He has to develop a more consistent outside shot and he absolute has to be able to finish with his left hand. He does that and he's certainly a serious nba prospect. I'm hoping he develops those skills this off-season, even if it means we lose him a year early.
I was so disappointed he didn't drive further or throw the oop to Hardaway but after calming down I think that was the move. He's been the leader and that was the shot. Hope he sticks around a while! The future looks bright.
I think he did the right thing. Duke was allowed a lot of contact all day right at the hoop, so I don't think he could count on getting the call even if they did hack him. The lack of a timeout also hurt there.

Congrats on a great season D Mo. I can't ever remember seeing a player make such a huge jump from one year to the next. I'm sure you'll lead this team even further next year
I also don't think it should be missed how much he's improved over the season. He couldn't even go to his left at the beginning of the season.

But it doesn't matter. He can't be stopped even when the defense knows where he is going.
I was afraid we would be hearing about how Morris should have dished it off to Douglas or Novack at the 3-point line. Morris is the leader and best player of this team. He got a good look and if anyone deserves to take the last second shot it's him. Hats off to this team for one hell of a season. Can't wait for next season.
Well, Novak is pretty clearly the leader. But otherwise yes.

As my wife came running to the living room because I was screaming in agony, I explained to her that I felt bad for Morris because he makes that shot 99 times out of 100.

At the top of the key, it wasn't clear that Stu Douglass or Zach Novak were going to come open behind the arc. And so D-Mo found a good shot for himself. It just didn't happen to fall.
Agreed. When it was happening live it looked like he forced up a rushed shot and I felt like he shoulda kicked it but after watching the replay he got through the defenders and got above the last guy for a clean look. Absolutely made the right play and it just didn't go.
The only thing I was thinking at the time was: they had a shot to put the number one team away- even if D-Mo hits that shot Michigan's still gotta win in overtime which would be tough- Duke's a great team. I almost think- taking that one shot to put them away for good- going for it all because they had the chance- like when the underdog goes for 2 in football rather than the extra point for the tie because they know they probly can't outlast them in overtime.
He totally made the right read the way the play developed but Duke was scrambling and they could've had a clean shot for the win. I understand just not losing is the goal no matter what but I'd take 1 open shot to beat the #1 team any day of the week in any circumstance.
I was watching THJ come wide open on Darius's left side. Morris took a good shot and did a hell of a job getting himself into position to take that shot at the end. If they maybe had another 2-3 seconds on the clock, I know he would have been looking to drive and dish. Anyway, watch that play again and focus on THJ.
Great game and an amazing season by Morris. I expect him to lead this team next year even farther. That was the shot he needed to take, and it nearly went in. Right play, right time, right player. Come back even stronger next year.
Morris with a better jump shot and better ability to go left next year and he'll be unstoppable
at the hoop (he can drive and get there almost at will), and he'll be unstoppable even if the going left thing isn't resolved

I also think it's interesting to note that, other than games played against osu, which in my opinion is clearly the best team in basketball, this team did not lose a game by more than 2 points after January 22, when D Mo called the player's meeting after the Minn loss. This kid is an absolute stud and I think I speak for all Michigan fans when I say we want him taking that shot 100% of the time
even the osu losses went down to the wire. it's just funny to me that all of the so called bracket "experts" didn't realize this fact you point out, and gave UM little or no credit, when in fact, UM was playing as well as anyone in the country down the stretch. the games we lost could have gone either way.
That's Morris's bread-and-butter. I want him taking the last shot every time.
This will fuel the fire in him throughout the offseason and next season as well.
Duke STILL sucks. I'd love to see ohio state (yeah, even them) crush them. Singler, Plumlee, anyone can't hang with Sullinger.
I could not disagree with yo umore. osu beat duke, hell no, if anything I hope duke wins it all just so we can say the best team beat us. I hate duke but my hatred for osu is 1000x more than my hatred for duke.

Both Stu and Zack were open after he left his feet. Should have kicked it out for an open 3. Screw O.T.
because Duke doesn't close fast on shooters right? Not to be a dick, but gimme a fucking break. That was the best look they were going to get unless you like contested 22 footers (yes, even after a timeout). Don't put it on that last shot selection. That was called letting nature take its course, and that is what both JB and DMo should have done. It went 1/8 of an inch to far, that was the only difference. Come on man.
His jumpshot was way easier than a three point shot, especially one that Stu is shooting (no offense Studawg.) He just put a tad too much on it. Definitely the right decision.
It's not that Morris' shot was a bad one, but your best case scenario is overtime, which realistically against a senior-led Duke team we likely have less than 50% chance of winning. I just felt the way we were shooting it all day that a 3 was the shot you had to take in that situation.
And Novak would have had a WIDE open 3. Singler had sunk down all the eay into the lane (rewatched it on DVR in slo-mo) and no one would have recovered fast enough to make it a contested 3. Because Novak was was the guy, I want him taking a 3 for the win. If the option was Douglas (because of his struggles lately) I would not want him taking it.
In order:
1) Novak 3
2) Morris runner
3) Douglas 3
Regardless, this is even only a debate because of how well all those guys played today. It hurts more because we were in it, but worth it to have chance. The team exceeded expectations today.
i agree i would have rather had an open 3 pt attempt, but i was happy we had that quality of a shot attempt by morris. remember, the #1 important thing is getting a shot off. and it was a quality look at that. if he passes, it could be deflected or the D could attack the shooter.
all this said, i was surprised vogrich wasn't in there the last two possessions. i trust him more than anyone in taking a three, even in limited playing time.
I want Hardaway taking that shot, if we were going to take it. If not him, Novak.
