vikings

This is not a muppets post. I'm not even sure what this is since I don't think Michigan's had a team like this most recent edition of basketball since the blog's existed, and probably not since the 1997 football team went from "M stands for mediocre" to a national championship.

Expectations this year were on the floor, like "I hope they win ten games" on the floor, and they end it watching a runner to tie the defending national champions clang off the back rim. They swept Michigan State for the first time since 1997, breached Tennessee's reactor core, reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, and didn't bother to have a senior day. A friend kept saying he just wanted to keep seeing them play basketball, and that's about right, and when's the last time you could say that about Michigan anything?

The team is hereby awarded the above image of slightly silly looking Vikings charging headlong to glory. Denouement Monday.

I've gotta say, the thing that excites me most about the next couple of years of Michigan basketball is Coach Beilein. I really believe this is a coach that can take us to the national championship. Go blue.

I can't help but think how far we would have gone had we not faced Duke in our 2nd round game. These kids are amazing. They got so close. I wouldn't be surprised to see Duke take it all and I doubt they will have a tougher opponent than the Michigan team they faced today!

Went up to Charlotte with another Michigan fan for the game and had a blast.  My voice was gone in the first half.  Was very proud of these kids, and it is hard to lose this one.  Came home and watched it on dvr...couldn't stand listening to Nantz and Kellogg, what a bunch of assholes!!!  They trashed the Fab 5, the Michigan Program, and were acting incredibly amazed that we were "still hanging around" versus mighty Duke.   Anyway, next season looks to be very promising.  Can't wait to see Brundidge and Burke...GO BLUE!!!!!!!

Duke is a final four team and our young men almost knocked them out of the tourney Today!

Beilein has done a great job coaching and developing this young team. They really blew out our expectations for this rebuilding season. I don't think this group will drop off next season. I think they will be much improved! Beilein has brought our basketball program back!

Man, I'd forgotten how much I hate Duke! It felt great to have that vitriol pumping through my veins again. I haven't felt that kind of contempt for a college basketball team since Laettner, Hurley, and Cherokee Parks were flopping around the court. Fuck Duke!

...i've never seen a michigan team max out so spectacularly.  they did it, and they did it right, by playing good defense and taking care of the ball.  they got key contributions from about ten guys at one point or another, and nobody ever became the "star" of the team.  star of the GAME, yes.  of the season, never.

i can't remember a single michigan team that i so enjoyed watching.

the best part?  we get to do it again next season, with the same great guys.

thanks, guys.  thanks.

1. Morris can get his own shot almost anytime he wants, and he's every bit the player Nolan Smith is.

2. We need more big body guys - foul eaters.

3. Nance was a jerk yesterday. Geesh, he kept going on and on about the Fab Five. He and many others heard the "uncle Tom" thing and completely ignored the context it came from.

4. This team has to be preseason top 15 next year.

5. I don't usually complain about officiating, but the calls were pretty bad yesterday favoring Duke.
