all football related activities for the season.  No practices, no contact with the team at all.

Of course none of this will happen as OSU is a sacred cow of the NCAA just like USC.  USC hasn't suffered at all.  They signed 30 players on signing day.  Where's the scholarship reduction??  Screw the appeal, by the time the NCAA gets around to enforcing the reduction in schollies they will be bowling again.

Maybe the NCAA has had it wil Trssel and the shenanigans at OSU with Clarrett, Smith and tatgate along with Tressel's crap at YSU.  Doubt it!

No matter what happens with the Bucks, their games will be always be televised.  This isn't like Sparty in the 70's when they were banned from having their games televised for 3 seasons.  (College football teams only got 2 televised games per season back then anyway).  In 2011, you can pretty much watch any team whenever you want.  Besides, what about us?  The good guys?  THE GAME has been televised every year since Nixon was in office.  ABC wouldn't dare NOT show the game.

In the meantime, you have to love how Buckeye fans continue to handle this.  The phrase, "This happens at every school" was made the norm by them back in 2003 when the Maurice Clarrett thing broke.  Now they're doing it again.

Copied and pasted from yahoo sports page:

"While the Tressel situation is unfortunate every major program has been accused and/or found guilty of some sort of infraction. This will be a distant memory in no time. Only haters like yourself will cling to it like a lifeline." ~Bilge

So, even when your coach gets busted for lying, it's O.K. to use the excuse that it happens at every school.  Good to know.

Laughable.  Anything more than vacating wins would be shocking and I'm even sure that will happen.  As for "lack of institutional control", I just don't buy them handing that down in light of the way the investigation has gone so far.  USC basically replied to the NCAA notice of allegations with "prove it" and they eventually did.  OSU has at least taken a more cooperative approach, which certainly can't hurt.   Any fan of UM or any other team hoping for sanctions even remotely close to this are setting themselves up for disappointment.
